Purpose : This study evaluated the impact of the presence and aspect of mandibular third molars to the mandible angle fracture or condyle fractures in Korean. Materials and Methods : A retrospective study was designed for patients attending the division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Kang-dong sacred heart hospital for treatment of mandibular fracture from January 2006 to September 2010. The primary variable was the presence of mandibular third molar and the secondary variable was the aspects of third molar impaction. Mandibular third molars were classified by the impaction depth and the available space as Pell & Gregory system. Outcome variables were the presence of mandibular angle fracture or condyle fracture. Also the source of trauma, age, sex were studied. Hospital charts, radiographs were used for study. Statistic analysis was done with descriptive statistics, the X2-test, linear-bylinear association. P value under 0.05 was considered significant statistically. Results : The number of involved patients was 86. The ratio of male to female patients was about 9:1 for angle fracture and 7:3 for condyle fracture. The most common source of trauma was assault for angle fracture and fall down for condyle fracture. The presence of mandibular third molar increased frequency of angle fracture and decreased condyle fracture with larger impaction depth. But available space of mandibular third molar did not show high association with angle or condyle fractures. Conclusion : Preventive extraction of mandibular third molar is recommended for patients with high risk of angle fracture. Male patients at their third decade or martial artists, police officer could be the case. But it is not recommended for patients with low risk of angle fracture and high risk of condyle fracture relatively. Elder female patients without any symptom on their third molar could be the case.

The present study investigated the habitats of Korean fir trees (Abies koreana E. H. Wilson) on Mt. Baekwun (Baekwun-san), determined the current distribution, quantified the contribution of biological and nonbiological environmental factors affecting the distribution, derived actual and potential habitats, presented a plan for the establishment of protected areas, applied RCP 8.5 climate change scenario to analyze the effects of climate change on the future distribution of Korean fir trees, and predicted future potential habitats. According to the results of the study, 3,325 Korean fir trees (DBH >= 2.5 cm) inhabited Mt. Baekwun, and their distribution area was approximately 150 ha. Populations of Korean fir trees were confirmed to exist at an altitude of 900 m above sea level and were distributed up to 1,200 m. Based on potential distribution, areas appropriate for habitation by Korean fir trees were analyzed to be 450 ha, three times the current distribution area, with a focus on Sang Peak (Sang-bong), Eokbul Peak (Eokbul-bong), Ddari Peak (Ddari-bong), and Dosol Peak (Dosol-bong). The forest stands near Sang Peak, the main peak, were evaluated as those with the most appropriate potential for the habitation of Korean fir trees, and populations of the trees tended to prefer the northern slope rather than the southern slope. When climate change scenario RCP 8.5 was applied and future potential distribution was analyzed, the habitats were expected to decrease in area to 20 ha by 2050, with a focus on Sang Peak, and areas appropriate for habitation were predicted not to exist by 2080. Judging from such results, as global warming accelerates, the habitats of Korean fir trees are clearly expected to move from lowlands to highlands.

To construct transfurmed Bm5 cells, Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus(AcNPV) IE1 gene, an immediate early viral gene was firstly used in this study. AcNPV IE1 gene, which shares on 95.3% nucleotide sequence homology with Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV) IE1 gene, was isolated and cloned into pBluescript. Neomycin gene from pKO-neo was inserted under the control of the IE1 promoter to yield pAcIE1-neo. The plasmid pAcIE1-neo was transfected into Bm5 or Sf9 cells, and neomycin-resistant cells were selected in TC100 medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and 1 mg/ml G4l8 for two weeks. Individual clones were picked and each was amplified for further characterization. The genomic DNA from neomycin-resistant cells was isolated and characterized by PCR using AcNPV IEI gene-specific primers and by Southern blot analysis using neomycin gene probe. We concluded that AcNPV IE1 gene was functional in B. mori-derived Bm5 cells as well as Spodoptera fugjprrda-derived Sf9 cells to produce stably-transformed insect cells

