The Information Distribution Role of Facebook in Universities

Thi Nguyet Dung NGUYEN,Thi Thu Huong NGUYEN,Thi Phuong Anh NGUYEN,Thi Thu Huong NGUYEN,Thi Phuong Thao VU 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.5

Purpose: The paper employs the theory of planned behaviour, social identity theory, social presence theory, and social exchange theory to propose a model for using the social media platform Facebook in distributing information in universities. Research design, data and methodology: Data were obtained from 618 students at Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) in Vietnam. The study used structural equation modeling in SPSS and the statistical analysis software AMOS version 24 to explore the information distribution role of Facebook. Results: Findings reveal that subjective norms and social presence play a key role in driving students to use Facebook for studying. In addition, university administrators can boost student satisfaction and academic achievement through Facebook. Interestingly, students who strongly identify with the brand name of the university have a strong connection with the university are more likely to engage in behaviors supportive toward the university. Conclusions: These findings show that Facebook had played a key information distribution role in universities. Thus, the study provides the executive board of the university and teachers can gain new understanding of why students employ Facebook for studying as well as capitalize on the platform to improve several operational metrics such as brand identification, student satisfaction, and academic achievement.

Visible light-driven photocatalytic degradation of doxycycline using ZnO/g-C₃N₄/biochar composite in aqueous solution

Nguyen Van Hung,Bui Thi Minh Nguyet,Nguyen Huu Nghi,Nguyen Minh Luon,Nguyen Ngoc Bich,Le Van Thanh Son,Nguyen Trung Kien,Dao Ngoc Nhiem,Nguyen Thanh Tuoi,Dinh Quang Khieu 대한환경공학회 2024 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.29 No.4

In the present work, ZnO/g-C₃N₄/biochar was prepared, and it was used for visible-light driven photocatalytic degradation of some colorants (methylene blue, rhodamine B, methyl orange) and some antibiotics (doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, amoxicilline). Biochar was prepared by pyrolysing Phragmites australis biomass. The ZnO/g-C₃N₄/biochar composite was synthesized with the alkaline hydrolysis method. The obtained materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transition electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray/elemental mapping, ultraviolet-visible-diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results show that ZnO nanoparticles with a large surface area are highly dispersed on the g-C₃N₄ particle surface and biochar. The composite exhibits superior photocatalytic degradation ability toward doxycycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the tetracycline compared with individual components (ZnO or g-C₃N₄) and satisfies stability after six treatment cycles. The kinetics and degradation mechanisms of doxycyline were also addressed. In addition, the present catalyst also exhibits the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue, rhodamine B, methyl orange, ciprofloxacin and amoxicillin in visible-light regions.

Evaluation of Efficiency of Electrically Assisted Rapid Annealing Compared to Rapid Induction Heat Treatment

Thi Anh Nguyet Nguyen,Howook Choi,Moon-Jo Kim,Sung-Tae Hong,Heung Nam Han 한국정밀공학회 2022 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.9 No.2

The athermal effect of electric current during electrically assisted (EA) annealing, which is a simple and cost-effective heat treatment technique, is assessed by comparing the performances of EA annealing and induction heat treatment (IHT), using aluminum alloy specimens with a high dislocation density from cold rolling. The dislocation densities after EA annealing and IHT are calculated using X-ray diffraction data to compare the performance of the processes. The performance of EA annealing clearly surpasses that of IHT in a certain temperature range. However, at higher temperatures, the thermal effect alone is able to induce nearly complete annihilation of dislocation density, thus, the practical advantage of EA annealing may diminish.

The Chinese Diaspora in Southeast Asian Colonial Primate Cities: Their Role and Relationships with the Ruler of Manila (Philippines) during 1571–1640s

NGUYEN, Thi Minh Nguyet 부경대학교 글로벌지역학연구소 2022 Journal of Global and Area Studies(JGA) Vol.6 No.3

