Sang-Woo Kim, Jae-Young Choi, and co-workers report on p. 2187 the electrical and structural stability of the nanogenerators, with excellent charge scavenging performance under external mechanical loads such as bending and rolling. The purpose of this report is to evaluate effect of Korean medical treatment on idiopathic gonadotropin-dependent precocious puberty (G-DPP) patient received herbal medicine. We administered Aesopjiyoun-tang remedy to idiopathic G-DPP and analyzed the delay effect by hormonal value and radiographs; the height growth effect by measurement of height. After Korean medical treatment, suppression effect to peak- Luteinizing Hormone level (LHL) is 14.39IU/L to 10.9IU/L for 13month, growth effect to height value is 11cm/13month; and change of mean growth velocity (MGV) is 6.08cm/year to 10.06cm/year. The gain in height by treatment is 3.98cm/year. The result suggests Aesopjiyoun-tang can be an effective treatment for G-DPP. Herbal medicine can be used as an alternative treatment in place of the GnRH treatment.

<P>[Purpose] This study was conducted to predict the risks of standing on mediolateral ramps by identifying the ratios of the multifidus muscles on the two sides of the spine when standing postures are maintained on mediolateral ramps of diverse angles. [Subjects and Methods] The study was conducted with 15 healthy adult males. All subjects participated voluntarily. Mediolateral ramps at five angles (0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, and 20°) were used. Ultrasonography was used to determine the thicknesses of the multifidus muscles under individual conditions. [Results] The ratio of the left/right multifidus muscles showed statistically significant differences as the angle of the mediolateral ramp increased. Post-hoc test results showed that the use of the two multifidus muscles was asymmetric on mediolateral ramps at angles equal to or larger than 10°. [Conclusion] The asymmetric use of the multifidus muscles began on a mediolateral ramp at an angle of 10°, suggesting that subjects with instability in body control might have risk factors such as falls on mediolateral ramps with angles equal to or larger than 10°. Therefore, caregivers must be attentive and/or assist patients and older adults when they are walking on ramps at angles of approximately 10° and up in their daily lives.</P>

The characteristics of dynamic systems subjected to multiple linear constraints are determined by considering the constrained effects. Although there have been many researches to investigate the dynamic characteristics of constrained systems, most of them depend on numerical analysis like Lagrange multipliers method. In 1992, Udwadia and Kalaba presented an explicit form to describe the motion for constrained discrete systems. Starting from the method, this study determines the dynamic characteristics of the systems to have positive semidefinite mass matrix and the continuous systems. And this study presents a closed form to calculate frequency response matrix for constrained systems subjected to harmonic forces. The proposed methods that do not depend on any numerical schemes take more generalized forms than other research results.

<P>[Purpose] This study aims to determine the effects of various wheelchair handle grip directions on the muscle activities of the upper body of an assistant during movement on ascending and descending ramps. [Subjects and Methods] The study subjects were 17 young and healthy participants whose mean age, height, and weight was 23.0 ± 2.7 years, 175.5 ± 4.7 cm, and 70.0 ± 14.2 kg, respectively; all subjects voluntarily consented to participate. Three grip directions were tested: general grip, medial grip, and neutral grip. Muscle activities in the serratus anterior, rhomboid, erector spine, biceps brachii, triceps brachii, bracioradialis, flexor carpi radialis, and extensor carpi radialis were measured using an electromyograph (EMG). [Results] Significant differences were seen in the muscle activities of the biceps brachii, bracioradialis, and flexor carpi radialis during wheelchair movement on an ascending ramp and in the biceps brachii and triceps brachii during movement on a descending ramp. [Conclusion] Measurement results showed that the general grip resulted in the highest muscle activities in the upper body of assistants during wheelchair movement on both ascending and descending ramps.</P>

Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the predictor variables that could influence overlap syndrome in functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) among psychiatric patients. Methods Data collected from 170 outpatients visiting the psychiatric clinic at a university hospital. FGIDs were screened according to the Rome III questionnaire-Korean version. Demographic factors were investigated, and psychosocial factors were evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire-15, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Korean and the Short form health survey. Chi-squared test, Student’s t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation test were used as statistical analysis methods. Results There were no differences in the epidemiologic data between the two groups divided according to the FGID status. In those with FGID overlap syndrome, FD-NERD was most common (n=29), followed by IBS-NERD (n=20). Patients with overlap syndrome had the highest depressive, anxiety, and somatic symptoms. The overlap syndrome group had the lowest physical component summary and mental component summary. FGID symptom severity was significantly correlated with PCS and MCS in the overlap syndrome group. Conclusion Psychological factors are associated with the overlap syndrome of FGID. Acknowledging this common comorbidity may facilitate the recognition and treatment of patients with FGID.
Effect of Harvest Time on Seed Quality of Silage Corn Inbreds and Hybrids

In order to determine the optimum harvest time for the seed production of inbreds and hybrids in silage corn, the ears of sib-pollinated 'KS5', 'KS7rhm', and 'Ga209' and cross-pollinated 'KS5' $\times$ 'KS6' (Suwon19), 'KS7 rhm' $\times$ 'KSl17' (Suwonok), and 'Ga209' $\times$ 'DB544'(Kwanganok) were harvested at the one-week intervals from 4 to 10 weeks after silking. The optimum harvest time for the seed production for 'KS5', 'KS5' $\times$ 'KS6', 'KS7 rhm', and 'KS7rhm' $\times$ 'KS117' was 7 weeks after silking considering both emergence rate and plumule growth in cold test. Although earlier harvested seeds showed similar germination rate as the seeds harvested at the optimum time at $25^{\circ}C$, their emergence rate were lower in cold test. Seed weight and $\alpha$-amylase activity of earlier harvested seeds were lower compared to those of seeds harvested at the optimum time, while leakage of total sugars and electrolytes were higher. However, the later harvested seeds showed lower germination rates at $25^{\circ}C$ and emergence rates in cold test probably due to the lower $\alpha$-amylase activity although they showed increased seed weight and reduced leakage of total sugars and electrolytes. In contrast, the emergence rate of 'Ga209' and 'Ga209' $\times$ 'DB544' in cold test increased up to 10 weeks after silking probably due to the increased seed weight and $\alpha$-amylase activity and reduced sugar and electrolyte leakages during the germination. The cross-pollinated F$_1$ hybrid seeds showed higher germination and emergence rates at $25^{\circ}C$ and in cold test, and higher plumule growth and $\alpha$-amylase activity compared to those of sib-pollinated inbreds.

<P>Transition metal oxides have been extensively studied and utilized as efficient catalysts. However, the strongly correlated behavior which often results in intriguing emergent phenomena in these materials has been mostly overlooked in understanding the electrochemical activities. Here, we demonstrate a close correlation between the phase transitions and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in strongly correlated SrRuO3. By systematically introducing Ru-O vacancies into the single-crystalline SrRuO3epitaxial thin films, we induced a phase transition in crystalline symmetry which resulted in the corresponding modification of the electronic structure. The modified electronic structure significantly affects the electrochemical activities, so a 30% decrease in the overpotential for the OER activity was achieved. Our study suggests that a substantial enhancement in the OER activity can be realized even within single material systems, by rational design and engineering of their crystal and electronic structures.</P>

Objective: Tumor necrosis factor-a $(TNF-{\alpha})$, a potent immuno-modulator and pro-inflammatory cytokine, has been implicated in many pathological processes. In this study, the author examined whether promoter region polymorphism in the $TNF-{\alpha}$a gene at position-308 affect the odds of cerebral infarction (CI) and whether genetic risk is enhanced by sasang constitutional classification. Methods: 212 CI patients and 610 healthy controls were genotyped and determined according to sasang constitutional classification. The amplified genotypes were analyzed on $8\%$ polyacrylamide gel. The alleles were visualized by ethidium bromide staining. Primers for $TNF-{\alpha}$ were designed to incorporate a polymorphic site at a position -308 bp of the $TNF-{\alpha}$ gene into an NcoI restriction site. Restriction digests generated products of 87 and 20 bp for G allele and 107 bp for A allele. Results : A significant decrease was found for the $TNF-{\alpha}$ A allele in CI patients compared with controls (P=0.033, odds ratio, O.R.: 0.622). However, there was no significant association between $TNF-{\alpha}$ polymorphism and sasang constitution in CI patients. Conclusion: My finding suggests that $TNF-{\alpha}$promoter region polymorphism is responsible for susceptibility to CI in Koreans.
