Vol.31 No.1

This study figured out which aspect was shown in light of historical context as for works such as < Giselle > by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, which can be said to be the essence of romantic ballet, < Giselle > choreographed in 1982 by Mats Ek, and < She, Giselle > by James Jeon at Seoul Ballet Theatre, who re-analyzed it with 21C modern sense in our country. These three works were greatly influenced by historical characteristics at that time. Giselle in the 19th century contained a weak woman``s image, which was lost the female identity, while being noticeably indicated sociality at that time that had emphasized the social class. Mats Ek``s Giselle, which was contained the unique philosophy, expressed the happening a little more realistically that Giselle goes to a mental hospital in Act II. James Jeon``s < She, Giselle > depicted a strong woman who takes responsibility for a child with earning monty by having the body as medium after going to a red-light district instead of death, thereby having depicted the female subject, who gains freedom in the spiritual aspect. In this way, even the classic ballet works are expressed differently depending on philosophical propensity to which a choreographer points according to historical flow and also to sociality of each country.

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Responses to Antidumping Laws and Legal Interpretations: Producing for Export Markets Using Lawyers and Other Factors of Production

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

This paper explores in the context of a stylized model of dumping some possible strategic responses to the use of "cumulation" and "threat of material injury" in dumping investigations. In particular, it is shown that these guidelines for investigations can change the payoff structure of competition abroad and thereby induce reduced competition and optimal-from an individual firm point of view-excess capacity.

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Lobbying and Antidumping

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

Anti-dumping is often defended as a pressure valve which reduces more illiberal forms of protectionist pressure. In the domino dumping model of Anderson [1992, 1993] this need not be true as exporters dump to obtain market access in the event of a VER. The contribution of this paper is to show that anti-dumping opens a channel for strategic lobbying through which lobbying commitments can have favorable effects on the decisions of exporting firms, and through which antidumping enforcement can encourage lobbying. Thus a ``depoliticizing`` institution can perversely be responsible for politicizing trade policy all the more.

Use of extended conversation to enhance vocabulary knowledge in English for employment classes

        James Matthew(James Matthew ),Frank Bennett(Frank Bennett ),허선민(Seonmin Huh) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2022 영어교육연구 Vol.34 No.3

Many English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs focus on students’ oral proficiency and lack the content needed to assist students to develop lexical compilation for use in real workplace contexts. The current study will build upon the existing literature by developing pedagogy to assist students in their workplace readiness, focusing on a strong practical command of relevant English vocabulary. The research focuses on the pedagogy two professors incorporated in their English for employment courses, when teaching employment-related concept vocabulary. A qualitative case study of two foreign professors in the department of English in two Korean universities guided the current study. Pre-made recorded video lectures, live online class sessions with students, lesson plans and class materials were collected for data analysis. The study then focused on determining representative patterns in the professors’ teaching methods. Pedagogy that extended career specific concept vocabulary into authentic English conversation with three main steps was found. Firstly, students were taught concept vocabulary. Secondly, the vocabulary was then combined in speaking activities where students not only had to solve scenarios but also were required to expand on the given forms of words and language expressions. Lastly, the students had extended authentic conversations in English, using the target concept vocabulary learnt. Educational implications have been discussed. (211 words)

Management of rare ectopic teeth eruption: case series

Olutayo James(Olutayo James ),Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman(Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman ),Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad(Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad ),Hector Oladapo Olasoji(Hector Oladapo Olasoji ) 대한구강악안면외과학회 2023 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.49 No.2

Objectives: An ectopic tooth is a rare eruption of a tooth out of the normal dental apparatus and occurs commonly with the third molar. Thus, in this study, we reported a case series of ectopic teeth in rare jaw locations and highlight the associated pathology and our experience in the surgical management. Patients and Methods: All cases of ectopic tooth managed at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020 were reviewed. The information retrieved includes biodata, location of the ectopic tooth, signs, symptoms, type of tooth and associated pathology, surgical approach and complications. Results: Ten cases of ectopic teeth were identified over the study period. This comprised 80.0% males with a mean age was 23.3 years. The antrum and lower border of the mandible accounted for 50.0% and 40.0% of the ectopic locations, respectively. Dentigerous cyst was the most associated pathology (70%) and usually presented with pain and swelling. Surgical intervention predominantly via the intraoral route was performed if indicated. Conclusion: Ectopic teeth are rare and not always associated with pathology. A high index of suspicion and radiological investigation are necessary for diagnosis. A more extensive multi-center study is however recommended to determine the prevalence of ectopic teeth other than the third molar.

