Effect of Sauropus Androgynus (Katuk) Extract on Egg Production and Lipid Metabolism in Layers

The present study was conducted to evaluate effect of Sauropus androgynus extract (SAE) on egg production and lipid metabolism in layer chickens. Forty-eight layers aged 42 weeks (strain RIR) were distributed to 6 treatment groups as follows. One group was fed diet without SAE as the control ($P_0$), and other five groups were fed diet plus hot water-extracted SAE at level of 9 g/kg diet ($W_9$), diet plus ethanol extracted SAE at level of 0.9 g/kg diet ($E_{0.9}$), diet plus ethanol extracted SAE at level of 1.8 g/kg ($E_{1.8}$), diet plus methanol extracted SAE at level of 0.9 g/kg ($M_{0.9}$), and diet plus methanol extracted SAE at level of 1.8 g/kg ($M_{1.8}$). It was shown that SAE inclusion significantly increased egg production (p<0.05). Methanol-extracted SAE groups had lower egg production than ethanol-extracted SAE group (p<0.05). SAE supplemented groups had better feed conversion efficiency than the unsupplemented group (p<0.05). It was shown that ethanol extracted SAE resulted in the lowest feed conversion efficiency among the SAE supplemented groups (p<0.05). SAE supplementation significantly reduced abdominal fat, gizzard surrounded fat, liver fat (p<0.05), serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, VLDL+LDL-c (p<0.01), atherogenic index (p<0.05), egg cholesterol and triglyceride (p<0.05), but it had no effect on mesenteric fat, sartorial fat and fatty liver score. In conclusion, SAE supplementation could increase egg production but reduced egg cholesterol.
가상 심장 시뮬레이션에서 CPU와 GPU 병렬처리의 계산 성능 비교

Cardiac electrophysiology studies often use simulation to predict how cardiac will behave under various conditions. To observe the cardiac tissue movement, it needs to use the high--resolution heart mesh with a sophisticated and large number of nodes. The higher resolution mesh is, the more computation time is needed. To improve computation speed and performance, parallel processing using multi-core processes and network computing resources is performed. In this study, we compared the computational speeds of CPU parallelization and GPU parallelization in virtual heart simulation for efficiently calculating a series of ordinary differential equations (ODE) and partial differential equations (PDE) and determined the optimal CPU and GPU parallelization architecture. We used 2D tissue model and 3D ventricular model to compared the computation performance. Then, we measured the time required to the calculation of ODEs and PDEs, respectively. In conclusion, for the most efficient computation, using GPU parallelization rather than CPU parallelization can improve performance by 4.3 times and 2.3 times in calculations of ODEs and PDE, respectively. In CPU parallelization, it is best to use the number of processors just before the communication cost between each processor is incurred.

The objective of this study is to examine the effect of family ownership and family CEO on the dividend policy of family firms by using the demographic characteristics of the CEO as a moderator. Dividend policy is a decision taken by the firm in determining whether the profits earned by the firm will be distributed to shareholders in the form of dividends or will be reinvested in the company as retained earnings for future internal resources. Using samples from non-financial family firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2013–2017, 93 firms were selected based on adequate data. We also used logit regressions to provide robustness. The results show that family ownership and family CEO have a positive effect on the dividend payout ratio. This finding supports the family income hypothesis. Among CEO demographic characters, CEO age significantly strengthens the positive effect of family CEO on dividend payout ratio. While CEO tenure does not significantly strengthen the positive effect of family CEOs on dividend payout ratios. Meanwhile, leverage, ROA, and firm size significantly affect the dividend payout ratio, but firm age does not significantly affect the dividend payout ratio.
