        Identification and expression specificity of chemosensory genes in the male reproductive system of Spodoptera exigua

        Some chemosensory genes are found to be expressed specifically or highly in the male reproductive system, suggesting their importance in male reproductive physiology. In this paper, we identified chemosensory genes expressed in the male reproductive system of the moth pest Spodoptera exigua by transcriptome and proteome sequencing, and further determined expression patterns of these genes regarding antennae and different tissues of the male reproductive system (testes, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, ejaculatory ducts, male accessory glands) by the real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR). Transcriptome analysis showed that 46 chemosensory genes were expressed in the male reproductive system of S. exigua, including 18 odorant binding proteins (OBPs), 12 che mosensory proteins (CSPs), 10 odorant receptors (ORs) and 6 other chemosensory genes. Further qPCR mea surements revealed that 14 chemosensory genes were expressed specifically or highly in the male reproductive tissues, relative to that in male antennae. Of the 14 genes, OBP17, OBP22, OBP27 and GR43 were specifically expressed in the testes; OBP20 was specifically expressed in the vas deferens; and PBP4 was specifically expressed in the male accessory glands. In addition, proteome data of the spermatophore confirmed that at least 4 OBPs and one CSP were transmitted from males to females, suggesting their function in the reproductive physiology of mated females. The results provide insights into the functional diversity of chemosensory genes, and bases for exploring functions of these chemosensory genes in male reproductive physiology.

      • Research and Implementation of a Vertical Search Engine in the Financial Domain

        The exponential growth of the data on the web makes it difficult for web users to locate and obtain the interesting information. The general web search engines, such as Google, Baidu, reduce the degree of difficulty to some extent. The rise of vertical search engine provides a promising approach to address the big challenge. A Chinese vertical search engine is urgently needed to provide professional financial information retrieval service for related financial institutions and government agencies. Therefore, in this paper we investigate, design and implement a vertical search engine in the financial domain. Based onNutch plug-in mechanism, we provide and implement the details of a vertical search engine in the financial domain, especially in the finance domain focused crawler. Experimental results show that, the finance domain focused crawler based on Nutch plug-in mechanism has good performance and can satisfy practical requirements of medium search application, and the system runs well.

      • Modeling Diode Reverse Recovery and Corresponding Implementation in Fast Time-Domain Simulation

        Existing power diode models in most time-domain circuit simulators cannot accurately present the reverse recovery characteristics of actual diode devices with fast simulation speed. Ma-Lauritzen model is a relatively simple solution for modeling the reverse recovery of diode with reasonable accuracy but so far little result has been reported on the methodology and process for applications in circuit simulators. Based on Ma-Lauritzen model, this paper proposes a configuration and implementation methodology for building diode models with reverse recovery characteristics in an ordinary time-domain circuit simulator like SIMPLIS. A silicon power diode 8ETX06 is selected for simulation speed and accuracy evaluation regarding the proposed modeling methodology and implementation approach. Furthermore, simulation and hardware test results on a switching power converter are shown to verify that the diode model following the proposed building method is reasonably accurate and fast in dynamic waveform emulation and component stress estimation for the reverse recovery process.

        Fault identification of a chain conveyor based on functional data feature engineering and optimized multi-layer kernel extreme learning machine

        The functional time series signals generated during the operation of electromechanical systems contain fault characteristic information. This study proposes a fault identification method for electromechanical systems based on functional data feature engineering and multi-layer kernel extreme learning machine (MLKELM) optimized by sparrow search algorithm (SSA). First, multiple time series signals under different fault conditions are functionalized under the B-spline basis function system, and the feature reduction space is constructed by functional principal component analysis (FPCA) and principal differential analysis (PDA) to extract fault features. Second, the minimum redundancy and maximum relevance (mRMR) method is performed on the initial feature set for feature selection. In addition, the size of the optimal feature subset is determined by the class separability of feature subset (CSFS) criterion. Finally, deep feature learning and fault identification are implemented by MLKELM and the pre-defined parameters are optimized based on the SSA in this process to improve its performance. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively extract the fault features of function time series signals, and then accurately identify the faults of electromechanical systems.

        A GPU-Accelerated Hydrodynamic Model for Urban Rainstorm Inundation Simulation: A Case Study in China

        Frequent urban rainstorm inundations can cause serious damages to human life and social economy. Reliable simulation of urban rainstorm inundation is an effective approach for performing flood risk analysis to reduce losses. In this work, a full 2D high-performance hydrodynamic model for urban rainstorm inundation simulation based on Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) was developed. The idealized V-shape catchment and sponge city district of Fengxi New City were selected as the study areas to assess performance of the model. The model was validated against analytical benchmark results of the idealized V-catchment test which show good agreement between the modelled flow and analytical solutions. The model was then applied to simulate actual urban rainstorm inundation process under measured rainfall. The results indicated that the model can be applied to high-resolution urban region simulations. Specifically, the validation results indicated that the proposed model had a good performance, with an accepted error of less than 15%. When applied to compute the Fengxi New city under design rainstorms with different annual return periods of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 years, it was found that the model effectively evaluated the temporal and spatial variation process of urban inundation, and quantitatively investigated flood risks according to the water depth change. The model has been substantially accelerated on GPU to quickly predict urbaninundation. The accuracy and rapid simulation speed of the model were verified based on the actual study area. Therefore, the proposed model can help to predict the dynamic processes of urban flood inundation and thus reduce flood inundation disasters. This is essential for future optimal sponge urban construction planning in China.

