Performance Evaluation of DS-UWB based Short-range Radar in AWGN Environment

This paper presents a simulation based feasibility study of Direct Sequence Ultra-wideband technology (DS-UWB) based short-range radar for precision measurements; especially focusing upon development of a working hardware prototype. The use of DS-UWB technology for the short-range radar is well known for excellent power efficiency, less interference signal crossings among multiple homogeneous devices, and high resolution distance measurement, etc. In this study, a prototype hardware design is proposed and necessary simulation study is carried out to investigate the convergence characteristics of pseudo noise (PN) code autocorrelation signal. An additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment is assumed and two types of interpolation method ? linear and Lagrange’s ? are employed for the autocorrelation analysis. The Lagrange’s interpolation method showed a good convergence characteristic.
