        Vingroup: The Rising Dragon That Put Vietnam on the Global Map

        Vingroup JSC (formerly Technocom) was founded in Ukraine in 1993 as an instant noodle factory. Since then, the Group has expanded into many other industries, placing tourism and hospitality as their first stepping-stone, then venturing into retail, real estate, education, and recently shifting towards a promising industrial and technology industry. Vingroup has now become the largest conglomerate in Vietnam in terms of market capitalization (VnExpress International, 2019). Having established a solid foundation in the Vietnamese market, Vingroup is eyeing the new promising yet challenging international market, with its competitive advantage in industrials and technology. Standing at a crucial juncture in its ascent, the conglomerate must implement a comprehensive and long-term strategy to reach its next milestone. In 2016, Vingroup primarily focused on four main business segments, encompassing property, hospitality - entertainment, consumer retail, and social infrastructure services. Over the course of two decades, Vinpearl and Vincom have grown into the market-leading hospitality and shopping malls brand in Vietnam. The brands’ establishment coincided with the flourishing economy of the country in the early 2000s, therefore, quickly achieved market dominance. Having such favorable conditions, the Group continued its expansion and investment in other backboned industries, which has reaped correspondingly fruitful results. The key success factors of Vingroup lies in an entrepreneurial mindset, speed, perfectionism and discipline, and last but not least, the national spirit. These traits have allowed the Group to unleash its potential capabilities and go beyond all boundaries. Both small-and-medium-sized companies and big firms can take Vingroup as a lesson for their strategy and corporate culture so that they can lead successful and sustainable growth in today’s competitive market.

        The Effects of Online Social Influencers on Purchasing Behavior of Generation Z: An Empirical Study in Vietnam

        The purpose of this study is to understand the impact of influencers on generation Z (Gen Z) in the online environment. This article has applied the theories of source credibility, TAM, IAM, and TPB to identify influencer characteristics that affect the purchasing behaviors of Gen Z customers. This research was conducted using a Google Form survey with 24 pre-designed questions. A total of 464 valid questionnaires from Gen Z Vietnamese were collected between November 2020 and January 2021. Data was analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 3 software. The analysis results confirmed that the components of influencer credibility have a positive impact on Gen Z’s purchasing behaviors under the mediated influence of argument quality, perceived usefulness, and social influence. Surprisingly, for Gen Z, the influencers’ attractiveness has the strongest impact on their online behavior. More specifically, attractiveness plays the most important role in the perceived usefulness and social influence of Gen Z customers, while influencers’ expertise has the strongest impact on argument quality delivered to customers. This study provides evidence of a change in the way Gen Z responds to marketing activities. They are more drawn by the attraction of influencers than their expertise.

        Antimicrobial efficacy of extracts and constituents fractionated from <i>Rheum tanguticum</i> Maxim. ex Balf. rhizomes against phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The antimicrobial efficacies of extracts and constituents fractionated from <I>Rheum tanguticum</I> rhizomes were evaluated by using <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> bioassay against seven phytopathogenic fungi and ten pathogenic bacteria, respectively. Dichloromethane and ethyl acetate soluble extracts derived from <I>R. tanguticum</I> rhizomes effectively controlled plant diseases caused by five fungi <I>Magnaporthe oryzae</I>, <I>Blumeria graminis</I> f. sp<I>. hordei, Colletotrichum coccodes, Phytophthora infestans,</I> and <I>Puccinia recondita</I> in <I>in vivo</I> whole plant bioassay. In addition, these extracts showed strong inhibitory activity against the bacterial growth of <I>Acidovorax avenae</I> subsp. <I>cattlyae</I> (Aac), <I>Clavibacter michiganensis</I> subsp. <I>michiganensis</I>, <I>Xanthomonas arboricola</I> pv. <I>pruni</I> (Xap), and <I>Pseudomonas syringae</I> pv. <I>actinidiae</I> (Psa), with MIC values ranging from 125 to 250μg/mL. The active extracts of <I>R. tanguticum</I> rhizomes were fractionated by using various and repeated chromatographic techniques to yield seven constituents that included three anthraquinones and four stilbenes. Notably, at concentrations ranging from 75 to 300μg/mL, physcion (<B>DH03</B>) and chrysophanol (<B>DH04</B>) were significantly effective in suppressing the development of barley powdery mildew (BPM) caused by <I>B. graminis</I> f. sp. <I>hordei,</I> with control values from 80 to 96.7%. Moreover, stilbenes rhapontigenin (<B>DH02</B>) and desoxyrhapontigenin (<B>DH05</B>) had a broad spectrum and potent activity against phytopathogenic bacteria; <B>DH05</B> effectively inhibited the bacterial growth of Aac, <I>Burkholderia glumae</I> and Psa at MICs ranging from 38 to 150μg/mL. In this paper, we report their antibacterial activity for the first time. The botanical materials containing anthraquinones and stilbenes were active against both phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria.         Impact of long COVID-19 on posttraumatic stress disorder as modified by health literacy: an observational study in Vietnam

        Objectives: The incidence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has increased, particularly among individuals who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Health literacy is considered a “social vaccine” that helps people respond effectively to the pandemic. We aimed to investigate the association between long COVID-19 and PTSD, and to examine the modifying role of health literacy in this association.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at 18 hospitals and health centers in Vietnam from December 2021 to October 2022. We recruited 4,463 individuals who had recovered from COVID-19 infection for at least 4 weeks. Participants provided information about their sociodemographics, clinical parameters, health-related behaviors, health literacy (using the 12-item short-form health literacy scale), long COVID-19 symptoms and PTSD (Impact Event Scale-Revised score of 33 or higher). Logistic regression models were used to examine associations and interactions.Results: Out of the study sample, 55.9% had long COVID-19 symptoms, and 49.6% had PTSD. Individuals with long COVID-19 symptoms had a higher likelihood of PTSD (odds ratio [OR], 1.68; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.63–2.12; p<0.001). Higher health literacy was associated with a lower likelihood of PTSD (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.97–0.99; p=0.001). Compared to those with long COVID-19 symptoms and the lowest health literacy score, those with long COVID-19 symptoms and a 1-point health literacy increment had a 3% lower likelihood of PTSD (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.96–0.99; p=0.001).Conclusion: Health literacy was found to be a protective factor against PTSD and modified the negative impact of long COVID-19 symptoms on PTSD.
