Event-triggering Formation Control for Second-order Multi-agent Systems With Sampled Position Data

        Jing Liu,Zhen Li,Jia-Bao Liu,Jian-an Fang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2024 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.22 No.4

This paper addresses the problem of event-triggering formation control (ETFC) for second-order multiagent systems (MASs) with sampled position data. Firstly, two types of distributed control strategies based on the sampled position data are proposed to solve the observer-based formation control problems. These novel formation control strategies allow the event-triggering conditions to be intermittently examined at random sampling instants, where the data transmission is driven by an event-triggering control protocol. Under this framework, both timeinvariant and time-varying formation controls are considered. Then, based on the algebraic graph theory and matrix theory, some sufficient conditions are given to ensure that the second- order MASs achieve the specified formation shape. Finally, simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.

Sputum Metabolomic Profiling Reveals Metabolic Pathways and Signatures Associated With Inflammatory Phenotypes in Patients With Asthma

        Liu Ying,Zhang Xin,Zhang Li,Oliver Brian G,Wang Hong Guang,Liu Zhi Peng,Chen Zhi Hong,Wood Lisa,Hsu Alan Chen-Yu,Xie Min,McDonald Vanessa,Wan Hua Jing,Luo Feng Ming,Liu Dan,Li Wei Min,Wang Gang 대한천식알레르기학회 2022 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.14 No.4

Purpose: The molecular links between metabolism and inflammation that drive different inflammatory phenotypes in asthma are poorly understood. We aimed to identify the metabolic signatures and underlying molecular pathways of different inflammatory asthma phenotypes. Methods: In the discovery set (n = 119), untargeted ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) was applied to characterize the induced sputum metabolic profiles of asthmatic patients with different inflammatory phenotypes using orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), and pathway topology enrichment analysis. In the validation set (n = 114), differential metabolites were selected to perform targeted quantification. Correlations between targeted metabolites and clinical indices in asthmatic patients were analyzed. Logistic and negative binomial regression models were established to assess the association between metabolites and severe asthma exacerbations. Results: Seventy-seven differential metabolites were identified in the discovery set. Pathway topology analysis uncovered that histidine metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, nicotinate and nicotinamide metabolism, linoleic acid metabolism as well as phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis were involved in the pathogenesis of different asthma phenotypes. In the validation set, 24 targeted quantification metabolites were significantly expressed between asthma inflammatory phenotypes. Finally, adenosine 5′-monophosphate (adjusted relative risk [adj RR] = 1.000; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.000–1.000; P = 0.050), allantoin (adj RR = 1.000; 95% CI = 1.000–1.000; P = 0.043) and nicotinamide (adj RR = 1.001; 95% CI = 1.000–1.002; P = 0.021) were demonstrated to predict severe asthma exacerbation rates. Conclusions: Different inflammatory asthma phenotypes have specific metabolic profiles in induced sputum. The potential metabolic signatures may identify therapeutic targets in different inflammatory asthma phenotypes.

A Mutation in PGM2 Causing Inefficient Galactose Metabolism in the Probiotic Yeast Saccharomyces boulardii

        Liu, Jing-Jing,Zhang, Guo-Chang,Kong, In Iok,Yun, Eun Ju,Zheng, Jia-Qi,Kweon, Dae-Hyuk,Jin, Yong-Su American Society for Microbiology 2018 Applied and environmental microbiology Vol.84 No.10

IMPORTANCE Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic yeast strain capable of preventing and treating diarrheal diseases. However, the genetics and metabolism of this yeast are largely unexplored. In particular, molecular mechanisms underlying the inefficient galactose metabolism of S. boulardii remain unknown. Our study reports that a point mutation in PGM2, which codes for phosphoglucomutase, is responsible for inferior galactose utilization by S. boulardii. After correction of the mutated PGM2 via genome editing, the resulting strain was able to use galactose faster than a parental strain. While the PGM2 mutation made the yeast use galactose slowly, investigation of the genomic sequencing data of other S. boulardii strains revealed that the PGM2 mutation is evolutionarily conserved. Interestingly, the PGM2 mutation was beneficial for growth at a higher temperature on glucose. We speculate that the PGM2 mutation was enriched due to selection of S. boulardii in the natural habitat (sugar-rich fruits in tropical areas).

      • Analysis of Mammographic Breast Density in a Group of Screening Chinese Women and Breast Cancer Patients

        Liu, Jing,Liu, Pei-Fang,Li, Jun-Nan,Qing, Chun,Ji, Yu,Hao, Xi-Shan,Zhang, Xue-Ning Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: A dense breast not only reduces the sensitivity of mammography but also is a moderate independent risk factor for breast cancer. The percentage of Western women with fat breast tissue is higher aged 40 years or older. To a certain extent, mammography as a first choice of screening imaging method for Western women of this group is reasonable. Hitherto, the frequency and age distribution of mammographic breast density patterns among Chinese women had not been characterized. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency and age distribution of mammographic breast density patterns among a group of Chinese screening women and breast cancer patients in order to provide useful information for age-specific guidelines for breast cancer screening in Chinese women. Methods: A retrospective review of a total of 3,394 screening women between August and December 2009 and 2,527 breast cancer patients between July 2011 and June 2012 was conducted. Descriptive analyses were used to examine the association between age and breast density. The significance of differences of breast density between the screening women and the breast cancer patients was examined using nonparametric tests. Results: There was a significant inverse relationship between age and breast density overall (r=-0.37, p< 0.01). Breast density of the breast cancer patients in the subgroups of 40-49 years old was greater compared with that of the screening women, the same in those aged 50-54 years and in those 55 years old or older, less than in the screening group. Conclusions: With regard to the Chinese women younger than 55 years old, the diagnostic efficiency of breast cancer screening imaging examinations may be potentially improved by combining screening mammography with ultrasound.

