      • 키넥트를 활용한 요가 학습 콘텐츠

        이주원(Joowon Lee),오경수(Kyungsoo Oh) 한국HCI학회 2012 한국HCI학회 학술대회 Vol.2012 No.1

Kinect is a motion reading sensor that has a infrared camera inside. Recent individual developers and research institutes tries to escape from the existing Xbox 360 console game controller and made attempts to widen the PC linkage so that there could be various areas by using Kinect. But programs made by a minority of common developers are still in the process of testing and experimental research. This paper introduces a yoga learning program "Kin Yoga" with the kind of background that was mentioned earlier. This program, which combines with Kinect, has an interface that uses gestures that mainly focus on the hands and body. And also this program provides information whether the motion is correct/incorrect from the tutorial, and also about the wrong part of the motion to the user so that the user can learn yoga more effectively. Developing this program mainly focuses of making Kinect more widely used in everyday life and from now on expects a lot of Kinetic programs that are developed from various areas.

Genetic Spectrum of UGT1A1 in Korean Patients with Unconjugated Hyperbilirubinemia

        김진주,Joowon Oh,Yoonjung Kim,Kyung-A Lee 대한진단검사의학회 2020 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.40 No.3

Dear Editor, Uridine diphosphate-glucuronosyltransferase 1A (UGT1A1), an enzyme encoded by the UGT1A1 gene on chromosome 2q37, is the major bilirubin-conjugating enzyme [1, 2]. Variants in the promoter and coding regions of UGT1A1 affect the enzyme activity of UGT1A1, leading to unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia disorders, including Gilbert syndrome (GS), Crigler-Najjar syndrome type I (CNI), and Crigler-Najjar syndrome type II (CNII). Variant frequencies show inter-ethnic differences [3, 4]. Reports on the spectrum of variants in Korean patients with hyperbilirubinemia are limited thus far; they are mostly based on a small number of patients evaluating a few mutational hotspots [5, 6]. We retrospectively investigated the spectrum of UGT1A1 variation in a larger study population to examine the allele distribution in Korean patients with unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia.

Human Mastadenovirus Infections and Meteorological Factors in Cheonan, Korea

        ( Eun Ju Oh ),( Joowon Park ),( Jae Kyung Kim ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2021 한국미생물·생명공학회지 Vol.49 No.2

The study of the impact of weather on viral respiratory infections enables the assignment of causality to disease outbreaks caused by climatic factors. A better understanding of the seasonal distribution of viruses may facilitate the development of potential treatment approaches and effective preventive strategies for respiratory viral infections. We analyzed the incidence of human mastadenovirus infection using real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in 9,010 test samples obtained from Cheonan, South Korea, and simultaneously collected the weather data from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2018. We used the data collected on the infection frequency to detect seasonal patterns of human mastadenovirus prevalence, which were directly compared with local weather data obtained over the same period. Descriptive statistical analysis, frequency analysis, t-test, and binomial logistic regression analysis were performed to examine the relationship between weather, particulate matter, and human mastadenovirus infections. Patients under 10 years of age showed the highest mastadenovirus infection rates (89.78%) at an average monthly temperature of 18.2℃. Moreover, we observed a negative correlation between human mastadenovirus infection and temperature, wind chill, and air pressure. The obtained results indicate that climatic factors affect the rate of human mastadenovirus infection. Therefore, it may be possible to predict the instance when preventive strategies would yield the most effective results.

Performance Evaluation of Body Fluid Cellular Analysis Using the Beckman Coulter UniCel DxH 800, Sysmex XN-350, and UF-5000 Automated Cellular Analyzers

        Jooyoung Cho,Joowon Oh,Sang-Guk Lee,You-Hee Lee,Jaewoo Song,Jeong-HoKim 대한진단검사의학회 2020 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.40 No.2

