Plasma levels of cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride(TG) physiologically increase during pregnancy. The lipid increment is 23-53% above the pregravidic level for TC and 2- to 3-fold of the prepregnancy level for TG. If the TC and TG are higher than normal values in pregnancy, the patient must be carefully monitored. Acute pancreatitis is the main consequence of hyperlipidemia and occurs either during pregnancy, in the third trimester, or in the puerperium. Mortality is high both for the mother (21%) and the fetus (20%). We report a case of 28 year-old pregnant woman at 29 weeks gestation with hypercholesterolemia (TC = 357 ㎎/dl) and severe hypertriglyceridemia (TG = 1300 ㎎/dl). The patient was admitted to the hospital because of severe epigastric pain, nausea and vomiting. Total serum cholesterol was increased and trigyleride was markedly increased. The electroporesis pattern of serum lipoprotein showed increase in pre-beta lipoprotein fraction, suggesting IV hypertriglyceridemia pattern. According to a review of the literature, the incidence of pancreatitis during pregnancy is 1 in 1000 to 3000 pregnancies. Severe hypertriglyceridemia in pregnancy should be treated with a careful restriction of calories and fat: for preventing acute pancreatitis, hospitalization for intravenous fluid therapy and plasma exchange must be required.
Cytokinin Stimulates Expression of the Chloroplast ATP Synthase VI Subunit Gene(atpl)

To investigate the signal transduction pathway of cytokinin, we incubated seven-day-old maize leaves in distilled water with or without 0.1mM benzylaminopurine (BAP). Several gene fragments were either induced or repressed by this exogenous treatment, and were then isolated by differential display-polymerase chain reaction (DD-PCR). One fragment (IBC4) had significant sequence homology with the N-terminal portion of the chloroplast ATP synthase Ⅳ subunit gene (atpl) of higher plants. After the stimulated expression of IBC4 by BAP was confirmed using orthern blot hybridization, we isolated the full-length gene, including IBC4, from the chloroplast genome. We verified it as an atpl gene, using BLAST search analysis. This atpl gene, designated as Zm-atpl (Zea mays-atpl), is 744 nucleotides long and encodes 247 amino acids. Its deduced amino acid sequence does not vary among maize cultivars, and it shares >90% identity with the atpl genes from Oryza sativa, Triticum aestivum, Nicotiana tabacum, Spinacia oleracea, and Pisum sativum. We also confirmed, by northern blot analysis, that expression of Zm-atpl transcripts was significantly stimulated by the exogenous application of BAP.

Electrodeposition experiments of gradually composite alloys were conducted using rotating disc geometry. Effects of rotating speed and potential on the composition of alloys were studied. Mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the gradually composite alloys were compared with those of the normally deposited alloys. Zinc content of Zn-Ni alloys increased as increasing disc rotation speed and voltage. However, Zn content of Zn-Ni-P alloys decreased but those of Ni and P increased as raising voltage. Zinc content of Zn-Fe and Zn-Fe-P alloys increased as raising voltage, however, Zn, Fe and P contents were not changed as increasing disc rotation speed. Corrosion resistance and adhesion of the gradually composite alloys for all the tested alloys were better than the normally deposited ones.
A Kinetic Study on the Electrodeposition of Fe-Zn-P Ternary Alloys

A kinetic study of electrodeposition of an Fe-Zn-P ternary alloy on steel in a chloride solution was carried out using a rotating disc geometry. The deposition rates of iron and zinc on steel are controlled by the rates of both electrochemical reaction and mass transfer through a diffusion layer, and that of phosphorus is controlled by the rate of electrochemical reaction. Zinc content in the Fe-Zn-P alloy increases with increased stirring speed and voltage, however, iron content decreases with increased stirring speed and voltage. Phosphorus content is almost constant with an increase of stirring speed in lower voltage ranges and decreases slightly with increased stirring speed in the higher voltage ranges.