Urbanization in Southeast Asia has seen a tremedous growth since the early-modern period. In this context, the Chinese, who had a long history with Southeast Asian ancient trading ports demonstrated their role and capacity to adapt to these new model cities followed the Western urban planning. Based on the geographical and historical conditions, Southeast Asian colonial cities were quickly associated with the phenomenon of a strong Chinese diaspora [hua-kew]. In the case of the Philippine islands, thousands of Chinese started to reside there since the beginning of the colonial period, especially when the Spanish bring their own silver from Latin America to Asia. However, their relationship with the government always was complicated due to their significant position in commercial activities and interactions with the indigenous community. In contrast to the indigenous people, the Chinese gradually migrated from concentrated settelements into the colonial metropolitan area and assumed a significant economic role in term of domestic and international trade of the whole islands. During this time, they built for themselves strategic and basic “position" inside the one and only colony of Spanish in Asia. This study argues that there was a change in colonial policy that targeted the Chinese immigrants and their responses to the fluctuations in the city’s economic growth. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the successes and failures of the colonial administration’s attempts to maintain their power of the government in the central cities under the influence of Chinese communities living inside and outside the city of Manila by focusing on Southeast Asia colonial urban history through a soccio-economic dimension. As a significant characteristic of of Southeast Asian cities througout history and into the present, this “strange relationship” has helped shape a new model for urban space.

Highly effective adsorption of organic dyes from aqueous solutions on longan seed-derived activated carbon

Nguyen Van Hung,Bui Thi Minh Nguyet,Nguyen Huu Nghi,Nguyen Mau Thanh,Nguyen Duc Vu Quyen,Vo Thang Nguyen,Dao Ngoc Nhiem,Dinh Quang Khieu 대한환경공학회 2023 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.28 No.3

In this study, longan seeds - an agricultural by-product was used to fabricate activated carbon (LSAC) through two-step pyrolysis with pre-carbonization at low temperature in the first step and then activation by H3PO4. LSAC with large surface area and porous structure exhibits an excellent capacity of absorption towards both cationic dyes (methylene blue (MB), rhodamine-B (RhB)) and anionic dyes (methyl orange (MO), congo red (CR)). Experimental data can be described well by the pseudo-second kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacity based on Langmuir isotherm model was found as 502.84; 397.77; 464.66 and 350.64 mg.g−1 for MB, RhB, MO and CR, respectively. The adsorption of MB, RhB and CR on LSAC is spontaneous and endothermic, while that for MO is spontaneous but exothermic. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism of dyes on LSAC was also studied showing that it can occur by electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, the filling of pores involving the interaction between dye ions with specific functional groups such as –OH, –COOH, –NH2 and –PO43− on the LSAC surface. These results suggest that LSAC material may be envisaged as a promising adsorbent for treatment of wastewater in textile industries.

Effect of nitrogen doping on the catalytic activity of carbon nano-onions for the oxygen reduction reaction in microbial fuel cells

Thi Hiep Han,Debananda Mohapatra,Neelima Mahato,Smrutiranjan Parida,Jun Ho Shim,Anh Thi Nguyet Nguyen,Van Quang Nguyen,조문환,Jae-Jin Shim 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.81 No.-

In this study, highly graphitic nitrogen-doped carbon nano-onions (N-CNOs) were prepared by a onestep, direct, in situflame synthesis technique and their potential applications as catalysts for oxygenreduction reaction (ORR) in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) were evaluated for thefirst time. The ORR activityof the CNO, N-CNO, and the commercial Pt/C were measured using a rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE). The reaction mechanism for the N-CNO was found to follow a four-electron transfer pathway and possessa higher onset potential in RRDE measurement than CNOs. The ORR activity of N-CNO was 5.4 timesbetter than that of CNO, which was attributed to the introduction of nitrogen to the carbon faramework. The MFC fabricated with the N-CNO cathode produced a maximum power density of 49.6 mW m–2, whichwas approximately double the performance of the CNO-based MFC. The performance of N-CNO was lowcompared to Pt/C but the cost per power was only 1/310th. These results confirmed that N-CNOs could beused as a low-cost alternative and an energy-efficient metal-free ORR catalyst for practical MFCapplications.

