        Systematic study of the genus Compsilura Bouché in Southeast and East Asia with morphological and molecular data (Diptera, Tachinidae)

        Compsilura concinnata (Meigen) is one of the most famous, most polyphagous and most widely distributed tachinid flies (Diptera, Tachinidae) in the world. This species is well known as a biocontrol agent of some injurious pests of cultural and wild plants and has been introduced from Europe to the United States to control mainly the gypsy moth. Recently we found three new species very closely resembling C. concinnata from Southeast and East Asia: C. lobata sp. nov. (Japan and Thailand), C. malayana sp. nov. (Malaysia) and C. pauciseta sp. nov. (Japan and Taiwan). Additionally, C. samoaensis Malloch is treated as a junior synonym of C. concinnata based on the examination of the type specimen. The genetic differences in the mitochondrial COI gene data are examined to assess the accuracy of species delimitation of Compsilura. The male postabdominal characters of these species are illustrated. The piercing female postabdomen of C. concinnata is illustrated and compared to those of other members belonging to the Blondelia group including Blondelia Robineau-Desvoidy, Celatoria Coquillett, Eucelatoria Townsend and Vibrissina Rondani.

        Changes in Psoas Major and Quadriceps Cross Sectional Area in Elderly People after 12 Weeks of Exercise

        본 연구는 남녀 노인을 대상으로 12주간의 트레이닝을 실시한 후, 대요근과 대퇴부 근육의 근 횡단면적의 변화를 검토하였다. 연구 대상자는 65세에서 80세까지의 노인 58명(남성 30명, 여성 28명)이었으며, 대조군 19명과 운동군 39명으로 나누어 실시하였다. 측정항목은 신장, 체중, 체질량, 대요근과 대퇴부의 근 횡단면적을 측정하였다. 근육의 평가는 자기공명영상법(MRI)을 사용하여 실험 전, 후 실시하였다. 운동군은 대요근과 대퇴부 근육을 증가시키기 위하여 특별히 고안된 기계를 사용하여 평균 주 2일, 12주 동안 23번의 트레이닝을 실시하였다. 대요근의 측정부위는 L4와 L5의 중간부위를 분석하고, 대퇴부는 대퇴골과 무릎까지 길이를 나누어 50%부위에서 분석하였다. 트레이닝 후, 운동군의 대요근 근횡단면적은 9.4% 증가하였다(남성 11.5%, 여성 8.4%). 그러나 대퇴부 근 횡단면적은 남녀 모두 운동 후 증가경향은 나타나지 않았다. 또한 같은 기간 대조군의 근 횡단면적에서도 유의한 변화는 나타나지 않았다. 대요근은 자세 유지와 허리, 골반 및 대퇴부의 연결에 중요한 역할을 담당하기 때문에, 특히 노인의 이동활동에 중요하다고 사료된다. 본 연구에서는 새로이 개발된 트레이닝 기계를 사용하여 단기간 트레이닝 후, 대요근 근 횡단면적의 증가를 확인하였으며, 이것은 노인들의 근력 및 이동능력의 향상 가능성이 시사되었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether 12-weeks of movement training would increase the psoas major cross-sectional area (CSA) in senior men and women. Fifty eight men and women aged 65 to 80 years old (69.6±3.7, 30 male, 28 female) were divided into a control (n=19) and exercise group (n=39). Subjects were assessed before and after the training program for stature, body mass, and magnetic resonance imaging of the psoas major and the quadriceps muscle. The experimental group performed exercises using machines designed to improve the movement of the hip at a frequency of twice every week, with a total of 23 trainings in 12-weeks. Magnetic resonance images of both thighs and the abdomen and psoas major were obtained, aimed at 50% of the length of the greater trochanter and the lower edge of the femur and between the fourth (L4) and fifth (L5) lumbars. A 9.4% increase in the psoas major CSA in the training group was observed. In the male and female breakdown, a 11.5% and 8.4% change was observed in males and females, respectively. In the quadriceps, there was no significant statistical improvement in either males or females. Furthermore, in the control group, there was no significant change seen in either the psoas major or the quadriceps. As a result of conducting training that enables upkeep of posture and smooth linkage of the lumbar spine, the pelvis and thighbone, the psoas major CSA of older adults were improved in a short period of time. For this reason, the possibility of improving the psoas CSA, which decreases remarkably with increased age, by improving the linkage of the body trunk is also suggested.

