Relation between the emoticons and emotions
Minseop Kim,Juyong Chun,Seonyeong Jeon,Younha Chang,Pf. Youngshin Kwak 한국HCI학회 2017 한국HCI학회 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.2
This study aims to investigate relations between the emoticons and emotions using the ‘kakaotalk’ default emoticons. The emoticon distribution map would be made with new axes from PCA and some ‘Kakaotalk’ default emoticons. Facial expression and gesture cannot be expressed on mobile messenger. This leads to the global use of emoticon which complements the limitation of mobile messenger communication. Therefore, this study will see what emotions are delivered by each emoticons. 8 adjectives are generated and reduced through focus group interview, categorizing, and literature studies to evaluate stimuli, which is emoticons consisted of facial expression and motion. 37 emoticons are selected as the stimuli based on our own criteria such as emoticons that express emotions with a various degree rather than situations. The semantic differential experiment is performed with 12 subjects and monopolar scales of 8 adjectives. After PCA, the 1st principal component is defined as positiveness and 2nd one is unpredictability, which explains the results up to about 80%. Some emotions were orthogonal to one another and there are more various emotions in negative emoticons rather than positive space. We concluded that the threshold for using positive emoticons is much higher in comparison with that of negative emoticon. There were somewhat empty space at the positive area in the emoticon distribution map, which means less expressed emotion space through emoticons at the positive area. The emoticon designer could focus on that empty space on the map to fascinate messenger’s users.
Comparison of Temperature Effects on Korean Bentonite Permeability
Minseop Kim,Jin-seop Kim,Seok Yoon,Gi Jun Lee 한국방사성폐기물학회 2023 한국방사성폐기물학회 학술논문요약집 Vol.21 No.1
Bentonite has been considered as a potential buffer material in the engineering barriers of highlevel radioactive waste disposal systems. The intrusion of groundwater and heat from the waste change the temperature of the bentonite, which can alter the hydraulic properties of the bentonite. In this study, temperature effects on permeability were observed in two Ca-type bentonites. Laboratory tests were conducted on two types of block that were compacted using Korean Gyeongju bentonite and bentonil-WRK at different dry densities. Permeability tests were conducted at three different temperatures, namely 30°C, 60°C, and 90°C, using deionized water. Moreover, comparison between two Ca-type bentonites is carried out.
Investigating and improving user experience of Ulsan BIS (Bus Information System)
Minseop Kim,Jiyoung Lee,Sungwon Jang,Chajoong Kim 한국HCI학회 2017 한국HCI학회 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.2
This study aims to identify the problems of current Ulsan BIS (bus information system) and improve the usability and user experience of the system. The key questions are what problems users experienced with Ulsan BIS, what alternatives users have used instead of Ulsan BIS and what wishes user have for future BIS. In order to answer the questions, three methods were adopted and user studies were conducted: contextual inquiry, focus group, and collage making. According to the results, users want BIS like an air for the universal problem and high accuracy. They also need just one solution rather than a combination with other map mobile apps such as Naver or Daum. Lastly, 4 wishes for BIS were derived: customizing, intuitiveness, harmony, and romance that decreases anxiety. They also had a wish of the interaction between passengers and drivers and of consistent bus information after they get on the bus.
Identification of Mechanical Parameters of Korean Domestic Bentonite With Machine Learning Technique
Minseop Kim,Seok Yoon,Seungrae Lee 한국방사성폐기물학회 2022 한국방사성폐기물학회 학술논문요약집 Vol.20 No.1
Various models have been proposed to describe the swelling behavior of buffer in high level waster repository. One of the most notable models, the Barcelona Basic Model (BBM), is a mechanical model that simulates the behavior of unsaturated ground and is widely applied to soils that undergo large expansion due to water. Among the BBM parameters of Kyeongju bentonite, which is found in Korea, there are no experimental data for parameters that describe the unsaturated state. Such hydromechanical properties should be characterized through experimental programs. However, such experiments are highly complicated and require long periods of time to produce an unsaturated state through different methods according to the suction range. Although there are several studies in which geotechnical parameters were obtained through a back analysis instead of direct experiments, few studies have employed machine learning methods for the identification of geotechnical parameters. In this study, instead of direct experiments, the results of a relatively simple swelling pressure experiment was compared to the numerical analysis results to propose a method of determining some of BBM parameters. Influential factors were identified by a sensitivity analysis and the values of the factors were estimated using an artificial neural network and optimization method. The obtained parameters were applied to the numerical model to estimate the swelling pressure growth, which was subsequently compared to the experimental value. As a result, it was found that there was no significant difference between the two swelling values.
