Irradiance and Temperature Transient Sensitivity Analysis for Photovoltaic Control
Katherine A. Kim,Philip T. Krein,Jay J. Lee,Hyunsu Bae,Bo-Hyung Cho 전력전자학회 2011 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2011 No.5
This paper analyzes control scheme sensitivity to changes in irradiance and temperature around the maximum power point (MPP) for photovoltaic (PV) panels. Conventional control schemes such as constant voltage, current, and resistance, as well as a newly introduced voltage-offset resistance control (VRC) are compared. Based on experimental PV data and a validated model, VRC is found to have the lowest sensitivity to typical transients. Stability analysis of a buck and boost converter under VRC indicate that some ranges of the equivalent resistance are stable while others can cause instability. Two established PV control methods are assessed in terms of transient stability and three additional low-sensitivity methods utilizing VRC are outlined. These methods are applicable to PV controllers taking infrequent measurements that hold the control line steady between samples.
Not So Black and White: Using Q‐Method Analysis to Identify Racial Perceptions in Memphis, Tennessee
Katherine Mae Wiederhold 한국주관성연구학회 2009 Journal of Human Subjectivity Vol.7 No.1
The purpose of this project is to decipher the current racial perceptions of Memphians on the media’s representation of race in the city. Using a Q‐Method analysis, audience member perceptions were gauged. Perceptions were compared to and contrasted with those with similar and varying ethnographic and demographic information, with the researcher looking for similarities among individuals. By analyzing the Q‐deck card sort, audience members’ ideas, values, and perceptions became apparent, and certain conclusions concerning their reactions and subjective perceptions ―individually, racially, and collectively― were made. Each of the factors was made of up a very diverse group of respondents. Their views on crime and race in Memphis vary by each factor. Overall, this research has shown that people of various ages, genders, races, cultures can and do share outlooks on the world.
Retail place attachment: a qualitative study of apparel shoppers
Katherine Shaw,Pauline Sullivan 한국마케팅과학회 2013 Journal of Global Fashion Marketing Vol.4 No.4
This exploratory study proposes an empirical look at the meaning of place attachmentfor the retail consumer and studies its role in online shopping patronage. A theoreticalframework was developed from a review of the literature, and guides this research. Thedependent variable in this study was retail place attachment. The aim of the study wasto validate constructs of retail place attachment and identify its influence on onlineretail patronage. A total of 429 participants were randomly chosen from a social-networking databaseand two professional organization databases using the snowball sampling technique. Inclusion criteria for this sample included gender, age range of 18 and up, and all ethnicbackgrounds. Survey participants were recruited from Facebook, a social-networkingdatabase, and two professional organization databases. Identifying that consumers value both hedonic and utilitarian aspects of theirshopping experience, this study assists in understanding the meaning of the term “retailplace attachment.” Retailers should focus on increasing both the emotional and socialbond to their stores while offering quality merchandise at affordable prices.

Metastatic paraganglioma treatment options are limited. Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) has been introduced as a novel management option for metastatic neuroendocrine tumors demonstrating safety, efficacy, and increased quality of life.We present two cases of marked progression of metastatic paraganglioma following initial partial response to PRRT. Given their positivity on 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT and 111In-octreotide SPECT, they underwent PRRT. Imaging following treatment revealed significant improvement in size and intensity, with some foci nearly completely resolved in one patient, and disease regression with a decrease in the number and size of bone and liver lesions in the second patient.Within months, repeat imaging in both patients revealed extensive metastatic disease with new lesions, which eventually lead to their deaths. The mechanism for rapid disease progression after partial response is not well understood, although it could be related to initially high Ki-67 levels or 18F-FDG PET/CT SUVmax values. However, naturally rapid disease progression despite PRRT response cannot be excluded. This finding warrants the importance of proper patient counseling along with early and accurate pre-PRRT assessment, taking into consideration the above potential risk factors for therapy response in order to personalize treatment regimens and achieve maximum patient benefit.

Background: Educators in all disciplines recognize the need to update tools for the modern learner. Mobile applications (apps) may be useful, but real-time data is needed to demonstrate the patterns of utilization and engagement amongst learners. Methods: We examined the use of an anesthesia app by two groups of learners (residents and anesthesiologist assistant students [AAs]) during a pediatric anesthesiology rotation. The app calculates age and weight-based information for clinical decision support and contains didactic materials for self-directed learning. The app transmitted detailed usage information to our research team. Results: Over a 12-month period, 39 participants consented; 30 completed primary study procedures (18 residents, 12 AAs). AAs used the app more frequently than residents (P = 0.025) but spent less time in the app (P < 0.001). The median duration of app usage was 2.3 minutes. During the course of the rotation, usage of the app decreased over time. ‘Succinylcholine’ was the most accessed drug, while ‘orientation’ was the most accessed teaching module. Ten (33%) believed that the use of apps was perceived to be distracting by operating room staff and surgeons. Conclusions: Real-time in-app analytics helped elucidate the actual usage of this educational resource and will guide future decisions regarding development and educational content. Further research is required to determine learners’ preferred choice of device, user experience, and content in the full range of clinical and nonclinical purposes.
Emotion Socialization by Early Childhood Educators: Conceptual Models from Psychology
Katherine M. Kitzmann,Katianne M. Howard 환태평양유아교육연구학회 2011 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhoo Vol.5 No.1
Early childhood educators play an important role in helping children to understand and to express emotions. In this paper we highlight the small number of studies in the U.S. concerning the goals and strategies of early childhood educators with respect to emotion socialization, and provide personal observations of emotion socialization practices in two preschools in Hong Kong (PRC) and Memphis (USA). We then propose a conceptual model that integrates LeVine’s work in cultural anthropology with psychological research on emotion socialization. In this model, adults share a universal goal that children develop emotional competence (i.e., skills for emotion expression, knowledge, and regulation), and this goal is achieved through universal processes (namely, through adults’ responses to emotions, modeling, emotion conversations, and meta-emotion philosophies). However, these universal processes are enacted through practices that are culture-specific. This conceptual model provides a useful heuristic for examining early childhood educators’ emotion socialization practices across cultural contexts.

There are few academic studies that focus on the importance of location in the study abroad program. This paper aims to make connections between the study abroad program and geography and provide appropriate frameworks for the study abroad program in geographical context. In order to explain the role of locations in the study abroad program, we critically examined existing frameworks based on sets of dichotomy, such as global-local, urban-rural and familiar-less familiar location. Even though dichotomies could serve as a base upon which to build a new, more appropriate framework, a dichotomous framework itself is not the best approach for further research. The dichotomous understanding of the study abroad destination has failed to accommodate locality, sense of place and networks among places that are pivotal in understanding a place in a global context. We found that location can in fact play a key role in an institution? study abroad programming and the level of immersion and learning outcomes. It is imperative to incorporate the insight of geography on the understanding of place and conduct more research for the success of study abroad programs. To examine the role of location and the strategy to tune the programs to study abroad destination, the programs of Alveno College are introduced and analyzed.