Sung-jo Yun,Tae-young Choi,Jin-Hyung Park,Sung-hun Kang,Sharly Joana Halder,Joon-goo Park 대한전자공학회 2008 ICEIC:International Conference on Electronics, Inf Vol.1 No.1
There are many dangerous elements in industrial field. Many works are exposed to the danger. Therefore, industrial field has need of disaster prevention system. In this paper, we propose a disaster prevention system for preventing accidents which can occur in industrial field. A disaster prevention system consists of monitoring system, sensing system and kiosk station and information terminal. Monitoring system manages an industrial field and it transmits information in the worker. Sensing system detects the disaster elements using temperature, flame, smoke, wind direction, wind velocity and infrared ray sensor. Kiosk station controls entrance admission to workplace. It provides field information to worker. Information terminal provides field information, worker location and facility records. To prevent accidents in industrial field, they support safety control strategy that provides overall information on various multi misfortune situations.

Carbon dioxide capture and sequestration (CCS) is a promising alternative for reduction of greenhouse gas emission. However, injected CO2 in deep formation has potential to leak into a shallow aquifer. Thus, although it is challenging, development of detection technologies in a shallow aquifer region is essential to assure the long term safety of a CCS project. Recently, field scale experiments were carried out around the world to identify CO2 leakage and to investigate effects on groundwater quality in shallow aquifers. From the literature, 8 controlled CO2 release test sites and 9 experimental cases were identified. In those sites, CO2 was artificially injected around the shallow aquifer region as CO2-infused groundwater phase or gas phase for identifying environmental effects caused by CO2 injection. This paper reviews the hydraulic heterogeneity, mineral compositions, monitoring systems, and environmental parameters required for leakage detection at each site. For constructing a controlled test bed, inclined wells, horizontal wells, and multiple injection wells were identified as reliable injection components. It was also identified that the injected CO2 migration and its effects were monitored through the constructed monitoring networks. The previous operation cases show that continuous monitoring of pH, electrical conductivity (EC), Ca and Mg concentrations is the most basic and important factor for leakage detection. Trace elements and isotopes were also widely used to determine the CO2 leakage. The Korea CO2 Storage Environmental Management (K-COSEM) research center is going to construct an environmental impact test (EIT) facility for developing CO2 leakage detection methods in a shallow aquifer region in Korea. The challenging issues will include the fate and transport of CO2 from the fractured zone to the saturated zone and to the unsaturated soil. Based on the lessons learned from the previous tests, environmental monitoring technologies will be developed through the analysis of the time series data of hydrogeochemical parameters for the planned EIT facility in Korea.

Abstract

Here, we prepare a bimetallic CuFe–N–C catalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) by annealing metal precursor-adsorbed polyaniline under an NH3 gas atmosphere at high temperature. The catalyst exhibits higher ORR activity and durability than Pt/C and other monometallic Cu (Fe)–N–C catalysts in 0.1M KOH. The remarkable catalytic activity of the CuFe–N–C catalyst is due to the interaction between Cu and Fe, which facilitates ORR and also results in higher contents of total N and active N species. In the same vein, single cell using the CuFe–N–C catalyst exhibits greatly enhanced performance compared to those using other catalysts.

Highlights

CuFe–N–C catalyst was prepared by annealing metal precursors-adsorbed polyaniline.

CuFe–N–C catalysts showed excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity.

Interaction between Cu and Fe results in higher N content and active N species.

Single cell with CuFe–N–C catalyst exhibited much enhanced performance than others.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Geometric error correction of convergent multi-view images
Yun-Suk Kang,Yo-Sung Ho IET 2015 Electronics letters Vol.51 No.7

A geometric error correction of convergent multi-view images is proposed. Shape factors and camera parameters of the captured multi-view image are used to estimate an ideal multi-camera arrangement and its camera parameters. A correction transform of each viewpoint to reduce the geometric error is calculated based on the original and estimated camera parameters. The error-corrected multi-view image is obtained by applying the transform to the captured images. The experimental results show that the proposed method efficiently reduces the geometric error of the convergent multi-view images.
