Microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) has recently become an intelligent and environmentally friendly method for repairing cracks in concrete. To improve on this ability of microbial materials concrete repair, we applied random mutagenesis and optimization of mineralization conditions to improve the quantity and crystal form of microbially precipitated calcium carbonate. Sporosarcina pasteurii ATCC 11859 was used as the starting strain to obtain the mutant with high urease activity by atmospheric and room temperature plasma (ARTP) mutagenesis. Next, we investigated the optimal biomineralization conditions and precipitation crystal form using Plackett-Burman experimental design and response surface methodology (RSM). Biomineralization with 0.73 mol/l calcium chloride, 45 g/l urea, reaction temperature of 45°C, and reaction time of 22 h, significantly increased the amount of precipitated calcium carbonate, which was deposited in the form of calcite crystals. Finally, the repair of concrete using the optimized biomineralization process was evaluated. A comparison of water absorption and adhesion of concrete specimens before and after repairs showed that concrete cracks and surface defects could be efficiently repaired. This study provides a new method to engineer biocementing material for concrete repair.

2017 marks the 110th anniversary of Chinese drama. According to the so-called Chinese dramatic performing system, actors and actresses, employing a variety of artistic devices including speech, movement, dance, music etc. derived from Chinese cultural heritage such as classical literature, painting, folk music, dance, etiquette, phonology and costume etc. and traditional Chinese aesthetics, act out a story on the stage before the audience, thereby realizing a comprehensive art form of both lyrical and narrative purposes. This system features distinct Chinese national characteristics and high aesthetic achievement. The inherent aesthetic spirit is “the theory of artistic conception”. Over the past two decades, the author has made substantial achievement in the exploration and pursuit of the beauty of artistic conception through the practice of drama creation. 2017年,中国话剧诞生110周年。而所谓中国戏剧表演体系的形成,是集中贯彻中国古典文学、 中国民族音乐、民族舞蹈、民俗礼仪礼节、音韵和服饰文化、中国绘画等多方面的传统民族文 化,继承中国的传统美学思想而形成的,又不乏戏剧中语言、动作、舞蹈、音乐等表演形式,由 演员扮演角色在舞台上当众表演故事,达到叙事达意的一种综合艺术形态。这是一个具有鲜明的 民族特色和高度美学成就的表演体系。因此,其内在的美学精神,就是“意境说”。近二十年来, 笔者一直在戏剧创作中探索、追求意境之美,颇有建树。

A wide operating band is important for a pump to safely perform at maximum efficiency while saving energy. To widen the operating range, a multi-point optimization process based on numerical simulations in order to improve impeller performance of a centrifugal pump used in nuclear plant applications is proposed by this research. The Reynolds average Navier Stokes equations are utilized to perform the calculations. The meridional shape of the impeller was optimized based on the following four parameters; shroud arc radius, hub arc radius, shroud angle, and hub angle as the design variables. Efficiencies calculated under 0.6Q d , 1.0Q d and 1.62Q d were selected as the three optimized objectives. The Design of experiment method was applied to generate various impellers while 35 impellers were generated by the Latin hypercube sampling method. A Response surface function based on a second order function was applied to construct a mathematical relationship between the objectives and design variables. A multi-objective genetic algorithm was utilized to solve the response surface function to obtain the best optimized objectives as well as the best combination of design parameters. The results indicated that the pump performance predicted by numerical simulation was in agreement with the experimental performance. The optimized efficiencies based on the three operating conditions were increased by 3.9 %, 6.1 % and 2.6 %, respectively. In addition, the velocity distribution, pressure distribution,streamline and turbulence kinetic energy distribution of the optimized and reference impeller were compared and analyzed to illustrate the performance improvement.

A partitioned fluid-structure interaction (FSI) solving strategy that depends on problem characteristics is applied to quantitatively obtain the coupling effects of a fluid-structure system in a single-blade centrifugal pump on the unsteady flow. A two-way coupling method is employed to realize strong FSI effects in the calculation procedure. The successful impeller oscillation measurement using two proximity sensors validated the FSI simulation accuracy in a complicated and practical fluid-structure system having a rotating component. The results show that the hydrodynamic force deviation can be observed in the results for the coupled versus uncoupled cases. Additionally,the coupled unsteady pressure is larger than the uncoupled value for every monitoring point at every impeller rotation position. Comparison results for different monitoring points under an overload condition and partial-load condition display the same regularities. To some extent, this interaction mechanism would affect the accuracy and reliability of the unsteady flow and rotor deflection analysis.
Antibacterial and Antitumor Macrolides from Streptomyces sp. Ls9131

Four compounds, including two novel macrolides, were isolated from an endophyte Streptomyces sp. ls9131 of Maytenus hookeri. Spectral data indicated that these compounds were dimeric dinactin (1), dimeric nonactin (2), cyclo-homononactic acid (3), and cyclo-nonactic acid (4). Bioassay results showed that dimeric dinactin had strong antineoplastic activity and antibacterial activity.

To increase efficiency at the design point of a centrifugal pump, this study adopted an artificial neural network in the construction of an accurate nonlinear function between the optimization objective and the design variables of impellers. Modified particle swarm optimization was further applied to refine the mathematical model globally. The database, which consisted of 200 sets of impellers, were generated from the Latin hypercube sampling method, and their corresponding efficiencies were obtained automatically from numerical simulation. Design variables were the distributions of blade angles, and results established that the difference between the numerical performance curve and the experimental results was acceptable. Optimization with a two-layer feedforward network improved the pump efficiency at the design point by 0.454 %. Flow complexity improved as the blade curvature increased. The application of the multilayer neural network could provide a meaningful reference to single- and multi-objective optimization of complex and nonlinear pump performance.

We found that the pure dye 4-(2-(3,3-dicyanomethylene-5,5-dimethyl-1-cyclohexylidene)vinyl) phenyl(1-naphthyl)phenylamine can form a solid-state thin film up to 31 nm in thickness by simple dip-coating. After electric poling, the molecular film was very well oriented along the poling field’s direction (ordering parameter = 0.36). The poled film gave a large resonant second-harmonic generation (SHG) signal ((2) = 591 pm/V when using 1064-nm laser light as the fundamental light) and non-resonant SHG ((2) = 232 pm/V when using 800-nm laser light as the fundamental light). The results show that such molecules can find applications in nonlinear photonic integrated circuits.
Triterpenes with cytotoxicity from the leaves of Vernicia fordii.

<P>Two new triterpenes, (1α,3β,8α,9β,10α,13α,14β)-9,10-dimethyl-25,26-dinorolean-5-en-1,3-diol (1) and (1α,3β,6β)-olean-12-en-1,3,6-triol (2) were isolated from the leaves of Aleurites fordii, together with five known triterpenes. The structures of isolates were established by one dimensional (1D)- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data along with MS analysis. Of the isolated compounds, 1, 2 and 4 (daturadiol) displayed moderate cytotoxicities against two or more human cancer cell lines in HepG2 (hepatocellular carcinoma), SK-OV-3 (ovarian carcinoma), A-549 (lung carcinoma) and SNU-1 (gastric carcinoma).</P>
