In this paper, the electronic and the optical properties of oxides for group-IV elements in an inverse Ag2O structure, including Si, Ge, and Sn, and their ternary alloys, were studied with the density function theory of first principles. The results show that they have a high-density phase and a high dielectric constant. Moreover, the lattice constants of Si0.5Ge0.5O2 and SiO2 are really close to those of Si(100) surfaces, suggesting the possibility of forming a defect-free superlattice. With changing element, the calculated results show that the lattice constants of the ternary alloys tend to be bigger while the energy gaps show a different trend. The optical properties of these compounds as functions of physical quantities, such as the density of states, the complex dielectric function, and the static dielectric constant, are given to support the potential applications of the compounds in the future.

Objective: To determine whether noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) models based on multivariable, radiomics features, and machine learning (ML) algorithms could further improve the discrimination of early hematoma expansion (HE) in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 261 patients with sICH who underwent initialNCCT within 6 hours of ictus and follow-up CT within 24 hours after initial NCCT, between April 2011 and March 2019. The clinical characteristics, imaging signs and radiomics features extracted from the initial NCCT images were used to construct models to discriminate early HE. A clinical-radiologic model was constructed using a multivariate logistic regression (LR) analysis. Radiomics models, a radiomics-radiologic model, and a combined model were constructed in the training cohort (n = 182) and independently verified in the validation cohort (n = 79). Receiver operating characteristic analysis and the area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the discriminative power. Results: The AUC of the clinical-radiologic model for discriminating early HE was 0.766. The AUCs of the radiomics model for discriminating early HE built using the LR algorithm in the training and validation cohorts were 0.926 and 0.850, respectively. The AUCs of the radiomics-radiologic model in the training and validation cohorts were 0.946 and 0.867, respectively. The AUCs of the combined model in the training and validation cohorts were 0.960 and 0.867, respectively. Conclusion: NCCT models based on multivariable, radiomics features and ML algorithm could improve the discrimination of early HE. The combined model was the best recommended model to identify sICH patients at risk of early HE.
First-principles Study on the Electronic Structures and the Optical Properties of Hg1−xCdxTe
Song-You Wang,Gang Wang,Song Wu,Zhao-Hua Geng,Liang-Yao Chen,Yu Jia 한국물리학회 2010 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.56 No.4
The electronic structures and the optical properties of the direct-band-gap infrared alloy Hg1−xCdxTe (x = 0.250, 0.375, 0.500, 0.625, 0.875, and 1.000) were obtained using the local spin density approximation (LSDA) in the density functional theory (DFT). The calculated lattice constants are in agreement with these calculated using Vergard’s law and the band structures of these alloys are similar. The three peaks of the imaginary part in the dielectric function reveal that the conduction bands lift with increasing x. The calculated static dielectric constants of these alloys were shown to behave as a parabolic function. The results for the loss functions and effective electronic densities show that few electrons take part in the interband transitions.
Theoretical Study on the Point Defects in N-Doped Anatase TiO2
Song-You Wang,Fei Pei,Song Wu,Gang Wang,Ming Xu,Liang-Yao Chen,Yu Jia 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.4
In this work, first-principles calculations for the electronic and the optical properties of titanium dioxide (TiO2) with point defects are performed by using a plane wave pseudopotential method in the framework of the density functional theory and the generalized gradient approximation. The point defects, substitutional and interstitial nitrogen, in anatase TiO2 are investigated to understand the origin of the visible-light sensitivity of nitrogen (N)-doped TiO2. The results show that bands originating from substitutional N 2p states appear above the top of the valence band. These states tend to be delocalized and to mix with the valence band as the nitrogen concentration is increased. The optical absorption in the range between 400 and 700 nm is enhanced by the substitutional N impurities. The eect of interstitial N on the electronic and the optical properties of TiO2 depends on the interaction between the nitrogen dopants and the surrounding oxygen. The bonding between N and O introduces a series of localized occupied states under and above the upper valence band, and the electron transitions from these states improve the visible-light absorption of TiO2.

Shaolin temple, as a thousand-year ancient temple in China and even in the world, has been deeply concerned by scholars at home and abroad. For the study of Shaolin temple, scholars have made many discussions, such as its "wu-culture" and "zen culture". However, the study of calligraphy resources such as inscribed board is not mature. This paper analyzes the features and causes of the calligraphy of the existing inscribed board of Shaolin temple.

