Evaluation of alloying effect on the formation of Ni-Fe nanosized powders by pulsed wire discharge

<P>This study investigates the effects of varying the explosion time and charging voltage of pulsed wire discharge (PWD) on the mean particle size, dispersibility and alloying reliability of powders produced from pure Ni and Ni-plated Fe wires. It was found that with increasing charging voltage, the mean particle size of Ni powders is reduced from 40.11 +/- 0.23 to 25.63 +/- 0.07 nm, which is attributed to a change in the extent of super heating with particle size. Nanosized powders of Ni-Fe alloy with a mean particle size between 25.91 +/- 0.24 and 26.30 +/- 0.26 nm were also successfully fabricated and found to consist of particles with a gamma-(Ni/Fe) core and FeO shell. The reliability for the optimization of processing parameters to control particle sizes is also evaluated. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

<P>An outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease caused by serotype O virus occurred in cattle and pigs in South Korea during November 2010–April 2011. The highest rates of case and virus detection were observed 44 days after the first case was detected. Detection rates declined rapidly after culling and completion of a national vaccination program.</P>

Antioxidant activity and analysis of proantbocyanidins from pine (Pinus densiflora)needles

In this study, we evaluated the antioxidant activity of pine needle extracts prepared with hot water, ethanol, hexane, hot water-hexane (HWH), and hot water-ethanol (HWE), using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical method. The hot water extract possessed superior antioxidant activity than the other extracts. We also compared the antioxidant activity of pine needle extracts through ROS inhibition activity in a cellular system using MC3T3 E-1 cells. The hot water extract exhibited the lowest ROS production. The pattern of HPLC analysis of each extract indicated that the hot water extract contained the highest proanthocyanidin level. The pine needle hot-water extract was then isolated and fractionated with Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography to determine the major contributor to its antioxidant activity. The No.7 and 12 fractions had high antioxidant activities, that is, the highest contents of proanthocyanidins and catechins, respectively. These results indicate that the antioxidant activity of procyanidins from the hot water extract of pine needles is positively related to not only polymeric proanthocyanidins but also to monomeric catechins. Moreover, the antioxidant activity of the pine needle hot water extract was similar to well-known antioxidants, such as vitamin C. This suggests that pine needle proanthocyanidins and catechins might be of interest for use as alternative antioxidants.

Recently concurrent programs have been applied in many fields in order to efficiently develope parallel processing systems and to enhance to performance of parallel hardware system. As the concurrent programs are widely spead, complexity of control flow and data dependence has tremendously increased. That causes serious problems in debugging the concurrent programs. In general, concurrent programs have non-deterministic characteristics in their execution which can cause main reason not to use some traditional sequential debuggers for concurrent languages. In this paper, a couple of freezing techniques for the concurrent program debugging have been studied focusing on non-determinacy problem due to the shared memory race condition. The suggested techniques are a method using a refence image table and a scheme to apply P/V synchronization primitives.

<P>Five outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease have occurred in South Korea during 2000–2011. Macro-analysis of these outbreaks showed a correlation with outbreaks in countries in eastern Asia. Genetic analyses of food-and-mouth disease viruses in South Korea showed a correlation with viruses that are prevalent in neighboring countries.</P>