        Expression of Hyaluronidase-4 in a Rat Spinal Cord Hemisection Model

        Study Design: Examination of hyaluronidase-4 (Hyal-4) expression in a rat spinal cord hemisection model. Purpose: To determine the status of Hyal-4 expression after hemisection of the spinal cord, and the relationship between its expression and that of chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs). Overview of Literature: CSPGs are expressed at the site of spinal cord injury and inhibit axon regeneration. Administration of exogenous chrondroitinase ABC (ChABC), derived from bacteria, digested CSPGs and promoted axonal regrowth. Using a rat hemisection model, we have demonstrated peak CSPGs levels at by 3 weeks after injury but then decreased spontaneously. Could there be an endogenous enzyme similar to ChABC in the spinal cord? It has been suggested that Hyal-4 is involved in CSPG degradation. Methods: A rat hemisection model was prepared and spinal cord frozen sections were prepared at 4 days and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks post-cordotomy and stained for CSPGs and Hyal-4 and subjected to Western blotting. Results: CSPGs appeared at the injury site at 4 days after hemisection, reached a peak after 3 weeks, and then decreased. Hyal-4 was observed around the injury site from 4 days after cordotomy and increased until after 5–6 weeks. Double staining showed Hyal-4 around CSPGs. Western blotting identified a band corresponding to Hyal-4 from 4 days after hemisection. Conclusions: Hyal-4 was expressed in a rat hemisection model in areas surrounding CSPGs, and as its peak was delayed compared with that of CSPGs. These results suggest the involvement of Hyal-4 in the digestion of CSPGs.

      • Synthesis of Photobase Generators and Their Use for Design of Polymeric Photosensitive System

        The use of O-carbamoyloximes as photobase generators was investigated. $\alpha$-Meth-ylbenzilydeneamino phenylcarbamate(2a) and $\alpha$-methyl benzilydeneamino cyclohexylcarbamate(2b) were prepared by the reaction of phenyl or cyclohexyl isocyanates with acetophenone oxime , respectively. Aniline, phenylhydrazine and N, N'-diphenylhydrazine were detected in thephotolysis of 2a and cyclohexylamine and cyclohexylhydrazine in the photolysis of 2b. A monomer having pendant carbamoyloxyimino groups (BGM) was prepared by the reaction fo methancryloyloxyethyl iocyanate with acetophenone oxime, and copolymerized with styrene. The BGM copolymer films turned insoluble on UV irradiation, and the degree of insolubilizationwas increased by post-baking. The photocrosslinking was thought to be due to coupling of resulting pendant aminyl radicals, and the thermal crosslinking was due to association of resulting amino and hydrazino groups by hydrogen bonding. The introduction of epoxy groups into polymer increased the degree of thermal crosslinking by post-baking.

        A new species of Admontia Brauer & Bergenstamm from Taiwan (Diptera: Tachinidae: Exoristinae: Blondeliini)

        The taxonomy of a newly recorded genus of parasitoid fly from Taiwan, Admontia quwi sp. nov. is described. Diagnostic characteristics and variations of the male post abdomen are illustrated. A key to the eight Oriental species of Admontia is provided.

