This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of superovulation on the ovarian response and embryo production of young and matured heifers. The possibility of mon-surgical recovery from the young heifers and transfer of recovered embryos to the mature recipients was also investigated. A total of 8 heifers(5 heads of Holstein, 2 Heads of Korean Native Cattle(KNC)and one head of Angus×Hereford crossbreed)were devided into 2 groups by their age. Young heifers(Group I)were 7∼10 months old and mature heifers(Group II)were 12∼18 months old. Group I and II were superovulated with muscular injection of 1,000 or 2,000 IU Pregnant Mare's Serum Gonadotrophin(PMSG)on day 10∼12 of estrus cycle followed by muscular injecion of 25mg Prostaglandin F ₂α(PGF₂α) 48 hours later. Heifers were artificially inseminated or copulated 2∼3 times with the interval of 12 hours while they were in heat. The embryos were collected non-surgically on day 6 of estrus cycle. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows: 1. The average number of corpus lutea(CL) by the superovulation treatment was much greater in Group 11(9.2)than in Group 1(3.2) 2. The average number of unruptured follicles by the superovulation treatment was much greater in Group II(6.8)than Group I(1.0) 3. The interval to onset of estrus after PGF₂αinjection was longer in Group I(44.2 hours)than in Group II(31.8 hours).

The $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films with the various content ratio ranging from 0 to 0.4 were prepared by sol-gel spincoating method. To investigate the effects of content ratio on the structural and optical properties of the $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and photoluminescence (PL) were carried out. With increase in the content ratio, the grain size of the $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films was increased, however, at the content ratio above 0.2, MgO particles with cubic structure were formed on the surface of the $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films, indicating that the Mg content exceeded its solubility limit in the thin films. The residual stress of the $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films is increased with increase in the Mg mole fraction. In the PL investigations, the bandgap and the activation energy of the $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films was increased with the Mg mole fraction.

Plant biomass is a huge carbon-complex that has potential as a nutrient. Therefore we extracted and separated useful materials for plant growth from tea leaf and stem. The pre-treatment process including high temperature ($200^{\circ}C$) and pressure (20-40 kgf/$cm^2$) was treated for several minutes and extracted at $120^{\circ}C$ for 30-60 minutes. After that the chemical compositions and ingredients were analyzed from that plant-nutrient. As a result of mineral contents, calcium and magnesium concentrations are higher than other minerals. Also the result of carbohydrates analyses has shown that the sugar oligomer consists of xylose(95.3%) and glucose(4.7%), and the sugar monomer consists in the order of xylose (52.7%) > manose (22.8%) > arabinose (10.8%) > galactose (10.2%) > glucose (3.5%). Before applied to field, in vitro plant growth system and formulation were examined. To evaluate the effect of the nutrients, both strawberry green-house and persimmon fields were used in this test. The treated persimmons were heavier than controls scored at 13-22%. In addition, the storage-period was extended in the treated strawberries. Interestingly in the treated strawberry, the contents of polyphenols were increased (38-57%). These results suggest that the plant-nutrient can afford to help for plant growth and storage, and it can be substituted for other commercial nutrients. In conclusion, this plant-nutrient may help to extend eco-friendly or organic farming in Hadong-gun area.

This study examined the motility of either the unattached(upper) or attached(lower) Hanwoo sperm to bovine oviduct epithelial cell(BOEC) monolayers to determine whether there are any changes in their motility during co-culture. The cleavage and blastocyst development rate were compared among different preincubation methods in-vitro, after oocytes were fertilized in-vitro with Hanwoo sperm on BOEC monolayers. The motility of frozen-thawed sperm in BOEC co-culture group was significantly higher than controls, especially at 5 hours and 6 hours (p<0.05) of incubation, in sperm treatment medium without heparin and caffeine. The motility of frozen-thawed sperm in BOEC co-culture group was significantly higher than controls, especially at 3 hours (p<0.05) and 6 hours (p<0.01), in sperm treatment medium containing heparin and caffeine. The motility of the attached( lower) sperm was significantly higher than the unattached(upper) sperm during co-culture with BOEC at all times(p<0.01 or p<0.05), except for 6 hours. After Hanwoo oocytes were fertilized in-vitro with the sperm that had been co-cultured with BOEC in sperm treatment medium containing heparin and caffeine, we determined the cleavage and blastocyst development rate, according to the preincubation methods. Both the cleavage and blastocyst development rate from 2 hour preincubation group were the highest, but significant difference was not recognized. These results show that BOEC plays an important role on sperm hyperactivation related to capacitation regardless of heparin and caffeine in sperm treatment medium. However, oviduct epithelial cell had no significant effect on the development of embryos after in-vitro fertilization in the presence of added heparin and caffeine in sperm treatment medium.

N/A Extended light illumination by street lamp and automobile light has provoked problem in farmland. Night break was imposed by incandescent lamp (50~60 lux) for 10 minutes every three hours during 12 hours dark period increased culm length compared to continuous dark of 12 hours, and decreased the number of grains per spike in rice. However, these characters were increased by 12 hours dark period with and without night break as compared to 9 hours continuous dark condition. Compared to 12 hours continuous dark condition, night break delayed heading by 9 and 26 days and 9 hours continuous dark condition delayed it by 47 and 41 days in Ilpumbyeo and Hwaseongbyeo, respectively. Night break increased stem length and node number; while decreased pods of soybean cultivar Hwanggeumkong. The stem length and node number were increased by 9 hours continuous dark condition compared to 12 hours dark condition with and without night break. Compared to 12 hours continuous dark condition, night break delayed flowering by 4 days and to 9 hours continuous dark condition by 19 days.

<배경 및 목적> 기능성 위장질환 환자에 대한 치료방법을 객관적으로 평가하기 위해서는 환자의 임상양상을 정확히 반영하는 검증된 평가도구가 필요하다. 그러나 로마기준-II에서 기능성 소화불량증의 특징으로 기술되어 있는 증상들만으로는 기능성 소화불량증 환자의 임상양상을 정확히 평가하기는 어렵다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 국내에서 기능성 소화불량증 환자의 주관적 증상을 객관적으로 측정할 수 있는 증상평가 도구를 개발하고 이에 대한 타당성을 검증하는데 있다.