Gastroduodenal artery steal syndrome treated with coil embolization after orthotopic liver transplantation

2021 International journal of gastrointestinal interven Vol.10 No.3

Gastroduodenal artery steal syndrome is an uncommon complication occurring after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) that results in hypoperfusion of the hepatic artery increasing the risk for graft dysfunction. Its non-specific clinical and imaging findings often delay diagnosis and increase the chance for re-transplantation or death. The lack of diagnostic criteria and definitive risk factors for developing the syndrome creates a need for angiography to visualize anatomical and perfusion characteristics indicative of the phenomenon. We present a 47-year-old male who underwent OLT and developed gastroduodenal artery steal a week after surgery. The diagnosis was confirmed with angiogram and successfully treated with coil embolization of the gastroduodenal artery. Arterial steal syndromes should be part of the broad differential when encountered with findings suggestive of an arterial complications in post-OLT patients.

Lithium ion car batteries: Present analysis and future predictions

        James Arambarri,James Hayden,Mostafa Elkurdy,Bryan Meyers,Ziad Salem Abu Hamatteh,Bassim Abbassi,Waid Omar 대한환경공학회 2019 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.24 No.4

Electric vehicles (EVs) are spreading rapidly and many counties are promoting hybrid and fully EVs through legislation. Therefore, an increasing amount of lithium ion batteries will reach the end of their usable life and will require effective and sustainable end-of-life management plan which include landfill disposal or incineration. The current research focuses on more sustainable methods such as remanufacturing, reuse and recycling in order to prepare for future battery compositions and provide insights to the need recycling methods to be developed to handle large amounts of batteries sustainably in the near future. The two most prominent material recovery techniques are hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy which are explored and assessed on their relative effectiveness, sustainability, and feasibility. Hydrometallurgy is a superior recycling method due to high material recovery and purity, very low emissions, high prevalence of chemical reuse and implementation of environmentally sustainable compounds. Expanding recycling technologies globally should take the research and technologies pioneered by Umicore to establish a sustainable recycling program for end-of-life EVs batteries. Emerging battery technology of Telsa show the most effective designs for high performance batteries includes the use of silicon which is expected to increase capacity of batteries in the future.

Improving Marine Policy through Use of Visualization Tools in a Policy Simulation Lab

2002 Korea Observer Vol.33 No.2

Technical studies can shed light on many complex marinepolicy issues. However, conveying this information in easilyunderstandable ways to decision makers and other stakeholders isoften a difficult task. This paper will present initial draft results of ongoing work to develop new tools to help interested parties bettervisualize the consequences of policy actions and to integrate thetools into larger project analyses. The project uses the new stateof-the-art Policy Simulation Laboratory (SimLab) at the Univeristyof Rhode Island to communicate the consequences ofchange in the community. The SimLab is a group of networkedrooms and computer systems that utilize technology-based tools, like Geographic Information Systems (GIS), digital imagery andvirtual reality software, to help communities better visualize theconsequences of development (See http://www.uri.edu/cels/enre/Preview/SimLab/). For example, modeling tools can be used toforecast future development in a town, and GIS maps can be createdto show likely spatial distribution of future developments. Byclicking on specific areas of development on the maps, virtualreality tools allow interactive virtual drive-throughs or fly-bys ofdevelopments, complete with visuals and sound. Computer systemscan be used for forecast how different policy scenarios canbe used to attempt to manage the future of the community. In this paper we report on our initial progress toward thecreation and use of visualization tools, within the context of twolarger applications in coastal regions. The first application is partof a larger project to determine social, ecological and economicimpacts of alternative development scenarios in South County,Rhode Island. We intend to use virtual reality tools to help interestedparties better visualize the aesthetic consequences of newdevelopments. The second application is part of a larger ongoinganalysis to assess potential demand and community impacts of aproposed container port in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. We presentinitial drafts of technology-based tools to present visual andauditory impacts of a new port. Ongoing work will extend applicationsto coastal issues in Korea.

A Multicultural Landscape and Multiculturalism of Canada:Implications for Korea

2010 Korea Observer Vol.41 No.4

Canada became the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as official state policy in 1971. Since then, Canada has been looked upon with admiration by leaders in many parts of the world for being one of the most successful pluralist societies in the world. In grappling with the growing ethnic diversity in South Korea, government officials and scholars alike have looked to Canada as a potential model for the country to emulate. This is how the concept of multiculturalism naturally became a keyword of contemporary Korean society. The problem is, however, the term has often been misused and misunderstood. The biggest problem has been the failure to distinguish between multicultural society as a fact, i.e.,ethnic diversity in Korean society, and multiculturalism as a policy and ideology. In particular, the latter has been used without an adequate understanding of the multiplicity of its meanings, complexity and implications. This paper aims to redress this problem by attempting to better understand multiculturalism by examining its philosophy and policy in Canada. The paper analyzes Canadian multiculturalism from multidimensional approaches and discusses the applicability of the concept in the Korean context.
