Effects of human crowding and the physical attractiveness of others on customers in stores

This study examines how the physical attractiveness of other customers aff ects consumer emotions and behaviors in the context of human crowding in a fashion store. We propose that consumers’ store avoidance behaviors due to human crowding are aff ected by the physical attractiveness of other customers, and explain the mechanism as pleasure based on the S-O-R model. With a 2 (crowding level: high vs low) × 2 (physical attractiveness of other customers: high vs low) ANCOVA of 3D virtual stores, a lab experiment was conducted. Data from a total sample of 137 females was analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Analysis of variance and moderated mediation were performed. Results provide empirical insights about the interactive eff ect of store crowding and physical attractiveness of other customers on instore customers’ avoidance behavior, which is mediated by pleasure. Findings enrich the existing literature on store crowding and provide both theoretical and managerial implications.

Novel H8-binaphthol-based chiral receptors appended with an uryl moiety (2a) and a guanidinium moiety (2b) have been designed and synthesized for the enantioselective recognition of 1,2-amino alcohols via reversible imine formation. The selectivities (KR/KS = 9.8 ~ 19.4) of 2b in imine formation with 1,2-amino alcohols are higher than those of 2a (KR/KS = 1.8 ~ 4.5). Similar efficiency trend have been observed in the conversion of L-amino acids to D-amino acids, i.e., the efficiency of the receptor 2b (D/L ratio: 4.3 ~ 10.1) is superior to 2a (D/L ratio: 4.0 ~ 8.7).

Alcohol abuse is one of the health risk factors worldwide. It is known that the presence of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) has the greatest correlation with alcohol consumption. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted to investigate the alcohol consumption and nutritional status of ALD patients among Korean adults. A total of 156,790 subjects, 2,226 (1,921 males, 305 females) in the ALD group, and 154,564 (50,593 males, 103,971 females) in the normal group were included in the final analysis. Alcohol and nutrient intakes were assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. The ALD was defined as heavy alcohol consumption (male >40 g/day, female >20g/day) and elevated level in the liver function test. It was confirmed that ALD patients exhibited a higher total alcohol intake, the proportion of heavy drinkers, and increased total energy intake compared to the normal group, and tended to lack micronutrient intake through dairy and plant-based foods. Based on the results of the study, it is recommended to reduce the amount and frequency of alcohol consumption and to consume sufficient vitamins and minerals through dairy and plant-based foods for patients with ALD.
Consumer experiences in fitting rooms in SPA stores

This study explores fashion consumers’ experiences and behaviors in the fitting room, and tries to understand what their behavior means. The research design is based on the grounded theory and the research question is “What do fashion consumers experience in fitting rooms in SPA stores?” Customers carry out four major actions when using fitting rooms in SPA stores. Firstly, they inspect the physical and aesthetic aspects of the clothing items. Secondly, purchase decision of an item in consideration of its function and price, and the advice of the people who accompany them or friends via social networking sites are processed. Thirdly, consumers are simply enjoying trying them on as a form of entertainment. Fourthly, consumers explore other shopper’ choices when they are waiting in long line to use the fitting room. Then, “enjoying trying on clothes” and the conditions affect it were identified. The pleasure of trying on clothes can be experienced more readily when the reason for shopping is simply leisure, or when the spacious store, wide variety of products, the liberal and independent atmosphere in the fitting room are provided. In this context, participants regarded advice from sales assistants as rather burdensome.
광경화성 알파-메톡시아크릴레이트 단량체의 경화특성에 관한 연구

광가교형 시스템에 많이 사용되는 아크릴레이트 또는 메타아크릴레이트(MA)는 일반적인 광조사 파장인 365 nm 자외선 영역에서의 낮은 광반응성으로 인해 광개시제 혹은 높은 에너지 조사가 필요하였다. 아크릴레이트의 365 nm에서의 반응성을 증가시키기 위해 분자설계를 통한 이중결합의 HOMO 에너지가 조절된 알파-메톡시아크릴레이트(aMA)를 합성하였다. 새로이 합성한 aMA의 광반응성을 조사하기 위해 일정량의 UV 조사후 FTIR 스펙트럼 변화를 관찰하였으며, 알킬기로만 이루어진 1,6-헥산다이올(Hx)을 이용하여 에스테르화 반응을 통해 화합물 HxaMA와 비교군으로서 Hx-MA를 합성하였다. 합성한 화합물에 0에서 50 J/cmc² 365 nm 자외선을 조사한 후 FTIR 스펙트럼의 변화로부터 전환율을 계산하였고, 이로부터 aMA 가교기의 광반응성이 MA에 비해 약 3배 높음을 확인하였다. 높은 광반응성의 aMA RM(reactive mesogen)은 광개시제 사용이 제한되는 바이오 응용, 디스플레이 또는 광학부품용 소재로 응용이 가능하다. The acrylate or methacrylate (MA) group which is often used in photo-crosslinking systems requires high energy or photoinitiator because of its low photoreactivity under 365 nm. In order to increase the photoreactivity of acrylate group at 365 nm, we designed and synthesized the α-methoxyacrylate (aMA) with controlled HOMO energy level of double bond. The compounds (Hx-aMA and Hx-MA) were synthesized from 1,6-hexandiol (Hx) via esterification reaction. The degree of conversion of the synthesized compounds were calculate from the FTIR spectral change after UV irradiation of 0 to 50 J/cm² at 365 nm. The photoreactivity of aMA crosslinker was about 3 times higher than that of MA. A high photoreactive aMA RM (reactive mesogen) can be utilize to bio-applications, display or optical component applications where the use of photoinitiators are limited.
Rhizosphere microbiome structure alters to enable wilt resistance in tomato

<P> Tomato variety Hawaii 7996 is resistant to the soil-borne pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum, whereas the Moneymaker variety is susceptible to the pathogen. To evaluate whether plant-associated microorganisms have a role in disease resistance, we analyzed the rhizosphere microbiomes of both varieties in a mesocosm experiment. Microbiome structures differed between the two cultivars. Transplantation of rhizosphere microbiota from resistant plants suppressed disease symptoms in susceptible plants. Comparative analyses of rhizosphere metagenomes from resistant and susceptible plants enabled the identification and assembly of a flavobacterial genome that was far more abundant in the resistant plant rhizosphere microbiome than in that of the susceptible plant. We cultivated this flavobacterium, named TRM1, and found that it could suppress R. solanacearum-disease development in a susceptible plant in pot experiments. Our findings reveal a role for native microbiota in protecting plants from microbial pathogens, and our approach charts a path toward the development of probiotics to ameliorate plant diseases. </P>
