Kil Woo Han,Dong Soo Lee,Yeun Bae Park,Ji Hye Lee,Seung Jun Lee,Keun Jung Kim,Eun Young Kim,Hwa Young Sohn,Sea Hwan Sohn,Jae Suk Woo,Min Kyu Kim 한국동물번식학회 2012 Reproductive & Developmental Biology(Supplement) Vol.36 No.2s
True hermaphrodites are animals of equivocal sex in which both male and female gonads develop simultaneously. The frequency of true hermaphroditism is higher in pigs than in other domestic animals. Two Korean pigs were diagnosed with true hermaphroditism showing ovotestes, epididymes, penes, and uteri. Histomorphologically, the testicular tissues consisted of Sertoli cells that were devoid of spermatogenic germ cells and showed proliferation of interstitial cells. However, the uteri were of normal architecture and had well-developed uterine endometrial glands. The samples were 38, XX female karyotype without the sex-determining region Y (SRY) gene. The findings of this study could contribute to the understanding of true hermaphroditism in the Korean pig industry. * This work was supported by a grant (Code# PJ008148) from BioGreen21 Program, Rural Development Administration, Republic of Korea.

To construct transfurmed Bm5 cells, Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus(AcNPV) IE1 gene, an immediate early viral gene was firstly used in this study. AcNPV IE1 gene, which shares on 95.3% nucleotide sequence homology with Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV) IE1 gene, was isolated and cloned into pBluescript. Neomycin gene from pKO-neo was inserted under the control of the IE1 promoter to yield pAcIE1-neo. The plasmid pAcIE1-neo was transfected into Bm5 or Sf9 cells, and neomycin-resistant cells were selected in TC100 medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and 1 mg/ml G4l8 for two weeks. Individual clones were picked and each was amplified for further characterization. The genomic DNA from neomycin-resistant cells was isolated and characterized by PCR using AcNPV IEI gene-specific primers and by Southern blot analysis using neomycin gene probe. We concluded that AcNPV IE1 gene was functional in B. mori-derived Bm5 cells as well as Spodoptera fugjprrda-derived Sf9 cells to produce stably-transformed insect cells
Stress-induced domain dynamics and phase transitions in epitaxially grown VO2 nanowires
Sohn, Jung Inn,Joo, Heung Jin,Kim, Keun Soo,Yang, Hyoung Woo,Jang, A-Rang,Ahn, Docheon,Lee, Hyun Hwi,Cha, SeungNam,Kang, Dae Joon,Kim, Jong Min,Welland, Mark E IOP Pub 2012 Nanotechnology Vol.23 No.20
<P>We demonstrate that surface stresses in epitaxially grown VO2 nanowires (NWs) have a strong effect on the appearance and stability of intermediate insulating M2 phases, as well as the spatial distribution of insulating and metallic domains during structural phase transitions. During the transition from an insulating M1 phase to a metallic R phase, the coexistence of insulating M1 and M2 phases with the absence of a metallic R phase was observed at atmospheric pressure. In addition, we show that, for a VO2 NW without the presence of an epitaxial interface, surface stresses dominantly lead to spatially inhomogeneous phase transitions between insulating and metallic phases. In contrast, for a VO2 NW with the presence of an epitaxial interface, the strong epitaxial interface interaction leads to additional stresses resulting in uniformly alternating insulating and metallic domains along the NW length.</P>
Electronic band structure of Bi-intercalate layers in graphene and SiC(0001)

A potential way to tune the electronic band structure of graphene is to intercalate foreign atoms in the interface between graphene and substrate. However, such an intercalate layer covered by graphene is difficult to directly study with microscopic probes, and relatively little is known about its crystal and electronic structures. In this work, we study epitaxial graphene on SiC(0001) intercalated by bismuth atoms by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We reveal the electronic band structure of Bi-intercalate layers, from which we could identify two distinct phases, one is metallic and the other is insulating. The metallic phase composed of closely packed Bi atoms shows nearly free electron bands that are repeated to follow the period of SiC(0001)-(1 × 1). The lower coverage insulating phase shows characteristic flat bands in the period of SiC(0001)-(√3×√3)R30◦ with respect to the surface lattice constant of SiC(0001). Even though there exists such two distinct phases in the Bi intercalate layer, the doping level of graphene is found to vary rather continuously with the coverage of Bi. Based on the observed band structures and Bi 5d core-level spectra, we suggest a structural model for the metallic and insulating phases of Bi-terminated SiC(0001).
Graphene p-n junction formed on SiC(0001) by Au intercalation
Sohn Yeongsup,Shin Woo Jong,류세희,Huh Minjae,Cha Seyeong,Kim Keun Su 한국물리학회 2021 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.78 No.1
We propose a method to fabricate the chemical p-n junction in wafer-scale epitaxial graphene. In the case of Au intercalation in between graphene and SiC(0001), there exist two structurally distinct phases that result in p-type and n-type doping in the graphene layer, respectively. In the process of in situ Au deposition on our samples, we used a shadow mask to form a sharp junction of different Au coverage. The intercalation of Au atoms induced by thermal annealing leads to the abrupt p-n junction in the graphene layer, which is characterized by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. This p-n junction of graphene is abrupt in the scale comparable to the beam size of approximately 50 μm. This p-n junction of graphene is expected to be atomically abrupt, since there exist only two structurally distinct phases by self-assembly. The proposed method may be useful not only to fabricate a wafer-scale p-n junction of graphene, but also for a fundamental study on atomically abrupt graphene p-n junction.

Sohn, Young-Sik,Lee, Yu-No,Park, Chan-In,Hwang, S-Wan,Kim, Song-Mi,Baek, A-Young,Son, Min-Ky,Suh, Jung-Keun,Kim, Hyong-Ha,Lee, Keun-Woo Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.1
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are members of nuclear receptors and their activation induces regulation of fatty acid storage and glucose metabolism. Therefore, the $PPAR\gamma$ is a major target for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In order to generate pharmacophore model, 1080 known agonists database was constructed and a training set was selected. The Hypo7, selected from 10 hypotheses, contains four features: three hydrogen-bond acceptors (HBA) and one general hydrophobic (HY). This pharmacophore model was validated by using 862 test set compounds with a correlation coefficient of 0.903 between actual and estimated activity. Secondly, CatScramble method was used to verify the model. Hence, the validated Hypo7 was utilized for searching new lead compounds over 238,819 and 54,620 chemical structures in NCI and Maybridge database, respectively. Then the leads were selected by screening based on the pharmacophore model, predictive activity, and Lipinski's rules. Candidates were obtained and subsequently the binding affinities to $PPAR\gamma$ were investigated by the molecular docking simulations. Finally the best two compounds were presented and would be useful to treat type 2 diabetes.
폐의 림프관평활근종증(lymphangioleiomyomatosis)을 동반한 임산부의 제왕절개술을 위한 경막외 마취경험 1 예
손주태,이헌근,정영균,우민규 대한마취과학회 1996 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.30 No.6
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis result from the proliferation of immature smooth muscle cells in the peribronchial, perivascular and perilymphatic areas of the lung. The disease primarily affects women of childbearing age, which has dyspnea, recurrent episodes of pneumothorax, pulmonary edema, chylous effusion and hemoptysis as symptoms. Most patients die from respiratory failure within 10 years after diagnosis. Definite diagnosis depends on histologic findings. We report our experience of anesthetic management for a pregnant woman with lymphangioleiomyomatosis which was confirmed with biopsy of inguinal lymph nodes.