        Relationship between Dynamic Tensile Strength and Pore Structure of Saturated Concrete under Lateral Pressure

        The dynamic properties of concrete in two states (saturated and dry) were compared and analyzed through a series of dynamic biaxial tensile-compressive (T-C) experimentals. All specimens were subjected to constant biaxial T-C stress ratios (0.5:-1, 0.25:-1, 0.1:-1, 0.05:-1 and 1:0 respectively) at different strain rates (10−5s−1 to 10−2s−1 ). It was found that the biaxial T-C ultimate strengths of both kinds concrete closely relate to the lateral pressure of the specimen, and the independent tensile and compressive strength increases with the increase of strain rate. In the case of exerting lateral pressure, the failure states of specimens show same manner as that of the uniaxial tensile specimens, which indicates that the specimens were completely fractured under tensile loading. The test results show that the biaxial T-C strength of saturated concrete is lower at strain rates of 10−5s−1, whereas it is higher at the other three strain rates (10−4s−1, 10−3s−1 and 10−2s−1). This distinct difference indicates that saturated concrete is more rate sensitive under lateral pressure. Through mechanical analysis the article explains the reason of this phenomenon is mainly dued to the beneficial tensile stress of the pore water surface and the Stefan effect. Meanwhile, the strength prediction expression of saturated concrete was established under the condition of stress ratio and strain rate are considered simultaneously.

      • Experimental study on the injection and spray characteristics of biodiesel and diesel fuel within a common rail system

        In this paper, the injection characteristics and macroscopic spray behavior of biodiesel and diesel fuel within a common rail system are investigated. The injection rate is measured with Bosch method, spray visualization system is employed to study the macroscopic spray characteristics of both fuels. The results show that the injection delays of biodiesel and diesel are almost the same. Comparing to diesel, injection duration of biodiesel is a little longer and injection fuel quantity is a little larger. The macroscopic spray result shows, with increased injection pressure, the tip penetration of biodiesel becomes longer and the spray cone angle becomes larger. When ambient pressure increases, the injection tip penetration becomes shorter and the spray cone angle becomes larger. Comparing to diesel, injection tip penetration of biodiesel is longer and spray cone angle is smaller, because the kinematic viscosity and surface tension of biodiesel are larger than those of diesel. The difference of spray characteristics of both fuels is no longer obvious under higher injection pressure. With increased ambient pressure, the difference of spray tip penetration of both fuels becomes larger, and the difference of spray cone angle become smaller.

      • Ginsenoside Rh2 Ameliorates Doxorubicin-Induced Senescence Bystander Effect in Breast Carcinoma Cell MDA-MB-231 and Normal Epithelial Cell MCF-10A

        <P>The anthracycline antibiotic doxorubicin is commonly used antineoplastic drug in breast cancer treatment. Like most chemotherapy, doxorubicin does not selectively target tumorigenic cells with high proliferation rate and often causes serve side effects. In the present study, we demonstrated the cellular senescence and senescence associated secretory phenotype (SASP) of both breast tumor cell MDA-MB-231 and normal epithelial cell MCF-10A induced by clinical dose of doxorubicin (100 nM). Senescence was confirmed by flattened morphology, increased level of beta galactose, accumulating contents of lysosome and mitochondrial, and elevated expression of p16 and p21 proteins. Similarly, SASP was identified by highly secreted proteins IL-6, IL-8, GRO, GM-CSF, MCP-1, and MMP1 by antibody array assay. Reciprocal experiments, determined by cell proliferation and apoptosis assays and cell migration and cell invasion, indicated that SASP of MDA-MB-231 cell induces growth arrest of MCF-10A, whereas SASP of MCF-10A significantly stimulates the proliferation of MDA-MB-231. Interestingly, SASP from both cells powerfully promotes the cell migration and cell invasion of MDA-MB-231 cells. Treatment with the natural product ginsenoside Rh2 does not prevent cellular senescence or exert senolytic. However, SASP from senescent cells treated with Rh2 greatly attenuated the above-mentioned bystander effect. Altogether, Rh2 is a potential candidate to ameliorate this unwanted chemotherapy-induced senescence bystander effect. </P>
