Four different ways of alternative transcripts generation mechanism in <i>ADRA1A</i> gene
Huh, Jae-Won,Kim, Young-Hyun,Lee, Sang-Rae,Kim, Dae-Soo,Park, Sang-Je,Kim, Hyoungwoo,Kim, Ji-Su,Song, Bong-Seok,Kim, Heui-Soo,Chang, Kyu-Tae The Genetics Society of Japan 2010 Genes & genetic systems Vol.85 No.1
<P>The <I>ADRA1A</I> (Alpha-1-adrenergic receptor) gene is one of the members of G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. Alternative splicing of this gene was known to generate four transcript variants which code four isoforms with various C-terminal regions. In this study, we conducted expression analysis and evolutionary characterization of alternative transcripts of the <I>ADRA1A</I> gene. In total, 10 alternative transcripts were identified using experimental approaches and <I>in silico</I> analysis. Among them, 6 alternative transcripts (T1, T2, T3, T4, T4-1, and T8) were validated by RT-PCR approaches and sequencing procedures. From the alternative splicing analysis, it could be assumed that there were three different alternative transcripts generation mechanisms and unknown mechanism. First one is the integration event of three different TEs (<I>AluSc</I>, L1MC5, and MIR3) as seen on the last exons of T3, T4, T4-1, T5, T6, and T7 transcripts. The second mechanism is a differential promoter usage on T8. The third one is a substitution event of the 3’ splicing site during the primate evolution on T3. The last one is an unknown mechanism which was identified in the T4-1 transcript. Therefore, alternative transcripts of human <I>ADRA1A</I> gene occurred by four different ways, such as integration of TEs, differential promoter usage, substitution of splicing sites, and unknown mechanism.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Within the framework for the development of a radio frequency driven positive ion source for fusion applications, KAERI is currently constructing a new high power large area radio frequency ion source. An impedance matching circuit maximizing the power transfer to a plasma in the ion source, while taking into account the technical feasibility, is preliminarily designed at a conceptual level. In order to estimate the plasma load impedance and design parameters, an integrated model composed of the hydrogen plasma global model, the two-dimensional electromagnetic model, the relative plasma dielectric constant calculation module, and the impedance matching circuit module is developed for the ion source with a rectangular tube geometry. By employing this design model, the design parameters dependent on RF input powers of up to 50kW are investigated and the preliminary design is assessed.</P>

Four fucosterol derivatives were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Hizikia fusiformis. The chemical structures of the sterols were elucidated as fucosterol (1), a mixture of 24R,28R- and 24S,28R-epoxy-24-ethylcholesterol at the ratio of 3 to 2 (2), and 24R-saringosterol (3), all of which exhibited proliferation activity on MG63 cells.

A 12-year-old spayed female beagle dog was presented with pollakiuria and stranguria. Abdominal ultrasonography identified irregular a marginated, hyperechoic mass in the urethra and trigon area of the bladder. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a heterogeneous mass in the trigone area leading to a urethra. There was no evidence of regional or distant metastasis. Cytologic analysis suspected transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). The patient was treated with piroxicam, mitoxantrone, and once weekly fractionated radiation therapy (RT) with volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). A follow-up CT scan at 6 months after RT revealed a reduction in tumor size. At 17 months after the start of RT, the patient became severely anorectic and lethargic. Ultrasound examination revealed a hyperechoic mass in the apex area of bladder while the trigone area of the bladder and urethra appeared normal. Multiple hypoechoic nodules of various sizes were found in the liver and spleen. The patient was humanely euthanized at the request of the owner. A combination of piroxicam, mitoxantrone, and hypofractionated RT with VMAT protocol was well tolerated. This case described tumor response and survival time of a canine TCC treated with piroxicam, mitoxantrone, and once weekly palliative RT using computer-assisted planning and VMAT.

A stable adaptive sensorless speed controller for three-level inverter fed induction motor direct torque control (DTC) system using the radial-basis function network (RBFN) is presented in this paper Torque ripple in the DTC system for high power induction motor could he drastically reduced with the foregoing researches of switching voltage selection andtorque ripple reduction algorithms However, speed control performance is still influenced by the inherent uncertainty of the system such as parametric uncertainty, external load disturbances and unmodeled dynamics, and its exact mathematical model is much difficult to be obtained due to their strong nonlinearity. in this paper, the mherent uncertainty is approximated on-line by the RBFN, and an additional robust control tenn is introduced to compensate for the reconstruction error of the RBFN instead of the rich number of rules and additional updated parameters. Control law for stabilizing the system and adaptive laws for updating both of weights in the RBFN and a bounding constant are established so that the whole closed-loop system is stable in the sense of Lyapunov, and the stability proof of the whole control system is presented Computer simulations as well as experimental results are presented to show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed system

Jet-M (Tav-Tech Ltd., Israel) is an instrument for skin resurfacing. When it sprays microdroplets of solution or shoots air on the skin, exfoliation and stretching of superficial layers can occur. So, it will increase percutaneous absorption of vitamins and other cosmeticagents. A cosmetic preparation containing β-glucan, rhodiolar extract, oligo-hyaluronic acid, copper-GHK, and tranexamic acid was used with jet-M in one patient. Anesthesia was not done and there was no pain during the treatment. A male aged 59 years was treated once a week for 12 weeks. In the clinical photos, wrinkles around the treated eye were greatly decreased. Skin biopsies were taken from treated and untreated areas. H&E and Masson’s trichrome staining showed collagen increase in the upper dermis. On the other hand, collagen IV was slightly increased. Fibrillin-1 and procollagen type 1 weregreatly increased and tropoelastin was also increased. There was no adverse effect during and after treatment.

In certain favourable cases, cross-ozonides 4 could undergo acid-catalyzed intramolecular rearangement to the corresponding 1,2,4,6-tetroxepanes 5 and monoozonides 6. All of the tetroxepanes 5 and monoozonides 6 have been isolated as pure substances and characterized by their ¹H NMR and ^(13)C NMR spectra.
