<P> This paper presents the control method that inverter output keeps to linear to reference voltage of Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) using DC Link voltage Synthesis. This method is reduced torque ripple considering parameters with magnetic saturation. To estimate parameters of inductances for SynRM, the proposed method uses recursive least square (RLS) estimation algorithm. The estimated inductances are used for calculating torque and DC link voltage. The Inverter output voltage cannot be displayed to linear about inverter reference voltage if Real DC Link voltage is different from DC Link voltage of PWM amplitude. Also, the over-modulation is linearity broken if reference voltage is out of range. Torque ripple generates the vibration and noise of a motor. This paper proposes the control method so that the torque ripple decreases and the linearity of inverter output keeps using the DC Link voltage Synthesis. The proposed control method is verified by computer simulation and experiment. </P>

Geijibokryunghwan has a wide range of therapeutic applications, and some reports have indicated that it has protective activity against atherosclerosis, and more specifically stroke and myocardial infarction. A recent report showed that atherosclerotic plaque volume can be reduced by supplying Geijibokryunghwan extracts for several years. In this study, we used a component of Geijibokryunghwan, which has been used for the prevention of atherosclerosis in Korea for several years, and has proven to be useful in lowering the occurrence of cerebral infarction. In a preliminary study, we found that Geijibokryunghwan potently suppressed platelet aggregation induced by various agonists. In this study, we sought to explore the mechanism by which Geijibokryunghwan inhibits platelet aggregations.

<P>Proliferation activity has already been established as a prognostic marker or as a marker for anticancer drug sensitivity. In gastric cancer, however, the prognostic significance of proliferation activity is still being debated. Several studies evaluating proliferation activity using Ki-67 have shown controversial results in terms of the relationship between proliferation activity and overall survival (OS) or drug sensitivity in gastric cancer patients. Because cytoskeleton-associated protein 2 (CKAP2) staining has recently been introduced as a marker of proliferation activity, we analyzed 437 gastric cancer tissues through CKAP2 immunohistochemistry, and we evaluated the chromatin CKAP2-positive cell count (CPCC) for proliferation activity. Although the CPCC did not show any significant correlation with OS in the male, female or total number of cases, it did show a significant correlation in the T1 or T2 male patient subgroup, according to log-rank tests (<I>P</I>=0.001) and univariate analysis (<I>P</I>=0.045). Additionally, multivariate analysis with the Cox proportional hazard regression model showed a significant correlation between the CPCC and OS (<I>P</I>=0.039) for the co-variables of age, gender, T stage, N stage, histology, tumor location, tumor size and adjuvant chemotherapy. In male gastric cancer cell lines, faster-growing cancer cells showed higher sensitivity to cisplatin than slow-growing cells. Thus our study indicates that CPCC-measured proliferation activity demonstrates a significantly worse prognosis in T1 or T2 male gastric cancer patients. The CPCC will help to more precisely classify gastric cancer patients and to select excellent candidates for adjuvant chemotherapy, which in turn will facilitate further clinical chemotherapeutic trials.</P>
Postprandial Glucose and Insulin Responses to Processed Rice Products in Normal Subjects
Kim, Jae-Cherl,Kim, Jung-In,Kong, Byoung-Wook,Jung, Suk-Heui,Park, Su-Jin,Kwon, Tae-Wan The Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition 2002 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.7 No.2
The influence of physical forms of gelatinized rice products on enzymatic hydrolysis in vitro and glycemic and insulinemic responses in normal subjects were studied. Densities of garaedu, bagsulgi, and cooked rice were 1.20, 1.18 and 1.11 g/mL, respectively, while moisture contents of garaeduk, bagsulgi, and cooked rice were 47.5, 43.1 and 66.0% (wt.), respectively. The highest initial rate of in vitro hydrolysis by porcine pancreatic $\alpha$-amylase was observed in bagsulgi followed by cooked rice and garaeduk. However, time for complete hydrolysis seemed to reach a plateau value. Postprandial glucose and insulin responses and satiety of rice products were studied in 12 normal subjects (mean age 23.2 $\pm$ 2.4 years, 6 men and 6 women). Postprandial serum glucose and insulin levels, after consumption of the rice products, reached a peak at 30 min. Garaeduk showed significantly less incremental responses for glucose (1627.5$\pm$134.9 mg.min/dL) and insulin (2041$\pm$287.0 uU.min/mL) than did bagsulgi for glucose (2407.4$\pm$208.3 mg.min/dL) and insulin (3582$\pm$264.4 uU.min/mL). Satiety responses to the rice products were not significantly different. Therefore, it can be concluded that garaeduk may be more beneficial in controlling postprandial hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia than bagsulgi. These results also suggest that physical properties of starch products, acquired by the specific processing methods, affect postprandial metabolism of carbohydrate foods.

