Balancing antimicrobial performance with hemocompatibility in amphiphilic homopolymers
Zhu, Zhiyuan,Jeong, Gookyeong,Kim, Seung‐,Jin,Gadwal, Ikhlas,Choe, Youngson,Bang, Joona,Oh, Min‐,Kyu,Khan, Anzar,Rao, Jingyi John WileySons, Inc. 2018 Journal of polymer science Part A, Polymer chemist Vol.56 No.21

This work establishes amphiphilic polymethacrylates as new antimicrobial candidates that can be synthesized through a combination of controlled free radical polymerization and sequential postpolymerization modification protocols. When conjugated with a polyethylene glycol segment, the block copolymers exhibit a balanced performance between high antibacterial activity and high hemocompatibility.

Reliability Evaluation of Key Hydraulic Components for Actuators of FAST Based on Small Sample Test
Ming Zhu,Jingyi Zhao,Qiming Wang 한국정밀공학회 2017 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.18 No.11
The five-hundred meter aperture spherical radio telescope (FAST) is China’s major science and technology infrastructure project. Upon completion, this telescope will be considered the largest single-dish radio telescope in the world. As main active mechanism of FAST, 2225 hydraulic actuators are used for adjusting the reflectors. The reliability of hydraulic actuators is the most critical matter. This paper applies the reliability theory and reliability test method into large project for the first time. Firstly, a parallel energy-saving method and equipment to test the two components of the actuators for FAST are designed. Secondly, reliability model based on small sample test is used to perform the best linear unbiased estimation of the test data. Average impact lifetime of the sampled gear pump and the sampled relief valve in their working condition are calculated. Finally, the results show that the lifetime request of the sampled gear pump and the sampled relief valve for hydraulic actuator of FAST are satisfied. The research method has guiding significance to the reliability study of key hydraulic components for similar hydraulic systems.

We aimsto examine the determinants of visitors' positive word-of-mouth (WOM) in a web-based virtual reality contemporary art exhibition. We also examines the effects of 3 realms of experience (entertainment, esthetic, escapist) on emotional arousal, how this emotional arousal affects memory and positive word-of-mouth, how memory affects positive word-of-mouth and how age moderate all of the paths. We examined a total of 297 visitors and was conducted through an online survey focusing on Chinese users of ages 20-49. The analysis results showed that entertainment and esthetic have an effect on emotional arousal, but escapist did not. The results also showed emotional arousal has an effect on memory and positive WOM. Memory did not affect positive word-of-mouth. Finally, age has a moderate effect on all the paths, except for the path form escape towards emotional arousal and memory to positive word-of-mouth. The theoretical implications of this study are meaningful exhibition research. While, it also will be helpful to segment the web-based virtual reality art exhibition visitors by dividing into 3 groups (20s, 30s, 40s) and to provide marketing and operation strategies.

Regarding the novel application of nanoparticles in enhanced oil recovery, the objective of this study wasto investigate the potential of silica nanoparticles to stabilize foam under high-temperature conditionsand exhibit an improved capacity to suspend proppants for hydraulic fracturing applications. In thisstudy, a regular anionic surfactant was employed as the foaming agent and a worm-like micelle (WLM)surfactant was employed as the foam viscosifer and silica nanoparticles. The results indicate that the SiO2nanoparticles and WLMs exhibit a synergistic effect in terms of foam rheology and stability, whichsignificantly improves the proppant suspension capabilities for petroleum applications.
Proton Transfer Hydrogels: Versatility and Applications
Hwang, JiHyeon,Lee, Dong G.,Yeo, Hyunki,Rao, Jingyi,Zhu, Zhiyuan,Shin, Jawon,Jeong, Keunsoo,Kim, Sehoon,Jung, Hyun Wook,Khan, Anzar American Chemical Society 2018 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.140 No.21

Proton transfer polymerization between thiol and epoxide groups is shown to be an adaptable and utilitarian method for the synthesis of hydrogels. For instance, the polymerization catalyst can be organic or inorganic, and the polymerization medium can be pure water, buffer solutions, or organic solvents. The gelation mechanism can be triggered at ambient conditions, at a physiological temperature of 37 °C, or through using light as an external stimulus. The ambient and photochemical methods both allow for nanoimprint lithography to produce freestanding patterned thick films. The required thiol- and epoxide-carrying precursors can be chosen from a long list of commercially available small molecular as well as polymeric materials. The water uptake, mechanical, and biodegradation properties of the gels can, therefore, be tuned through the choice of appropriate gelation precursors and polymerization conditions. Finally, the thio-ether groups of the cross-linked networks can be functionalized through a postgelation modification reaction to access sulfonium-based cationic structures. Such structural changes endow antibacterial properties to the networks. In their pristine form, however, the gels are biocompatible and nonadhesive, allowing cancer cells to grow in a cluster formation.
[FIG OMISSION]
