Purpose: To investigate the relationship between self-concept and mental health of physical therapy students. Methods: We recruited 179 currently enrolled college freshman, sophomores, and juniors studying physical therapy. The instruments used for this study were Rosenberg's Self-esteem Scale, Choi Chung Hoon's Perceeptual Orientation Scale, and the Mental Health Test modified by Lee. Results: The mean self-concept score was 3.97, a positive self concept, and the mean mental health score was 1.04. The mean dimension score for mental health ranged from: r=0.79$\sim$r=1.29. The relationship between self-concept and the mental health showed a negative correlation (r=-0.693, p<0.01). Conclusion: Modifications to the current program may improve self-concept and the mental health of physical therapy students.

Proteomics analysis of salt-induced leaf proteins in two rice germplasms with different salt sensitivity. Can. J. Plant Sci. 91: 337-349. This study was conducted to investigate salt-stress-related physiological responses and proteomics changes in the leaves of two rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars. Shoot growth and water content of rice leaves were more severely reduced in Dalseongaengmi-44 than in Dongjin under salt stress. The salt-sensitive Dalseongaengmi-44 exhibited a greater increase in sodium ion accumulation in its leaves than the salt tolerant Dongjin. Comparative analysis of the rice leaf proteins using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DGE) revealed that a total of 23 proteins were up-regulated under salt stress. Based on matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry and/or electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry analyses, the 23 protein spots were found to represent 16 different proteins. Ten of the identified proteins were previously reported to be salt-responsive proteins, while six, class III peroxidase 29 precursor, beta-1,3-glucanase precursor, OSJNBa0086A10.7 (putative transcription factor), putative chaperon 21 precursor, Rubisco activase small isoform precursor and drought-induced S-like ribonuclease, were novel salt-induced proteins. Under salt stress, fragmentation was increased in several proteins containing the Rubisco large chain. The results of these physiological and proteomics analyses provide useful information that can lead to a better understanding of the molecular basis of salt-stress responses in rice.

Purpose: Anastomotic leakage following low anterior resection (LAR) for rectal cancer is a serious complication that increases morbidity and mortality rates. Transanal tube placement may reduce postoperative anastomotic leakage rate by reducing intraluminal pressure and preventing fecal extrusion through the staple line. This meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of transanal tube placement to prevent anastomotic leakage after LAR for rectal cancer using a stapling technique. Methods: A systematic review of the literature was consistent with the recommendations of the PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) statement. Multiple comprehensive databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and KoreaMed, were searched. The main study outcomes were anastomotic leakage. Results: Two randomized clinical trials and 4 nonrandomized studies involving 1,118 patients were included. Subgroup analyses of randomized clinical trials found that transanal tube placement had no effect on study outcomes. Meta-analysis of nonrandomized studies showed that transanal tube placement was associated with a lower incidence of anastomotic leakage (relative risk, 0.32; 95% CI, 0.15–0.67; I² = 0%). Conclusion: Transanal tube placement may be effective in preventing or reducing the occurrence of anastomotic leakage after LAR for rectal cancer using a stapling technique. Randomized clinical trials with sufficient power are needed to confirm the benefit of transanal tube placement.

Abstract

Numerical simulation was performed to evaluate thermal patterns of Alaska pollock (AP) surimi paste depending on the dimension and the phase transition of sol to gel during conventional water bath cooking. AP surimi paste (76 and 80 % moisture) was molded into 2, 3.5, and 5 cm cubes and heated at 90 °C. Three simulation models were developed: using average thermal properties in the cooking temperature range from 20 to 90 °C (model A); the thermal properties at the average temperature of each dimension (model B); and the thermal properties including the phase transition region of each dimension (model C). Model A showed a relatively large deviation between the simulation and experiment. Model B reflected the effect of dimension on gelation and showed better fitness (maximum RMSE=5.01 °C). The highest fitness (maximum RMSE=1.67 °C) was observed with model C reflecting both dimension difference and a phase transition.
