Magnetic Phase Transitions in Zn1−xMnxO

Thermal diffusivity measurements have been used to study the magnetic phase transitions in ZnOdoped with Mn. The temperature dependencies of the thermal diffusivity in the wide temperaturerange from 70 to 300 K reveal an inverted-lambda-shaped peak at a temperature of 75 K forZn0.95Mn0.05O doped with nitrogen and additional peaks at 117 K and 122 K for the nitrogen-dopedand the undoped Zn0.95Mn0.05O samples, respectively. The lambda-shaped peak demonstrates theexistence of a second order phase transition in these samples. The thermal diffusivity peak at 75 Kwas attributed to a ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition in the Zn0.95Mn0.05O doped withnitrogen, and the peaks at 117 K and 122 K were attributed to an antiferromagnetic-paramagneticphase transition in the MnO nanoclusters.

Abstract - Tribofilms formed on won surface protect the DLC coating surface and decrease the fiction coefficient. However it is very difficult to evaluate their micromechanical properties due to their small thickness, inhomogeneity and discontinuity. The phase contrast images in tapping mode atomic farce microscopy allow an estimation of inhomogeneity in micromechanical properties of the sample surface. The purpose of this investigation is to demonstrate how the phase contrast images contribute to the characterization of thin tribofilms.
The distinct behavior of specific heat of diluted magnetic semiconductor (Ga,Mn)As quantum wells

The phase transition and specific heat of carrier-induced diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) (Ga,Mn)As quantum well are investigated theoretically. With different concentration of magnetic ion and hole gas, there are three types of phase transitions, first-order, second-order and mixed first and second order. The specific heat of these three types of phase transitions are different, especially for the mixed-order phase transition, which shows two-step transition. The results indicate that the specific heat of DMS is a good tool to study the phase transition and critical phenomena of those quantum wells.
Tribological Behavior of Mono- and Multilayer Coverings on Silicon Surface

Langmuir-Blodgett mono- and multilayer films from 2,4-heneicosanedione have been examined as lubrication coatings in the process of wear. Tribological properties of the films have been studied by atomic force microscopy and microtribometer. It has been observed that the wear resistance of silicon surface coated with OTS/LB multilayer system increased by several orders of magnitude compared to uncoated surfaces at low normal load. The results obtained suggest that the system constructed on silicon surface reduces surface energy, friction coefficient and increases life of substrate due to a possibility of LB film self-repairing during frictional contact.
