A Class of Multivalent Functions with Negative Coefficients Defined by Convolution

        R. M. Ali,M. H. Khan,V. Ravichandran,K. G. Subramanian 대한수학회 2006 대한수학회보 Vol.43 No.1

For a given $p$-valent analytic function $g$ with positive coefficients in the open unit disk $\UD$, we study a class of functions $f(z)=z^p-\sum_{n=m}^\infty a_nz^n$\ ($a_n\geq 0$) satisfying \[ \frac{1}{p}\Re \left( \frac{z(f*g)'(z)}{(f*g)(z)}\right) > \alpha\quad (0\leq \alpha<1; z\in\Delta).\] Coefficient inequalities, distortion and covering theorems, as well as closure theorems are determined. The results obtained extend several known results as special cases.

For a given p-valent analytic function g with positive coefficients in the open unit disk $\Delta$, we study a class of functions $f(z) = z^p - \sum\limits{_{n=m}}{^\infty} a_nz^n(a_n{\geq}0)$ satisfying $$\frac 1 {p}{\Re}\;(\frac {z(f*g)'(z)} {(f*g)(z)})\;>\;\alpha\;(0{\leq}\;\alpha\;<\;1;z{\in}{\Delta})$$ Coefficient inequalities, distortion and covering theorems, as well as closure theorems are determined. The results obtained extend several known results as special cases.

Food Seasoning Spices Mixture Improves Glucose Metabolism and Lipid Profile in Fructose-Fed Hyperinsulinemic Rats

        C.V. Anuradha,S. Rajamani,R. Suganthi,M.K. Ravichandran 한국식품영양과학회 2005 Journal of medicinal food Vol.8 No.4

Fructose feeding has been shown to induce insulin resistance in rats, associated with hyperinsulinemia, hy-perglycemia, and hypertriglyceridemia. We have investigated the effect of administering food seasoning spices mixture (SM)on glucose, insulin, and lipids in circulation and carbohydrate enzymes in the erythrocytes of high fructose-fed rats. Addi-tionally, we also measured the protein glycation status by assaying the levels of glycated hemoglobin, fructosamine, and plasmaprotein glycation. Male Wistar rats received a daily diet containing either 60% fructose or 60% starch (control). The rats wereadministered SM at three different doses (10, 30, or 50 mg/day per rat) orally 15 days later. At the end of the 45-day exper-imental period, fructose-fed rats showed significantly higher levels of plasma glucose and insulin, dyslipidemia, and alter-ations in enzyme activities. Treatment with SM significantly reduced plasma glucose and insulin levels and brought about afavorable lipid profile. In these rats, the activities of enzymes of glucose metabolism were normal. These effects were ob-served at all three doses of SM. High homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) values indicated insulin resistance in fructose-fed rats, while the HOMA values in SM-treated fructose-fed rats were comparable to those of control rats. We conclude thatadministration of SM improves glucose metabolism and plasma lipid profile in fructose-fed rats, possibly through improvedinsulin-sensitizing actions of the active constituents.

      • Bio-photonic detection method for morphological analysis of anthracnose disease and physiological disorders of Diospyros kaki

        Wijesinghe, R. E.,Lee, S. Y.,Ravichandran, N. K.,Shirazi, M. F.,Moon, B.,Jung, H. Y.,Jeon, M.,Kim, J. Springer Science + Business Media 2017 Optical review Vol.24 No.2

<P>The pathological and physiological defects in various types of fruits lead to large amounts of economical waste. It is well recognized that internal fruit defects due to pathological infections and physiological disorders can be effectively visualized at an initial stage of the disease using a well-known bio-photonic detection method called optical coherence tomography (OCT). This work investigates the use of OCT for identifying the morphological variations of anthracnose (bitter rot) disease infected and physiologically disordered Diospyros kaki (Asian Persimmon) fruits. An experiment was conducted using fruit samples that were carefully selected from persimmon orchards. Depthresolved images with a high axial resolution were acquired using 850-nm-based spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT) system. The obtained exemplary high-resolution two-dimensional and volumetric three-dimensional images revealed complementary morphological differences between healthy and defected samples. Moreover, the obtained depth-profile analysis results confirmed the disappearance of the healthy cell layers among the healthyinfected boundary regions. Thus, the proposed method has the potential to increase the diagnostic accuracy of the OCT technique used in agricultural plantations.</P>

      • Deposition of zinc–zinc phosphate composite coatings on steel by cathodic electrochemical treatment

        Kavitha, C.,Sankara Narayanan, T. S.,Ravichandran, K.,Park, I. S.,Lee, M. H. Springer Science + Business Media 2014 Journal of coatings technology and research Vol.11 No.3

The present work aims at the development of an energy-efficient and eco-friendly approach for the deposition of zinc phosphate coatings on steel. The study describes the possibility of preparing zinc-zinc phosphate composite coatings by cathodic electrochemical treatment using dilute phosphoric acid as an electrolyte and zinc as an anode. The methodology enables the preparation of coatings with different proportions of zinc and zinc phosphate by suitably varying the applied current density, pH, and treatment time. Adhesion of the coating on mild steel and adhesion of paint film on the phosphate coating were found to be good. The surface morphology of the coatings exhibited platelet-type features and small white crystals (agglomerated at some places) which represented zinc and zinc phosphate, respectively. An increase in current density (from 20 to 50 mA/cm(2)) increased the size of the zinc crystals, and coatings prepared at 40 and 50 mA/cm(2) resembled that of electrodeposited zinc. Since the proportions of zinc and zinc phosphate could be varied with applied current density, pH, and treatment time, it would be possible to use this methodology to prepare coatings that would offer different degrees of corrosion protection.

Effect of Food Seasoning Spices Mixture on Biomarkers of Oxidative Stress in Tissues of Fructose-Fed Insulin-Resistant Rats

        C.V. Anuradha,R. Suganthi,S. Rajamani,M.K. Ravichandran 한국식품영양과학회 2007 Journal of medicinal food Vol.10 No.1

High fructose feeding in normal rats induces insulin resistance and also facilitates oxidative damage. The pre-sent study examines the effects of a spices mixture (SM) on oxidative stress markers and antioxidant potential in tissues ofhigh fructose-fed insulin-resistant rats. Male Wistar rats received a semisynthetic diet containing either 60% fructose or 60%starch. SM administration at three different doses (10, 30, and 50 mg/day per rat) was initiated orally 15 days later and con-tinued for the next 30 days. After the total experimental period of 45 days, peroxidation of lipids and antioxidant status inliver and kidney were quantified. Fructose-treated rats showed increased levels of peroxidation indices such as thiobarbituricacid-reactive substances and lipid hydroperoxides in tissues. The condition was associated with an inadequate antioxidant sys-tem. Administration of SM along with fructose diet reduced the levels of peroxidation markers in tissues and improved theantioxidant status. The positive effect of SM on the oxidantantioxidant balance could be attributed to the active constituentsof the different spices present in the mixture.