Background: Automated cellular analyzers are expected to improve the analytical performance in body fluid (BF) analysis. We evaluated the analytical performance of three automated cellular analyzers and established optimum reflex analysis guidelines. Methods: A total of 542 BF samples (88 cerebrospinal fluid [CSF] samples and 454 non-CSF samples) were examined using manual counting and three automated cellular analyzers: UniCel DxH 800 (Beckman Coulter), XN-350 (Sysmex), and UF-5000 (Sysmex). Additionally, 2,779 BF analysis results were retrospectively reviewed. For malignant cell analysis, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used, and the detection of high fluorescence-BF cells (HF-BFs) using the XN-350 analyzer was compared with cytology results. Results: All three analyzers showed good agreement for total nucleated cell (TNC) and red blood cell (RBC) counts, except for the RBC count in CSF samples using the UniCel DxH 800. However, variable degrees of differences were observed during differential cell counting. For malignant cell analysis, the area under the curve was 0.63 for the XN-350 analyzer and 0.76 for manual counting. We established our own reflex analysis guidelines as follows: HF-BFs <0.7/100 white blood cells (WBCs) is the criterion for quick scans with 100× magnification microscopic examination as a rule-out cut-off, while HF-BFs >83.4/100 WBCs or eosinophils >3.8% are the criteria for mandatory double check confirmation with 1,000× magnification examination. Conclusions: The three automated analyzers showed good analytical performances. Application of reflex analysis guidelines is recommended for eosinophils and HF-BFs, and manual confirmation is warranted.

Effects of dietary protease on immune responses of weaned pigs

        ( Jeong Jae Lee ),( Joowon Kang ),( Sangwoo Park ),( Jin Ho Cho ),( Sejong Oh ),( Dong-jun Park ),( Rider Perez-maldonado ),( Jee-yeon Cho ),( Il-hun Park ),( Hyeun Bum Kim ),( Minho Song ) 한국축산학회(구 한국동물자원과학회) 2020 한국축산학회지 Vol.62 No.2

This experiment was conducted to investigate effects of dietary protease on immune responses of weaned pigs. Weaned pigs (n = 75; 7.06 ± 0.18 kg BW; 28 d old) were randomly assigned to 3 treatments (5 pigs/pen; 5 pens/treatment). Dietary treatments were positive control, a diet with required protein level (PC), negative control, a diet with lower protein level than PC (NC), and NC + 0.02% dietary protease (PRO). The dietary protease used in this experiment was a commercial product containing 75,000 protease units/g derived from Nocardiopsis prasina produced in Bacillus licheniformis. The dietary treatments did not contain any ingredients or additives that may provide antibacterial or physiological effects. Pigs were fed respective dietary treatments for 6 weeks. Blood was collected from randomly selected 2 pigs in each pen on d 1, 3, 7, and 14 after weaning. Measurements were number of white blood cells (WBC), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), and C-reactive protein (CRP). Pigs fed PRO had lower WBC on d 7 (14.84 vs 20.42 × 103/ μL; p < 0.05) and TNF-α on d 7 (618 vs 889 pg/mL; p = 0.085) and 14 (437 vs 576 pg/mL; p = 0.069) than those fed NC, but there were no differences on WBC and TNF-α between PC and PRO. Pigs fed PRO had lower TGF-β1 on d 3 (630 vs. 1,588 and 1,396 pg/mL; p < 0.05) than those fed PC and NC. However, no differences were found on CRP among dietary treatments. In conclusion, addition of dietary protease reduced inflammatory immune responses of weaned pigs.

Characterization of human cardiac mesenchymal stromal cells and their extracellular vesicles comparing with human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells

( In Sook Kang ),( Joowon Suh ),( Mi-ni Lee ),( Chaeyoung Lee ),( Jing Jin ),( Changjin Lee ),( Young Il Yang ),( Yangsoo Jang ),( Goo Taeg Oh ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2020 BMB Reports Vol.53 No.2

