• On Location Security Solutions in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

        ( Rasheed Hussain ),( Junggab Son ),( Heekuck Oh ) 한국정보처리학회 2012 한국정보처리학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.19 No.2

Location information is considered to be of prime importance in Vehicular Ad Hoc NETworks (VANETs) because important decisions are made based on accurate and sound location information. Vehicles exchange their whereabouts in the form of scheduled beacon messages with their neighbors. These messages contain location, speed, time, and lane information etc. In this paper we aim at the location security in VANET and emphasize on the confidentiality and integrity of location information in case of Nonline-of-Sight (NLoS). For location confidentiality we propose a geolock-based mechanism whereas for location integrity we leverage cooperation among neighbors. In case of NLoS, the verifier vehicle asks its one-hop neighbors in an efficient way to verify the claimed location of the node on his behalf. On the basis of trust values and weightage assigned to neighbors, it is decided whether the verification is sound.

Attenuation of artifacts in EEG signals measured inside an MRI scanner using constrained independent component analysis

        Rasheed, Tahir,Lee, Young-Koo,Lee, Soo Yeol,Kim, Tae-Seong IOP Pub 2009 PHYSIOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT Vol.30 No.4

Integration of electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic imaging (fMRI) resonance will allow analysis of the brain activities at superior temporal and spatial resolution. However simultaneous acquisition of EEG and fMRI is hindered by the enhancement of artifacts in EEG, the most prominent of which are ballistocardiogram (BCG) and electro-oculogram (EOG) artifacts. The situation gets even worse if the evoked potentials are measured inside MRI for their minute responses in comparison to the spontaneous brain responses. In this study, we propose a new method of attenuating these artifacts from the spontaneous and evoked EEG data acquired inside an MRI scanner using constrained independent component analysis with a priori information about the artifacts as constraints. With the proposed techniques of reference function generation for the BCG and EOG artifacts as constraints, our new approach performs significantly better than the averaged artifact subtraction (AAS) method. The proposed method could be an alternative to the conventional ICA method for artifact attenuation, with some advantages. As a performance measure we have achieved much improved normalized power spectrum ratios (INPS) for continuous EEG and correlation coefficient (cc) values with outside MRI visual evoked potentials for visual evoked EEG, as compared to those obtained with the AAS method. The results show that our new approach is more effective than the conventional methods, almost fully automatic, and no extra ECG signal measurements are involved.

Constrained Spatiotemporal Independent Component Analysis and Its Application for fMRI Data Analysis

        Rasheed, Tahir,Lee, Young-Koo,Lee, Sung-Young,Kim, Tae-Seong The Korean Society of Medical and Biological Engin 2009 의공학회지 Vol.30 No.5

In general, Independent component analysis (ICA) is a statistical blind source separation technique, used either in spatial or temporal domain. The spatial or temporal ICAs are designed to extract maximally independent sources in respective domains. The underlying sources for spatiotemporal data (sequence of images) can not always be guaranteed to be independent, therefore spatial ICA extracts the maximally independent spatial sources, deteriorating the temporal sources and vice versa. For such data types, spatiotemporal ICA tries to create a balance by simultaneous optimization in both the domains. However, the spatiotemporal ICA suffers the problem of source ambiguity. Recently, constrained ICA (c-ICA) has been proposed which incorporates a priori information to extract the desired source. In this study, we have extended the c-ICA for better analysis of spatiotemporal data. The proposed algorithm, i.e., constrained spatiotemporal ICA (constrained st-ICA), tries to find the desired independent sources in spatial and temporal domains with no source ambiguity. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested against the conventional spatial and temporal ICAs using simulated data. Furthermore, its performance for the real spatiotemporal data, functional magnetic resonance images (fMRI), is compared with the SPM (conventional fMRI data analysis tool). The functional maps obtained with the proposed algorithm reveal more activity as compared to SPM.

      • Slide Session : OS-END-17 ; Endocrinology : Metabolic Syndrome Among Diabetic and Hypertensive Patients in Hadhramout

        ( Rasheed Mohammed Bamekhlah ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of cardiovascular risk factors: diabetes, hyperlipidemia and high blood pressure. People with MetS are twice as likely to die from and three times as likely to have a heart attack or stroke compared with people without. Our objective was to observe the frequency of MetS in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and with hypertension. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted at lbnseena Hospital, Mukalla, Hadhramout, Republic of Yemen from 04/2012 to 02/2013. Two hundreds of type 2 DM and 200 hypertensive cases were included; MetS was estimated according to International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria. Results: diabetic patients, 92 were males and 108 females, hypertensive patients 109 were males and 91 females. In diabetics, 130 (65%) had MetS (58.2±10.4years), 57 were males and 73 females. In hypertensive cases, 109 (54.5%) had MetS (57.9±9.2 years), 56 were males and 57 females. Waist circumference was 98.7±6.7 cm in diabetics and 98.7±6.7 cm in hypertensive. In MetS Triglycerides was 152±13.4mg/ dl in diabetics and 154±13.2mg/dl in hypertensive and both were significantly higher in MetS patients. Serum HDL-C was significantly lower in MetS cases, 40.3±8.5mg/ dl in diabetics and 40.9±8.4mg/dl in hypertensive. Increased waist circumference was present in all MetS cases, hypertension in 81.5% in diabetics and DM in 92.7% of hypertensive. Low HDL-C in 62.3% of diabetics and 66.1% of hypertensive, high triglycerides in 57.7% of diabetics and 54.1% of hypertensive. 24.6% of diabetics and 11% of hypertensive were having three criteria, 48.5% of diabetics and 58.7 of hypertensive with four, and 26.9% of diabetics and 30.3% of hypertensive with all criteria.. Conclusions: Metabolic syndrome is common among type 2 diabetic and hypertensive patients in our province; Hadhramout. Most patients were having more than three IDF criteria.