Stability of Tunnel Face Reinforced by Bolts under Seepage Flow Conditions

Jing Liu,Lili Liu 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.2

This paper proposed a calculation method for bolts reinforcement of tunnel face under the seepage condition. The existence of seepage in tunnel engineering may greatly reduce the stability of tunnel face, and bolts reinforcement technology is widely used in traditional tunnel engineering. In this paper, a 3D rotational failure mechanism is proposed by the kinematics method combined with the discretization technique. The pore water pressure was added in the energy calculation based on the empirical distribution formula of water head. The interaction between soil and bolts is simulated by using a finite thickness interaction region. The method was compared with the published works in order to verify the effectiveness. The influence of the bolt length, the bolt strength, the hydraulic head size, the face height and the soil parameters are given in the form of some graph.

Immunomodulatory Properties of Lactobacillus plantarum NC8 Expressing an Anti-CD11c Single-Chain Fv Fragment

( Jing Liu ),( Guilian Yang ),( Xing Gao ),( Zan Zhang ),( Yang Liu ),( Xin Yang ),( Chunwei Shi ),( Qiong Liu ),( Yanlong Jiang ),( Chunfeng Wang ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2019 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.29 No.1

The lactic acid bacteria species Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) has been used extensively for vaccine delivery. Considering to the critical role of dendritic cells in stimulating host immune response, in this study, we constructed a novel CD11c-targeting L. plantarum strain with surface-displayed variable fragments of anti-CD11c, single-chain antibody (scFv-CD11c). The newly designed L. plantarum strain, named 409-aCD11c, could adhere and invade more efficiently to bone marrow-derived DCs (BMDCs) in vitro due to the specific interaction between scFv-CD11c and CD11c located on the surface of BMDCs. After incubation with BMDCs, the 409-aCD11c strain harboring a eukaryotic vector pValac-GFP could lead to more efficient expression of GFP compared with wild-type strains shown by flow cytometry analysis, indicating the enhanced translocation of pValac-GFP from L. plantarum to BMDCs. Similar results were also observed in an in vivo study, which showed that oral administration resulted in efficient expression of GFP in both Peyer’s patches (PP) and mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) within 7 days after the last administration. In addition, the CD11c-targeting strain significantly promoted the differentiation and maturation of DCs, the differentiation of IL-4+ and IL-17A+ T helper (Th) cells in MLNs, as well as production of B220+ IgA+ B cells in the PP. In conclusion, this study developed a novel DC-targeting L. plantarum strain which could increase the ability to deliver eukaryotic expression plasmid to host cells, indicating a promising approach for vaccine study.

Seismic Stability of 3D Tunnel Face Considering Tensile Strength Cut-off

Jing Liu,Wen-Jun Luo,Li-Li Liu 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.8

Earthquakes can have a very adverse effect on tunnel excavation. The Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion is modified by introducing tensile strength cut-off, which allows nonlinear strength reduction of soil under tensile conditions, and kinematic analysis of tunnel face subjected to the earthquake is carried out. The pseudo-dynamic method is adopted to simulate the earthquake with the acceleration varying with time and space, improving the accuracy of the simulation. The external power and internal energy dissipation rate are equal to obtain the expression of tunnel face support pressure under the limit analysis framework. And the most unfavorable tunnel face support pressure is optimized by using the method of exhaustion. Compared with other research results, the validity of this method is proved. The influence of soil parameters and pseudo-dynamic parameters on the critical support pressure is revealed by further parameter analysis. Finally, this study provides an effective reference for seismic design of tunnel engineering construction.

Global Disease Burden and Attributable Risk Factor Analysis of Asthma in 204 Countries and Territories From 1990 to 2019

        Liu Hailing,Zhang Jing,Liu Li,Lian Guoli,Shi Ruiming,Xu Man,Yang Juan,Liu Xiaohong 대한천식알레르기학회 2023 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.15 No.4

Purpose: Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory respiratory tract disease with high morbidity and mortality. The global trends in asthma burden remain poorly understood, and asthma incidence has increased during the worldwide coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive view of the global distribution of asthma burden and its attributable risk factors from 1990 to 2019. Methods: Based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 Database, asthma incidence, deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), the corresponding age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized death rate (ASDR), age-standardized DALY rate, and estimated annual percentage change were analyzed according to age, sex, sociodemographic index (SDI) quintiles, and locations. Risk factors contributing to asthma deaths and DALYs were also investigated. Results: Globally, the asthma incidence increased by 15%, but deaths and DALYs decreased. The corresponding ASIR, ASDR, and age-standardized DALY rate also decreased. The high SDI region had the highest ASIR, and the low SDI region had the highest ASDR. The ASDR and age-standardized DALY rate were negatively correlated with the SDI. The low-middle SDI region, particularly South Asia, showed the highest asthma-related deaths and DALYs. The incidence peak was under 9 years old, and more than 70% of all deaths occurred in the population over 60 years old. Smoking, occupational asthmagens, and a high body mass index were the main risk factors for asthma-related mortality and DALYs, and their distributions varied between sexes. Conclusions: Globally, the asthma incidence has increased since 1990. The greatest asthma burden is borne by the low-middle SDI region. The 2 groups that need special attention are those under 9 years old and those over 60 years old. Targeted strategies are needed to reduce the asthma burden based on geographic and sex-age characteristics. Our findings also provide a platform for further investigation into the asthma burden in the era of COVID-19.
