        Validity of Using Text-Based Online Chat for Error Analyses

          This paper examines the use of English determiners in chat with the focus on determiner-related errors. For this, the comparisons were made in the use of determiners between chat and the grammatical judgment test, which was followed by the investigation of the role of task type on the determiner use in chat. The results show that deletions of determiners are significantly more common in the meaning-focused activity (i.e. chat), and that students commit more errors in the form-focused activity (i.e. the grammatical judgment test). It was also found that task type was a significant factor to cause the difference in the frequency of determiners, implying that the convergent task might be more appropriate to use to look at students’ competence regarding determiner use than the divergent task. However, the overall ratio of deletions was so high that it seems to be hard for researchers to obtain the precise picture of learners’ developmental state through the chat transcript.

        Enhancing Korean Students' Use of English Phrasal Verbs

        English phrasal verbs are difficult for non-Germanic language speakers to learn; as non-Germanic languages contain no phrasal verbs. According to Smidowicz (1997), phrasal verbs are familiar, personal, and friendly to native speakers of English, whereas they are unfamiliar, impersonal, and unfriendly to non-native speakers. The current study explored a way to help Korean participants aware of the use of phrasal verbs with the help of textual enhancement. The pretest, posttest and control group design was employed with 30 Korean students. The results show that the experimental group chose phrasal verbs more in their posttest than the control group, which may suggest the positive effect of textual enhancement. However, it is possible that there was an intervening variable involved in this research. Despite the methodological limitation, this study suggests a positive pedagogical implication for Korean EFL students' ability to learn of phrasal verbs.

        노동입법의 국회심사과정에서 당사자들의 협상행태와 정책적 함의

        This study aims at looking the roles and activities of the related parties in the legislative process of the labor Acts to protect on working hours and non-regular workers, such as fixed-term and part time workers, dispatched workers. To look at the above, this study mainly focused on the conditions, the structure and strategies, the results of the bargaining process of the Acts, based on the bargaining theory. Relating to the conditions, the main issues and bargaining parties have been changed during the deliberation of the acts. In relation to the structure of the bargaining, the committee members had the initiative to negotiate one another compared to the old days when the committee members tried to abide by the orders and guidelines of the central party. Each party had the posture to attain its own interest as a usual in the begaining but changed its original position based on the issues. Each party deliberated the Acts without throughly reviewing the impacts of the acts in advance. Policy implications are as follows: The committee members as the negotiating parties bargained the acts with considerable autonomy compared to the past. This means the legislature played an important role in resolving the conflict of the society through democratic procedure. In addition, the different environment and legislative structure of the deliberation process influenced the legislative members and the contents of the acts. As a result, the acts were modified to be favorable for the labor union circles compared to the original version. To further more consensus-based result in the legislative process, it is desirable for the committee to introduce tripatite negotiation system based on voluntray participation of the related parties before the authoritative rule making. In addition, in the process of the authoritative rule making, the committee has to try to filter diverse point of view of the parties instead of depending on mere majority rule making

        동영상과 비대면 실시간 혼합 영어 수업에 대한 대학생들의 인식: Nearpod를 활용한 소통 및 참여를 중심으로

        With the purpose to explore the optimal online English class model, this study examined students’ perception on video and untact realtime hybrid classes. Participants numbered 146 students from three different English courses at a university in South Korea. Classes were composed of four modules, each consisting of two video and one untact realtime class sessions. During the untact realtime class session, Nearpod was used as the main platform to enhance students’ communication and participation. At the end of the semester, students completed a written survey regarding their perception on each of the video and untact realtime classes as well as overall management. The results showed the students were satisfied with each of the class sessions and overall management, while no significant differences were found between class, year, or sex. The results also showed the deactivation of cameras did not affect their perception during the video sessions, while registering a positive effect in the untact realtime class sessions. Their favorite online class structure was found to be a video and untact realtime hybrid class model as the one used in the current study. The findings suggest that Nearpod can provide pedagogical benefits under systematic organization within and between online sessions.