Cardiac regeneration with adult stem-cell (ASC) therapy is a promising field to address advanced cardiovascular diseases. In addition, extracellular vesicles (EVs) from ASCs have been implicated in acting as paracrine factors to improve cardiac functions in ASC therapy. In our work, we isolated human cardiac mesenchymal stromal cells (h-CMSCs) by means of three-dimensional organ culture (3D culture) during ex vivo expansion of cardiac tissue, to compare the functional efficacy with human bone-marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (h-BM-MSCs), one of the actively studied ASCs. We characterized the h-CMSCs as CD90low, c-kitnegative, CD105positive phenotype and these cells express NANOG, SOX2, and GATA4. To identify the more effective type of EVs for angiogenesis among the different sources of ASCs, we isolated EVs which were derived from CMSCs with either normoxic or hypoxic condition and BM-MSCs. Our in vitro tube-formation results demonstrated that the angiogenic effects of EVs from hypoxia-treated CMSCs (CMSC-Hpx EVs) were greater than the well-known effects of EVs from BM-MSCs (BM-MSC EVs), and these were even comparable to human vascular endothelial growth factor (hVEGF), a potent angiogenic factor. Therefore, we present here that CD90lowc-kitnegativeCD105positive CMSCs under hypoxic conditions secrete functionally superior EVs for in vitro angiogenesis. Our findings will allow more insights on understanding myocardial repair. [BMB Reports 2020; 53(2): 118-123]

A Case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) with Acute Myocarditis

        Lim Jin Gyu,Lee Da Hye,Oh Kyung Jin,Choi Sujin,Song Young Hwan,Lee Joowon,Lee Hyunju 대한소아감염학회 2021 Pediatric Infection and Vaccine Vol.28 No.3

After initial reports of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) in April 2020 in Europe, this disease has been known to occur in children with recent history of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and most cases have been reported in Europe and the Unites States of America. We report a case of a 14-year-old girl who was diagnosed with MIS-C with acute myocarditis and successfully treated with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), methylprednisolone, and anakinra. At initial presentation, she had persistent high fever, generalized rash, generalized swelling, abdominal pain, and low blood pressure. She showed a remarkably elevated level of inflammation and cardiac enzyme markers and had a previous history of COVID-19 5 weeks before the initial presentation. After extensive work up, other infectious and non-infectious causes were excluded. She was diagnosed with MIS-C and initially treated with IVIG and high-dose methylprednisolone; however, despite treatment, her heart function deteriorated and coronary artery dilatation progressed. Therefore, anakinra, an interleukin-1 receptor antagonist, was administered on hospital day 6, after which her cardiac function exhibited improvement. She was discharged on hospital day 19 without any symptoms, and follow-up echocardiography after 1 month revealed fully recovered heart function with normal coronary arteries.

      • Immunomodulatory activity of <i>Lactobacillus</i> strains isolated from fermented vegetables and infant stool

        Won, Tae Joon,Kim, Bongjoon,Oh, Eun Seul,Bang, Joon Seok,Lee, Yoon Jeong,Yoo, Jong-Sun,Yu, Hyunmin,Yoon, Joowon,Hyung, Kyeong Eun,Park, So-Young,Hwang, Kwang Woo Canadian Science Publishing 2011 Canadian journal of physiology and pharmacology Vol.89 No.6

<P> Four Lactobacillus strains - Lactobacillus plantarum CJLP133, L. plantarum CJLP243, L. plantarum CJNR26, and Lactobacillus gasseri CJMF3 - were isolated from Korean fermented food or healthy infant feces, and their capacity to modulate cellular and humoral immune responses was studied. Feeding of the tested lactobacilli for 8 weeks did not alter the weight of and cell numbers in the spleen of mice. However, CJLP133 and CJLP243 strains increased the T lymphocyte population in the spleen of mice, while CJNR26 and CJMF3 increased the B lymphocyte population. In splenocytes treated with concanavalin A, ingestion of CJLP133 and CJLP243 promoted T lymphocyte proliferation and secretion of T cell cytokines, whereas feeding of the CJNR26 and CJMF3 strains enhanced B lymphocyte proliferation in splenocytes treated with lipopolysaccharide and plaque formation. These results suggest that CJLP133 and CJLP243 have immunostimulating activity through the enhancement of T cell activation, while CJNR26 and CJMF3 exhibit immunopotentiation through the increment of B cell activation. </P>