Dynamic parameters of biochemistry including the POD (peroxidase) activity, contents of DNA and RNA, isozymes of POD and ES (esterase) in American send (Panax quinquefolium L.) seed are reported in the present paper. The dynamic changes of POD activity proved that the PAS (physiological afterripening stage) is a stage in which some substances are prepared for seed germination. The POD activity correlated with ER (embryo ratio) significantly DNA content changed little only within 0.0036∼0.013 mg/ml, which did not correlate with ER. RNA content changed from 0.1539 to 1.0313 mg/ml and correlated significantly with RE during all of the embryo afterripening. None of the POD isozyme band was obtained in ESGS (embryo slowly growth stage), but five bands in ERGS (embryo rapidly growth stage) and six bands in PAS. Four bands of ES isozymes were obtained in ESGS, but six bands in ERGS, particularly, the content of ES isozymes increased in PAS. All of these may provide some information for understanding the dormancy mechanisms of American song seed.

Purpose: Estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) have been used as indicators of endocrine system status since the mid-1970s in the clinical management of breast cancer. The predictive role of ER in endocrine therapy is undisputed, but the prognostic value of PR is still debated. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of ER positive breast cancer with different PR expression levels. Methods: A population cohort of 3,030 primary invasive ER positive breast cancer patients from a single cancer center underwent surgery and received adjuvant endocrine therapy from 2004 to 2010. The clinical and biological features of these patients with high PR-expressing tumors were compared with those of patients with low PR-expressing tumors. The follow-up data for disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and breast cancer specific survival (BCSS) was obtained from 2,778 patients. Cox regression analysis was used to correlate biomarkers and tumor characteristics with DFS, OS, and BCSS. Results: Tumors with low PR expression had more invasive pathological features and biological indexes than those with high PR expression. Low PR expression was an independent poor prognostic factor for DFS (p=0.014; hazard ratio [HR], 0.781; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.641–0.950), OS (p=0.002; HR, 0.699; 95% CI, 0.560–0.873), and BCSS (p=0.005; HR, 0.714; 95% CI, 0.566–0.902). Furthermore, in low PR expressing tumors, patients who received chemotherapy had better DFS (p=0.002; HR, 0.449; 95% CI, 0.268–0.751), OS (p<0.001; HR, 0.341; 95% CI, 0.192–0.606), and BCSS (p<0.001; HR, 0.292; 95% CI, 0.156–0.549) than patients who did not received chemotherapy. Conclusion: Patients with ER positive invasive breast cancer with low PR expressing tumors have a worse prognosis than those with high PR expressing tumors, and these patients can benefit from chemotherapy.
Licochalcone A, a Natural Inhibitor of c-Jun <i>N</i>-Terminal Kinase 1
Yao, Ke,Chen, Hanyong,Lee, Mee-Hyun,Li, Haitao,Ma, Weiya,Peng, Cong,Song, Nu Ry,Lee, Ki Won,Bode, Ann M.,Dong, Ziming,Dong, Zigang American Association for Cancer Research 2014 Cancer Prevention Research Vol.7 No.1
<P>The c-<I>Jun N</I>-terminal kinases (JNK) play an important role in many physiologic processes induced by numerous stress signals. Each JNK protein appears to have a distinct function in cancer, diabetes, or Parkinson's disease. Herein, we found that licochalcone A, a major phenolic constituent isolated from licorice root, suppressed JNK1 activity but had little effect on JNK2 <I>in vitro</I> activity. Although licochalcone A binds with JIP1 competitively with either JNK1 or JNK2, a computer simulation model showed that after licochalcone A binding, the ATP-binding cleft of JNK1 was distorted more substantially than that of JNK2. This could reduce the affinity of JNK1 more than JNK2 for ATP binding. Furthermore, licochalcone A inhibited JNK1-mediated, but not JNK2-mediated, c-Jun phosphorylation in both <I>ex vivo</I> and <I>in vitro</I> systems. We also observed that in colon and pancreatic cancer cell lines, JNK1 is highly expressed compared with normal cell lines. In cancer cell lines, treatment with licochalcone A or knocking down JNK1 expression suppressed colon and pancreatic cancer cell proliferation and colony formation. The inhibition resulted in G1 phase arrest and apoptosis. Moreover, an <I>in vivo</I> xenograft mouse study showed that licochalcone A treatment effectively suppressed the growth of HCT116 xenografts, without affecting the body weight of mice. These results show that licochalcone A is a selective JNK1 inhibitor. Therefore, we suggest that because of the critical role of JNK1 in colon cancer and pancreatic carcinogenesis, licochalcone A might have preventive or therapeutic potential against these devastating diseases. <I>Cancer Prev Res; 7(1); 139–49. ©2013 AACR</I>.</P>