        A pilot study of pain-relieving effect of Goreisan in glossodynia with dry mouth symptoms: an open-label single-group study

        Goreisan might be a medicine to cure the pain caused by thirst and dry mouth symptom of glossodynia. All registered patients were treated with Goreisan by taking 7.5 g / day (min 3) for 2 weeks. Self-filled Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and tongue perception test by nomo-filament. Furthermore, daily self-filled VAS evaluation was required patients’ home for two weeks during Goreisan administration. There was 57% of patients (8/14) showed “improved” after administration of 2 weeks Goreisan administration based on the criteria of 20% reduction of VAS compared to baseline. Self-filled VAS score was significant low (p = 0.006) at 2 weeks evaluation at second visit and remained lower level through 4 week observation periods compared to baseline value. QST significantly increased after 2 weeks administration of Goreisan (p = 0.008) and remained higher level through 4 week observation periods compared to baseline value. There was significant reduction of daily self-filled VAS patients’ home at day 3 and day 13 ~ day 14. (p < 0.05). There is a weak positive and negative correla-tion between Barometric pressure (hPa) and self-filled VAS scale (cm) in each patients. The administration of Goreisan for two weeks lead to significant reduction of pain perception based on the evaluation of Self-filled pain scale (VAS) and tongue perception test (QST). There is correlation between barometric pressure and self-filled VAS scale. This fact might indicate that Goreisan would be the alternative treatment for glossodynia patients. Goreisan would be a successful alternative treat-ment modality forglossodynia patients.Trial registration Current Controlled trials was registered with the UMIN Clinical TrialsRegistry (identifier: UMIN000035965, 02.21.2019).

        The Effect of Pressure on the Poling Condition in Lead-based Relaxor Ferroelectric Solid Solutions

        Topographic images for the domain structures of etched surfaces of PMNT ceramics were observed: ① Flattened fine domain structures with domains of about 50 nm or less in size along the poling direction due to the 180 domain reversal were seen in rhombohedral (74/26), (72/28), and (69/31) ceramics. ② Stereographical fine domain structures with projected domains of about 50 nm or less in size along some directions due to non-180˚ domain reversal, as well as 180˚ domain reversal were seen in the (67/33) ceramic near a MPB composition. Pressure-induced suppression of the electromechanical response occurred at the depoling pressure p_d = 590 MPa for PMNT (67/33) and at p_d = 400 MPa for PMNT (69/31). The poling for the PMNT (72/28) ceramic under a pressure of 600 MPa above pd was done under decreasing pressure at 10 kV/cm at room temperature. The resonance frequency fr and the antiresonance frequency fa decreased to f_r = 121.74 kHz and f_a = 124.03 kHz, the electromechanical coupling coefficient k31 decreased to 20.5%, and the maximum phase angle θ_m decreased to 12˚ compared to f_r = 131.32 kHz and f_a = 135.37 kHz, k31 = 26.8% and θ_m = 52˚ for normal poling. The topographic images of the etched surface of PMNT (72/28) poled under pressure was characterized with stereographical fine domain structures with projected domains of about 100 nm or less in size along some directions due to non-180 domain switching. A poling process using depoling pressure, as well as the well-known normal poling using depoling temperature, is applicable for ferroelectric materials.

      • Somatotopic distortion of tactile temporal interval estimation

        Tactile timing mechanism, which is essential for an accurate response to the external environment, has to com-pensate for the distortions of neural timing signals specifically, signals that comefrom distributed peripheral receptors and body parts, which move dynamically in space. Since an accurate visual timing encoding lack sprecision when two widely separated photo recept or sareused, we studied how tactile timing is encoded in relation to two distances-somatotopic rep-resentation, defined by cortical topography, and spatiotopic representation, defined in the physical world. We conducted one-second tactile-interval estimation experiments in which the spatial distances of the two stimuli were system atically manipulated in somatotopic and spatiotopic representations, and then, we compared the two. Our results showed that somatotopic nerve distance-and not real-world physical distance-plays a dominant role in tactile timing estimations.

        The paper focuses on the teleoperation system TeleTA with haptic feedback designed to realizehapticcommunication with remote human, to achieve high level of maneuverability of robot arm in unstructured environment,and to increase effectiveness of physical Human-Robot interaction. The human operator directs the robot arm to thetarget position, while manipulator sensory system provides safe physical interaction with environment. In order toachieve awareness of collision, to support operator with valuable information (stiffnessand shape of contacting object),and to realize robot-mediated haptic communication, we developedthe innovative tactile and haptic displays, namely,BraTact (for presenting the cutaneous information) and FlexTorque (for presenting the kinaethetic feedback).