      • The Exchange-Correlation Field Effect over the Magnetoacoustic-Gravitational Instability in Plasmas

        Rasheed, A.,Jamil, M.,Jung, Young-Dae,Sahar, A.,Asif, M. De Gruyter 2017 Zeitschrift für Naturforschung. A, A journal Vol.72 No.10

Jeans instability with magnetosonic perturbations is discussed in quantum dusty magnetoplasmas. The quantum and smaller thermal effects are associated only with electrons. The quantum characteristics include exchange-correlation potential, recoil effect, and Fermi degenerate pressure. The multifluid model of plasmas is used for the analytical study of this problem. The significant contribution of electron exchange is noticed on the threshold value of wave vector and Jeans instability. The presence of electron exchange and correlation effects reduce the time to stabilise the phenomenon of self-gravitational collapse of massive species. The results of Jeans instability by magnetosonic perturbations at quantum scale help to disclose the details of the self-gravitating dusty magnetoplasma systems.

Enhancing Optical Properties of Modified PVC and Cr2O3 Nanocomposite

        Rasheed N. Abed,Mohammed Kadhom,D. S. Ahmed,A. Hadawey,Emad Yousif 한국전기전자재료학회 2021 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.22 No.3

In this work, a novel grafting of chromium (III) oxide Cr 2 O 3 nanoparticles (NPs) within polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was conducted to obtain high conductivity and stability toward the light absorption for the polymer. The optical properties of pure and doped PVC thin films were investigated with different content to embed chromium (III) oxide. The measurements of spectrophotometer reflectance in the wavelengths range of 250–1300 nm and UV–Visible in the wavelengths range of 200–800 nm were reported. Adding 0.05 g of Cr 2 O 3 NPs leaded to improve all the optical properties of PVC–Cr 2 O 3 fi lms. The optical features calculations were determined, namely absorbance, refl ectance, transmittance, extinction coefficient, refractive index, optical density, real and imaginary of dielectric constant, direct and indirect energy gaps, Urbach energy, and optical conductivity. Two Schiff bases were synthesized and used for doping, identified as a, and b. The energy gaps of modifi ed PVC fi lms were calculated and found to decrease from 5.5 eV of pure PVC to 2.4 and 3.2 eV for a and b samples, respectively, in the direct allowed transition. In the indirect allowed transition, lower values were obtained, where the pure PVC gab was 4.2 eV and decreased to 1.75 and 3.3 eV for a and b, respectively. The Urbach band tail was also computed for thin films and concluded in a table. For our best knowledge, doping Cr 2 O 3 NPs in the PVC is firstly reported here, which aimed to reinforced the polymer and reduced its energy gap. The results detected that the photostability of doped PVC is better than the pure PVC.

Allelic Variation and Composition of HMW-GS in Advanced Lines Derived from D-genome Synthetic Hexaploid / Bread Wheat ($Triticum$ $aestivum$ L.)

        Rasheed, Awais,Mahmood, Tariq,Kazi, Alvina Gul,Ghafoor, Abdul,Mujeeb-Kazi, Abdul 한국작물학회 2012 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.15 No.1

The objective of this study was to identify allelic variations at $Glu-1$ loci of wheat ($Triticum$ $aestivum$ L.) advanced lines derived from hybridization of bread wheat and synthetic hexaploid wheats (2n = 6x = 42; AABBDD). Locally adapted wheat genotypes were crossed with synthetic hexaploid wheats. From the 134 different cross combinations made, 202 $F_8$ advanced lines were selected and their HMW-GS composition was studied using SDS-PAGE. In total, 24 allelic variants and 68 HMW-GS combinations were observed at $Glu-A1$, $Glu-B1$, and $Glu-D1$ loci. In bread wheat, the $Glu-D1$ locus is usually characterized by subunits 1Dx2+1Dy12 and 1Dx5+1Dy10 with the latter having a stronger effect on bread-making quality. The subunit 1Dx5+1Dy10 was predominantly observed in these advanced lines. The inferior subunit 1Dx2+1Dy12, predominant in adapted wheat germplasm showed a comparative low frequency in the derived advanced breeding lines. Its successful replacement is due to the other better allelic variants at the $Glu-D1$ locus inherited in these synthetic hexaploid wheats from $Aegilops$ $tauschii$ (2n = 2x = 14; DD).
