To investigate the effects of electrolyzed watertreatment on the qualities of rice noodles prepared withsemidry- milled rice flour, pasting properties and thermalproperties of rice flour, and the cooking and texturalproperties of rice noodles were determined. Higher peakviscosity and lower melting enthalpy were observed inelectrolyzed water (EW) treated rice flour. The hardness, gumminess and chewiness of rice noodle in slightly acidicelectrolyzed water treated rice noodles with availablechlorine concentration (ACC) 20.32 mg/L were increasedsignificantly (p\0.05). The cooking loss decreased significantlyin strong acidic electrolyzed water treated noodleswith ACC 10.09 mg/L treatment (p\0.05). Theresults indicated that EW could promote the gelatinizationof rice flour, and improve the textural qualities of ricenoodles. Therefore EW was appropriate to be used in ricenoodle production.

Elastic constraints are usually simplified as “spring forces” exerted on beam ends without considering the “spring deformation”. The partial differential equation governing the free vibrations of a cantilever Bernoulli-Euler beam considering the deformation of elastic constraints is firstly established, and is nondimensionalized to obtain two dimensionless factors, κv and κr, describing the effects of elastically vertical and rotational end constraints, respectively. Then the frequency equation for the above Bernoulli- Euler beam model is derived using the method of separation of variables. A numerical analysis method is proposed to solve the transcendental frequency equation for the continuous change of the frequency with κv and κr. Then the mode shape functions are given. Finally, effects of κv and κr on free vibration characteristics of the beam with different slenderness ratios are calculated and analyzed. The results indicate that the effects of κv are larger on higher-order free vibration characteristics than on lower-order ones, and the impact strength decreases with slenderness ratio. Under a relatively larger slenderness ratio, the effects of κv can be neglected for the fundamental frequency characteristics, while cannot for higher-order ones. However, the effects of κr are large on both higher- and lower-order free vibration characteristics, and cannot be neglected no matter the slenderness ratio is large or small.

Hizikia fusiforme, Capsosiphon fulvescens,Undaria pinnatifida sporophyll, and Undaria pinnatifidablade extracts were evaluated for in vitro antioxidant andantihyperglycemic activities. Seaweed extracts containedhigh levels of phenolic compounds (12.44 to 39.01 mg ofgallic acid equivalents/g of extract) and exhibited multipleantioxidant activities. Extracts showed weak inhibition ofα-amylase. However, all extracts showed pronouncedinhibition of α-glucosidase with EC50 values from 2.56 to18.81 mg/mL. U. pinnatifida sporophyll and U. pinnatifidablade extracts both contained protocatechuic and syringicacids. p-Coumaric and ferulic acids were detected only inthe H. fusiforme extract. Caffeic acid and epicatechin werethe dominant phenoilc acids found in C. fulvescensextracts. A basis for further research is provided to establishthe capability of seaweed extracts as hypoglycemic agentsor functional food ingredients.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of intravenous contrast on dose calculation in radiation treatment planning for oesophageal cancer. Methods: A total of 22 intravein-contrasted patients with oesophageal cancer were included. The Hounsfield unit (HU) value of the enhanced blood stream in thoracic great vessels and heart was overridden with 45 HU to simulate the non-contrast CT image, and 145 HU, 245 HU, 345 HU, and 445 HU to model the different contrast-enhanced scenarios. 1000 HU and -1000 HU were used to evaluate two non-physiologic extreme scenarios. Variation in dose distribution of the different scenarios was calculated to quantify the effect of contrast enhancement. Results: In the contrast-enhanced scenarios, the mean variation in dose for planning target volume (PTV) was less than 1.0%, and those for the total lung and spinal cord were less than 0.5%. When the HU value of the blood stream exceeded 245 the average variation exceeded 1.0% for the heart V40. In the non-physiologic extreme scenarios, the dose variation of PTV was less than 1.0%, while the dose calculations of the organs at risk were greater than 2.0%. Conclusions: The use of contrast agent does not significantly influence dose calculation of PTV, lung and spinal cord. However, it does have influence on dose accuracy for heart.

To screen the more promising antithrombotic abalone extracts, the in vitro antithrombotic activity of 6abalone (Haliotis Discus Hannai Ino) extracts was examined in this study. Results of in vitro studies indicated that water extract of abalone viscera (WEV) presented significant longer prothrombin time (PT), partial thromboplasmatin time (APTT), and thrombin time (TT) than other abalone extracts. In addition, the platelet aggregation process was inhibited by WEV as well. The antithrombotic potential of WEV was further investigated in animal studies which revealed that WEV prolonged tail bleeding time, APTT but not PT and TT and showed no effect on the platelet aggregation and platelet number. The WEV treated rats presented lower cholesterol and triglyceride level than the control group although the difference was not statistically significant. Results of this study indicate the antithrombotic activity of abalone extracts, especially WEV, and may contribute to the further study in this field.

A high step-up dc-dc converter is proposed for photovoltaic power systems in this paper. The proposed converter consists of an input current doubler, a symmetrical switched-capacitor doubler and an active-clamp circuit. The input current doubler minimizes the input current ripple. The symmetrical switched-capacitor doubler is composed of two symmetrical quasi-resonant switched-capacitor circuits, which share the leakage inductance of the transformer as a resonant inductor. The rectifier diodes (switched-capacitor circuit) are turned off at the zero current switching (ZCS) condition, so that the reverse-recovery problem of the diodes is removed. In addition, the symmetrical structure results in an output voltage ripple reduction because the voltage ripples of the charge/pump capacitors cancel each other out. Meanwhile, the voltage stress of the rectifier diodes is clamped at half of the output voltage. In addition, the active-clamp circuit clamps the voltage surges of the switches and recycles the energy of the transformer leakage inductance. Furthermore, pulse-width modulation plus phase angle shift (PPAS) is employed to control the output voltage. The operation principle of the converter is analyzed and experimental results obtained from a 400W prototype are presented to validate the performance of the proposed converter.