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>Discrepancies in the clinicopathologic parameters pre- and post-endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) sometimes necessitate additional surgical resection. The aim of this study was to assess such discrepancies in clinicopathologic parameters before and after ESD in the context of reducing the risk of failure of curative ESD.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Data on 712 early gastric cancer patients were prospectively collected from 12 university hospitals nationwide. The inclusion criteria were differentiated carcinoma <3 cm in size, no ulceration, submucosal invasion <500 μm, and no metastasis. Clinicopathologic factors were compared retrospectively.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>The discrepancy rate was 20.1 % (148/737) and the most common cause of discrepancy was tumor size (64 cases, 8.7 %). Ulceration, undifferentiated histology, and SM2 invasion were found in 34 (4.6 %), 18 (2.4 %), and 51 cases (6.9 %), respectively. Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) was observed in 34 cases (4.6 %). Cases with lesions exceeding 3 cm in size showed more frequent submucosal invasion, an elevated gross morphology, and upper and middle locations (<I>p</I> < 0.05). In the cases with ulceration, depth of invasion (DOI) was deeper than in the cases without ulceration (<I>p</I> = 0.005). Differentiation was correlated with DOI and LVI (<I>p</I> = 0.021 and 0.007). DOI was correlated with tumor size, ulceration, differentiation, LVI, gross type, and location. There were statistically significant differences between mucosal cancer cases and submucosal cancer cases in tumor size, differentiation, ulceration, LVI, and location.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>The overall discrepancy rate was 20.1 %. To reduce this rate, it is necessary to evaluate the DOI very cautiously, because it is correlated with other parameters. In particular, careful checking for SM-invasive cancer is required due to the high incidence of LVI irrespective of the depth of submucosal invasion.</P>

We examine the effect of Geiji-Bokryung-Hwan(GBH) on erectile function in a rat model of hypercholesterolemic erectile dysfunction. GBH, a drug preparation consisting of five herbs of Cinnamomi Ramulus (Geiji), Poria Cocos (Bokryun), Mountan Cortex Radicis (Mokdanpi), Paeoniae Radix (Jakyak), and Persicae Semen (Doin) is a traditional Korean herbal medicine that is widely used in the treatment of atherosclerosis-related disorders. In this study, 3-month-old Sprague-Dawley rats were used. The 6 rats control animals were fed a normal diet and the other 18 rats were fed 1% cholesterol diet for 3 months. After 1 months, GBH was added to the drinking water of the treatment group of 12 rats but not the cholesterol only group of 6 rats. Of the 12 rats 6 received 30 mg/kg per day (group 1) and 6 received 60 mg/kg per day (group 2) of GBH. At 3 months erectile function was evaluated with cavernous nerve electrostimulation in all animals. Penile tissues were collected for electron microscopy, and to perform Western blot for endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and caveolin-1. Systemic arterial pressure was not significantly different between the animals that were fed the 1% cholesterol diet and the controls. Conversely erectile function was not impaired in the herbal medicine treated rats. Electron microscopy showed many caveolae with fingerlike processes in the cavernous smooth muscle and endothelial cell membranes in control and treated rats but not in the cholesterol only group of rats. Western blot showed differences among groups in protein expression for eNOS, nNOS, caveolin-1 and bFGF protein expression in penile tissue. Increased eNOS and nNOS protein expressions dy high cholesterol diet were significantly decreased in group 1 and group 2. Interestingly, caveolin-1 and bFGF protein expression was significantly higher in groups 1 and 2 than in the cholesterol only and control groups.

The Passive Auxiliary Feedwater System(PAFS) is one of the advanced safety concepts adopted in the Advanced Power Reactor Plus(APR+). To validate the operational performance of the PAFS, detailed understanding of a boiling heat transfer on horizontal tube outside is of great importance. Especially, in the mechanistic boiling heat transfer model, it is important to visualize the phenomena but there are some limitations with conventional experimental approaches. In the present study, we devised a heater based on the Flexible Printed Circuit Board (FPCB) for a more comprehensive visualization and subsequently, a digital image processing technique for the bubble motion measurement was established. Using the measurement technique, important parameters of the nucleate boiling are analyzed.
