A parallel multiscale numerical framework based on the FE2 method is established to perform the non-linear failure analysis of three-dimension (3D) composite materials with complicated architectures. Parallelization of the nested solution process is presented, as well as the strategy used to implement the FE2 method alongside the finite element package ABAQUS. The emphasis is put on the detailed numerical implementation in both scales, using a set of python scripts and UMAT subroutines to allow the service of commercial finite element packages ABAQUS instead of the in-house code. The novel framework can be scalable to the distributed clusters and carries out the progressive damage analysis of 3D braided composite materials under uniaxial tensile loading and three-point bending loading, respectively. As a validation, the results obtained have been compared with experimental data from the literature. The parallel performances of numerical examples in runtime and acceleration effect are addressed to demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed framework.

The variational asymptotic homogenization (VAM) theory is extended to access freely to commercial finite element (FE) software to deal with periodic plate structures. In this work, the finite element format for periodic plate structures based on the variational asymptotic homogenization is developed, ensuring the commercial finite element software can be utilized to obtain the effective plate stiffness. A standard numerical framework and an integration algorithm are proposed for unifying the dimensional reduction analysis and the homogenization analysis in a formalized manner. As for model validation, the periodic plates composed of unit cells with three-dimension (3D) heterogeneous geometry are simulated by various elements and modeling techniques using the commercial FE software rather than programming in-house code. Compared to the results provided in the existing literature, the proposed approach shows excellent performance in terms of computational efficiency and time without compromising the VAM accuracy. It is preferable to enhance the application of the variational asymptotic homogenization theory for the more sophisticated heterogeneous plate structures.
REGULARITY RELATIVE TO A HEREDITARY TORSION THEORY FOR MODULES OVER A COMMUTATIVE RING
Qiao, Lei,Zuo, Kai Korean Mathematical Society 2022 대한수학회지 Vol.59 No.4
In this paper, we introduce and study regular rings relative to the hereditary torsion theory w (a special case of a well-centered torsion theory over a commutative ring), called w-regular rings. We focus mainly on the w-regularity for w-coherent rings and w-Noetherian rings. In particular, it is shown that the w-coherent w-regular domains are exactly the Prüfer v-multiplication domains and that an integral domain is w-Noetherian and w-regular if and only if it is a Krull domain. We also prove the w-analogue of the global version of the Serre-Auslander-Buchsbaum Theorem. Among other things, we show that every w-Noetherian w-regular ring is the direct sum of a finite number of Krull domains. Finally, we obtain that the global weak w-projective dimension of a w-Noetherian ring is 0, 1, or ∞.

Cystatin, a cysteine protease inhibitor found in many parasites, plays important roles in immune evasion. This study analyzed the molecular characteristics of a cystatin from Fasciola hepatica (FhCystatin) and expressed recombinant FhCystatin (rFhcystatin) to investigate the immune modulatory effects on lipopolysaccharide-induced proliferation, migration, cytokine secretion, nitric oxide (NO) production, and apoptosis in mouse macrophages. The FhCystatin gene encoded 116 amino acids and contained a conserved cystatin-like domain. rFhCystatin significantly inhibited the activity of cathepsin B. rFhCystatin bound to the surface of mouse RAW264.7 cells, significantly inhibited cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis. Moreover, rFhCystatin inhibited the expression of cellular nitric oxide, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α, and promoted the expression of transforming growth factor-β and interleukin-10. These results showed that FhCystatin played an important role in regulating the activity of mouse macrophages. Our findings provide new insights into mechanisms underlying the immune evasion and contribute to the exploration of potential targets for the development of new drug to control F. hepatica infection.

In this work, an ultrathin 2D/2D g-C3N4/Ti3C2 heterojunction was synthesized by direct calcination of a mixture of urea and multilayer Ti3C2 for photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline. Among them, urea is the precursor for the generation of g-C3N4 and generates gas to peel the multilayer Ti3C2 into fewer layers while reacting, solving the problem of low yield for the preparation of fewer layers of Ti3C2. The experimental results of tetracycline degradation under visible light showed that pure g-C3N4 (UCN) exhibited weak photoactivity; however, its photocatalytic performance was enhanced when Ti3C2 was coupled with g-C3N4. The best sample (5TC) could degrade 90.1% of tetracycline within 30 min. After four cycles of stability test, the photocatalytic performance did not change significantly, indicating that the prepared 2D/2D g-C3N4/Ti3C2 heterojunction possesses strong photocatalytic performance along with good stability.
Free-Form Surface Flattening Based on Rigid Registration and Energy Optimization
Peng Wei,Qiao Kai,Bao Yidong,Zhang Chaoyang,Ji Weixi 한국정밀공학회 2022 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.23 No.8
Fundamental technology of Computer Aided Design, free-form surface flattening is important for both practical and scientific point of view in mechanical engineering. This paper proposed a flattening algorithm by using a local rigid registration and a global energy optimization. Firstly, each 3D element is aligned to the plane by minimizing the distance between the original 3D element and its corresponding planar element. Then, a global optimization operator is used to stitch and optimize these best-aligned local elements by iteratively minimizing a quadratic energy function composed of linear elastic energy, which makes the internal force of the nodes reach the equilibrium state. The experimental results show that this method is stable and reliable, and can obtain good surface flattening effect under free boundary conditions.

Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is an important factor in regulation of cardiovascular tone in humans and mammals, but the biological function of ET-1 in the avian vascular system has not been determined. The purpose of this study was to characterize the role of endogenous ET-1 in the vascular system of poultry by investigating the effect of endothelin A receptor ($ET_AR$) antagonist BQ123 on the femoral artery pressure (FAP) and the pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) in broiler chickens. First, we found that plasma and lung homogenate ET-1 levels were both increased with age over the seven weeks life cyccle of broiler chickens. Second, 60 min after intravenous injection, BQ123 ($0.4{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ and $2.0{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$, respectively) induced a significant reduction in FAP and PAP (p<0.05). Third, chronic infusion of BQ123 ($2.0{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ each time, two times a day) into abdominal cavities led to significant decrease in systolic pressure of the femoral (p<0.05) and pulmonary arteries (p<0.01) in broiler chickens at 7 and 14 days after treatment. Taken together, the $ET_AR$ antagonist BQ123 lead to a significant reduction of FAP and PAP, which suggests that endogenous ET-1 may be involved in the maintenance and regulation of systemic and pulmonary pressure in broiler chickens.

The members of the microRNA (miRNA) family exert essential roles in modulating plant growth and development as well as responses to diverse stresses, through negatively regulating their target genes at posttranscriptional or translational levels. In this study, we characterized taemiR9674a, a miRNA member in T. aestivum, in mediating plant responses to drought and salt stresses. Seven genes in total were predicted to act as the targets of tae-miR9674a via modulation of transcript cleavage. The transcripts of tae-miR9674a in roots and leaves were response to both stresses of drought and salt, displaying to be gradually upregulated following the progression of a 27-h regime of above stress treatments. The transgenic tobacco lines of tae-miR9674a exhibited modified growth traits under drought and salt treatments. Of these, the line with miRNA overexpression (i.e., Sen 1) improved drastically on plant biomass, leaf area, and root length, whereas that with its knockdown expression (Anti 1) significantly alleviated on above growth traits compared with wild type. The modified stress responses of tae-miR9674a were shown to be closely associated with the role of miRNA in regulating a suite of physiological parameters, of which Sen 1 displayed improved osmotic stress defensive-related traits, such as fastened stomata closing rate, increased leaf water retention capacity, enhanced osmolytes contents, and elevated antioxidant enzyme (AE) activities. The expression of NtP5CS1 involving proline biosynthesis and NtFeSOD, NtCAT1 and NtPOD4, the AE genes involved in modulating ROS homeostasis, was upregulated in Sen 1 upon drought and salt stresses, suggesting their involvement in miRNA-mediated plant drought and salt responses. Transcriptome analysis indicated that tae-miR9674a leads to modified expression of quantities of genes that functionally associate with GO terms “biological process”, “cellular component”, and “molecular function”, which are overrepresented by the biochemical pathways of phytohormones (i.e., ethylene and jasmonic acid), salt response, salt/drought osmotic stress response through abscisic acid-dependent pathway and reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis. Our investigation suggested that tae-miR9674a is an essential mediator in plant osmotic stress tolerance by positively regulating osmotic stress acclimation, cellular ROS homeostasis, and related defensive processes.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether whole-liver radiotherapy plus a tumor-boost dose with concurrent chemotherapy is beneficial for colorectal cancer patients with massive and multiple liver metastases. From January 2007 to December 2012, 19 patients who exhibited massive (with a longest diameter > 5 cm) and invasive liver metastases and multiple metastases were treated with radiotherapy and concurrent chemotherapy. The total radiation dose was 53.4 Gy (range 38.8 Gy-66.3 Gy). All of the patients received a continuous intravenous dose of 5 fluorouracil (5-FU) 225 mg/m2 concurrently with radiation. The median survival time was 19 months. The 1- and 2- year overall survival rates were 78.3% and 14.3%, respectively. Of all of the patients who presented with abdominal pain, 100% experienced a decrease in pain. Decreases in the rates of ascites and jaundice were confirmed by ultrasound and bilirubin levels. No cases of Grade 4 or 5 acute or late toxicity were recorded. There were only two cases of Grade 3 toxicity (elevated bilirubin). These data provide evidence that whole-liver radiotherapy plus a tumor-boost dose with concurrent chemotherapy is beneficial for colorectal cancer patients with massive and multiple liver metastases.
