Skeletal muscle metastasis from carcinoma cervix: a case report
Gunaseelan Karunanithi,Pooja Sethi,K S Sathyanarayana Reddy,P Reddy Rani 대한부인종양학회 2010 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.21 No.3
Cervical cancer is the most common malignancy in Indian women. Cervical cancer usually spread by local extension and through the lymphatics to the retroperitoneal lymph nodes. Direct invasion of muscles by primary growth is more common than by metastatic involvement. We present a case of carcinoma of the cervix post radiotherapy to pelvis who on follow up presented with biceps muscle metastases as the initial sign of disseminated disease.

Recipients of renal transplant are at increased risk ofdeveloping various malignancies, especially post-transplantlymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) and skin cancers. Neuroendocrine tumours (NET) of the gastrointestinal tracthave not been reported in this setting. Here we describe thecase of a 75-year-old male who had undergone renal transplant8 years back and now presented with significant weight lossand backache, clinically suspected as PTLD. 18FFluordeoxyglucose(18F-FDG) positron emission tomographycomputedtomography (PET-CT) showed hypermetabolic lesionsin the liver and rectum, raising the suspicion of PTLD. However, biopsy from the liver lesion showed poorly differentiatedNET. 68Ga-labelled [1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid]-1-NaI3-octreotide (68Ga-DOTANOC) PET-CT was then done, which confirmed theprimary lesion in the rectum with liver metastases.

Ginsenosides and withanolides are the secondary metabolites from Panax ginseng and Withania somnifera, respectively. These compounds have similar biological properties. Two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) analysis was utilized to reveal the protein profile in the roots of both plants, with the aim of clarifying similarly- and differentially-expressed proteins. Total proteins of Korea ginseng (P. ginseng) and Indian ginseng (W. somnifera) roots were separated by 2-DE using a pH 4-7 immobilized pH gradient strip in the first dimension and 12% sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the second dimension. The protein spots were visualized by silver staining. Twenty-one P. ginseng proteins and 35 W. somnifera proteins were chosen for identification by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry; of these, functions were ascribed to 14 and 22 of the P. ginseng and W. somnifera proteins, respectively. Functions mainly included general cell metabolism, defense and secondary metabolism. ATPase and alcohol dehydrogenase proteins were expressed in both plants. The results of this study, to our knowledge, are the first to provide a reference 2-DE map for the W. somnifera root proteome, and will aid in the understanding of the expression and functions of proteins in the roots of Korean ginseng and Indian ginseng.

This paper is concerned with the existence of mild solutions for partial neutral functional integrodifferential equations with infinite delay in Banach spaces. The results are obtained by using resolvent operators and Krasnoselski-Schaefer type fixed point theorem. An example is provided to illustrate the results.

Data on 2,365 Mecheri sheep (1,201 males and 1,164 females), maintained at the Mecheri Sheep Research Station, Pottaneri, India, and recorded between 1979 and 2006, were analysed to study the growth related traits and their genetic control. The body weights at different ages (i.e. at birth, weaning (3 months), 6, 9 and 12 months) were recorded and collected from the birth and growth registers maintained in the farm. The average weights of Mecheri sheep at birth, and at 12 months of age were $2.24{\pm}0.01$ and $16.81{\pm}0.15$ kg respectively. The pre- and post-weaning average daily weight gains were $63.84{\pm}0.75$ and $29.52{\pm}0.43$ g respectively. Study revealed a significant difference with the period of lambing on body weight, weight gain and efficiency in weight gain at different stages of growth. Males were heavier and had a higher weight gain than females at almost all stages of growth and the differences tended to increase with age. The direct heritability estimates increased from birth to six months of age and then decreased. The direct heritabilities of all body weights at different stages of growth were low to moderate in magnitude and the values at birth, weaning, six, nine and 12 months of age were 0.08, 0.17, 0.21, 0.13 and 0.10 respectively. For the estimation of heritability at birth and three months body weights, the direct additive genetic and maternal additive genetic effects have to be taken into account and for the estimation of six months weight, the direct additive genetic and maternal permanent environmental effects have to be included in the model. The estimates of heritability, phenotypic and genetic correlations among the different body weights indicated that the selection for improving the body weights at different traits should be done on the basis of three or six months weight because of higher heritability estimates and having higher genetic correlations with other traits.
