Voxel-encoded descriptor for 3D model retrieval by exploring model’s spatial information
Jin-Yuan Jia,Qian Zhang,Long Zeng,Shuang Liang 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.7
Retrieving similar products with a given one has attracted considerable attention. However, products are usually assembled by multiplecomponents, frustrating the previous visual-based retrieval descriptors. We design a voxel-encoded descriptor (VED) by exploring models’spatial information, i.e., boundary data and internal data. This descriptor is computed in three steps. First, the posture of a polygonalmodel is normalized by improved voxel-based principal component analysis technique. Then, six color images are generated by projectingthe voxels along its six local axes. The color value of each pixel encodes status of all voxels intersecting with the ray starting from thepixel and parallel to the axis. The status of all voxels along a ray embodies the spatial distribution of the model along this ray. Finally, theVED is computed by applying 2D Fourier transformation to the six color images. With VED, we can distinguish a hollow sphere from asolid sphere. To improve the retrieval efficiency, the database structure is optimized by an improved geometric manifold entropy(iGEOMEN) scheme. VED and iGEOMEN are integrated into a model retrieval system. Experimental results demonstrate that the VEDdescriptor outperforms the previous visual-based shape descriptors, especially for complex assembly models.

The efficacy of Trichogramma against pests basically depends on the dispersal capacity of the wasps. A releaserecapture method was used in this study to evaluate the effect of relative wind speed (RWS) during the nighttime and the daytime on the dispersal capacity of postrelease population of Trichogramma dendrolimi Matsumura. Two repeated measurements were carried out, using sentinel cards with the host eggs and yellow sticky card traps on the third and the sixth day after wasp release. The results showed that: (1) both the number of recaptured wasps and parasitized eggs increased with the RWS in the daytime during the first three days. The number of parasitized eggs also increased with the RWS in the daytime over the latter three days. The distances that encompassed 98% recaptured T. dendrolimi adults (X 98 ) at the first three days was quadratically increased by the RWS of the daytime. (2) The number of wasps recaptured decreased with the distance from the releasing point during the first three days, but it was not influenced by the distance from the releasing point during the latter three days. (3) The average dispersal radius of the wasps during the first three days was shorter than during the latter three days. The present results will be helpful to improve release techniques based on the wind effects at different times.
Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Signal Transduction in Solid Tumors
Lei, Yuan-Yuan,Wang, Wei-Jia,Mei, Jin-Hong,Wang, Chun-Liang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.20
Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) is an important signaling pathway in living beings in response to extracellular stimuli. There are 5 main subgroups manipulating by a set of sequential actions: ERK(ERK1/ERK2), c-Jun N(JNK/SAPK), p38 MAPK($p38{\alpha}$, $p38{\beta}$, $p38{\gamma}$ and $p38{\delta}$), and ERK3/ERK4/ERK5. When stimulated, factors of upstream or downstream change, and by interacting with each other, these groups have long been recognized to be related to multiple biologic processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, death, migration, invasion and inflammation. However, once abnormally activated, cancer may occur. Several components of the MAPK network have already been proposed as targets in cancer therapy, such as p38, JNK, ERK, MEK, RAF, RAS, and DUSP1. Among them, alteration of the RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK-MAPK(RAS-MAPK) pathway has frequently been reported in human cancer as a result of abnormal activation of receptor tyrosine kinases or gain-of-function mutations in genes. The reported roles of MAPK signaling in apoptotic cell death are controversial, so that further in-depth investigations are needed to address these controversies. Based on an extensive analysis of published data, the goal of this review is to provide an overview on recent studies about the mechanism of MAP kinases, and how it generates certain tumors, as well as related treatments.

Background Cystic pulmonary fibrosis (CF) affects mostly the lung of the newborns. Chronic infection and inflammation become the major causes of morbidity and mortality in CF. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms causing CF still remain unclear. Methods ELISA assay was used to examine the expression of HE4 and pro-inflammatory cytokines in W126VA4 cells supernatant fluid. qRT-PCR was applicable to determine the mRNA level of HE4, α-SMA, collagen 1, MMP2, MMP9 and various interleukins. Immunofluorescent assay was used to test the expression of HE4 in WI-26 VA4 cells. Major elements of MAPK and NF-κB signals pathways were examined by western blot. Results We found higher expression of HE4 in CF patients serum and lung biopsy. Interestingly, HE4 expression was positively correlated with fibrosis markers expression. In addition,HE4 overexpression increased inflammatory cytokines secretion and fibrosis markers expression in WI-26 VA4 cells. And NF-κB pathways were responsible for elevated inflammation. In addition, HE4/MAPK/MMPs signaling cascades destroyed the normal extracellular matrix (ECM) and promoted fibrosis. Conclusions Overall, we first identified that HE4 promoted CF-associated inflammation. Additionally, NF-κB and MAPK signalings were further validated to be responsible for CF-associated inflammation and ECM destruction. Characterization of lumacaftor/ivacaftor in CF-associated inflammation may provide a novel insight into clinical CF treatment.