Crowdshippers’ intentions to continue participating in last-mile delivery: A study in Vietnam

Nguyen Nguyet,Tran Thi Hoang Ha,Luu Thi Thuy Duong,Vu Tuan Duong 한국해운물류학회 2023 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.39 No.3

The growth of last-mile delivery in developing countries is featuring the important contribution of crowdshippers. Therefore, exploring the factors affecting the intentions to stay in jobs of the crowdshippers is of great significance to maintain and sustainably develop the last-mile delivery service. Based on the Social Exchange Theory, we hypothesize that benefits (economic benefits, professional reputation, and job autonomy) and costs (risks and stress at work) have an effect on crowdshippers’ intentions to continue participating in last-mile delivery service in Vietnam. We also look for differences in motivations to stay in job between full-time and part-time workers. Survey data from 428 crowdshippers were analyzed using SmartPLS. The research findings indicate that economic benefits and work autonomy (benefits) have positive influences on intention to continue participating in crowd logistics, while risks and job stress (cost) have negative effects on the intention of crowsdhippers to continue their work. In addition, research findings also uncover that differences in motivation (perception of benefits and costs) to stay in job between full-time and part-time workers also affect their intentions. Although reputation did not show a significant impact on the crowdshippers’ intentions to continue participating in crowd logistics, it was discovered that reputation has a positive effect on full-time crowdshippers’ intentions to continue working. Based on the findings of this study, we recommend that businesses increase benefits and reduce costs in job to sustain and increase the continued participation in last-mile delivery.

Factors Affecting the Liquidity of Firms After Mergers and Acquisitions: A Case Study of Commercial Banks in Vietnam

Thi Nguyet Dung NGUYEN,Thanh Cong HA,Manh Cuong NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.5

The purpose of the research is to assess the factors affecting the liquidity of the commercial banks that are conducting mergers and acquisitions activities in Vietnam during the 2008–2018 period. This study employs samples based on 2-component data sets with crosssection and time-series data collected from the annual report of the State Bank and the audited acquisitions financial statements of nine commercial banks engaged in mergers and acquisitions activities. To carry out the research objectives, the authors conducted quantitative analysis through the Pooled OLS, REM, FEM and GMM models. The results shown that: (i) bank liquidity is positively affected by liquidity lagged, the return on equity (ROE) and economic growth; negatively affected by bank size, non-performing loan, short-run loan to deposit ratio; (ii) there is not enough evidence to conclude about the relationship between net profit margin, equity-to-assets ratio and inflation rate to bank liquidity; (iii) notably, we found evidence that, after the mergers and acquisitions, the liquidity of Vietnamese commercial banks decreased. The findings of this study suggest that bank managers take a more comprehensive view of the results of mergers and acquisitions and implications for banks to improve liquidity in the post-merger and acquisitions conditions.

Facile one-step synthesis of Ir-Pd bimetallic alloy networks as efficient bifunctional catalysts for oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reactions

Nguyen, Anh Thi Nguyet,Shim, Jun Ho Elsevier 2018 Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry Vol.827 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This paper introduces a facile one-step process to synthesize highly interconnected nanoporous Ir-Pd alloys supported on carbon that exhibit excellent bifunctional electrocatalytic activities for both the oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reactions with reasonable stability in alkaline electrolytes. Nanoporous Pd networks with crystalline {111} faces were shown experimentally to serve mainly as active sites for the oxygen reduction reaction, whereas the Ir nanoparticles incorporated in the Pd nanoframe networks, where the optimized Ir:Pd ratio was 0.23:0.77 (<I>n</I> = 10), were responsible for the oxygen evolution reaction. Such three-dimensional architectures provide a high density of active sites for the oxygen electrochemical reaction and facilitate electron transport. More importantly, the nanoporous Ir-Pd alloy nanocomposites exhibited similar stability for the oxygen reduction reaction but superior catalytic activity to the commercial Pd catalyst in alkaline solutions. In addition, the materials were also highly active for the oxygen evolution reaction, e.g., a small overpotential at 10 mA cm−2 (1.628 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode), making it a high-performance bifunctional catalyst for both the oxygen electrochemical reaction. Rotating ring-disk electrode measurements showed that the oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reactions on the Ir-Pd catalysts proceeded predominantly through the desired 4-electron pathway.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Facile one-step synthesis of a nanoporous Ir-Pd bimetallic alloy network. </LI> <LI> The composites exhibited bifunctional ORR/OER performance compared to Pd/C and Ir/C. </LI> <LI> Ir23Pd77/C exhibited the highest activity with good durability and overpotential. </LI> <LI> The properties of Ir23Pd77/C were due to its high surface area and high porosity. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>A highly active bifunctional electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction and evolution reactions was developed based on a highly interconnected nanoporous Ir-Pd bimetallic alloy network.</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