Background: This study was conducted to determine DEPDC1 expression in hepatocelluar carcinomas (HCCs) and to reveal its potential role in diagnosis and prognosis of affected patients. Materials and Methods: DEPDC1 expression at the mRNA level was detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) in 205 cases of HCC and paired adjacent normal liver tissues, and by semi-quantitative RT-PCR in 20 cases. Survival curves were obtained by using Kaplan-Meier method and Log-rank test. Independent predictors associated with regard to disease free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were identified using the Cox proportional hazard model. Results: High DEPDC1 mRNA levels were detected in 144 out of 205 cases (70.24%) of HCC, significantly associated with clinicopathological parameters, including tumor size (${\geq}4cm$), alpha-fetoprotein (${\geq}100ng/ml$), B-C of BCLC stage and recurrence. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that HCC patients with high DEPDC1 expression had poor OS and DFS. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that high DEPDC1 expression was an independent predictor for OS (HR=1.651; 95% 95%CI, 1.041-2.617; p=0.033) and DFS (HR=1.583; 95%CI, 1.01-2.483; p=0.045). Conclusions: Our results indicate DEPDC1 might be a novel diagnostic marker and an independent prognostic predictor for HCC patients.

Keratin is an important protein used in wound healing and tissue recovery. In this study, keratin was modified chemically with iodoacetic acid (IAA) to enhance its solubility in organic solvent. Poly(hydroxybutylate-co-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and modified keratin were dissolved in hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) and electrospun to produce nanofibrous mats. The resulting mats were surface-characterized by ATR-FTIR, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). The pure m-keratin mat was cross-linked with glutaraldehyde vapor to make it insoluble in water. The biodegradation test in vitro showed that the mats could be biodegraded by PHB depolymerase and trypsin aqueous solution. The results of the cell adhesion experiment showed that the NIH 3T3 cells adhered more to the PHBV/m-keratin nanofibrous mats than the PHBV film. The BrdU assay showed that the keratin and PHBV/m-keratin nanofibrous mats could accelerate the proliferation of fibroblast cells compared to the PHBV nanofibrous mats.

In this paper, by using the Rayleigh-Sommer field theory and the cross-spectral density function, theanalytical expression for the intensity distribution of a double half-Gaussian hollow beam in a turbulentatmosphere is obtained. The influence of the initial spot size of this beam on its propagation propertiesin a turbulent atmosphere is simulated, and the intensity distributions for such beams with different spotsizes are obtained. The results show that the initial spot size has an important influence on the propagationproperties in the near field, while this influence in the far field is very weak.

<P> Cryopreservation is an effective method for the long-term storage of valuable germplasm in the field of reproductive research. The present study examined the developmental capacity of post-thaw bovine blastocysts during vitrification after supplementation with antifreeze glycoprotein 8 (AFGP8). Survival and re-expansion rates in culture during the 12 h after thawing were significantly higher in the AFGP8-treated than untreated group. In addition, blastocysts from the AFGP8-treated group exhibited lower rates of apoptosis. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that the expression of the Bcl-2 gene, coding for an anti-apoptotic protein, was increased significantly, whereas the expression of the pro-apoptotic gene Bax was decreased significantly in the AFGP8-treated group. The cellular proliferation rate and mitochondrial membrane potential were significantly higher in post-thaw re-expanded blastocysts from the AFGP8-treated compared with untreated group. In addition, outgrowth potential in post-thaw blastocysts in re-expanded blastocysts after vitrification was significantly increased in the AFGP8-treated compared with untreated group. Together, these results are the first to demonstrate that the addition of AFGP8 during vitrification can help protect bovine blastocysts against chill-induced injury. </P>
