<P>Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common inherited renal disorder. Although a myriad of research groups have attempted to identify a new therapeutic target for ADPKD, no drug has worked well in clinical trials. Our research group has focused on the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) gene as a novel target for ADPKD. This gene is involved in inflammation and cell proliferation. We have already confirmed that blocking RAGE function attenuates cyst growth <I>in vitro</I>. Based on this previous investigation, our group examined the effect of RAGE on cyst enlargement <I>in vivo</I>. PC2R mice, a severe ADPKD mouse model that we generated, were utilized. An adenovirus containing anti-RAGE shRNA was injected intravenously into this model. We observed that RAGE gene knockdown resulted in loss of kidney weight and volume. Additionally, the cystic area that originated from different nephron segments decreased in size because of down-regulation of the RAGE gene. Blood urea nitrogen and creatinine values tended to be lower after inhibiting RAGE. Based on these results, we confirmed that the RAGE gene could be an effective target for ADPKD treatment.</P>

Bumblebees (Bombus spp.) are important pollinators of agricultural crops and wild plants, especially tomato and sweet pepper species requiring large-sized and buzzing pollinators. The endoparasitic mite Locustacarus buchneri Stammer 1951 (Acari; Podapolipidae) was identified from commercial populations of the introduced European bumblebee Bombus terrestris. We report the genus and species of this mite for the first time in Koran fauna. Identification was based on morphological and molecular characteristics. Morphological details were illustrated and compared with those to the original description. We analyzed partial cytochrome oxidase I gene to un derstand the phylogenetic relationship and possible source of invention. The maximum likelihood tree and haplotype network revealed that the Korean population is closely related to Japanese population than European population. The ecological significance of this finding and possible consequences of the invasive species to the native species are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the grammatical and structural patterns of code-switches that Korean-English bilinguals have produced. We collected the Korean-English and English-Korean code-switching utterances produced by 60 Korean-speaking participants, and analyzed them under the grammatical constraints regulated by Poplack’s model and Myers-Scotton’s model. The results revealed several points in accounting for the grammatical and structural characteristics of the bilinguals’ code-switching utterances. We further discuss our results in terms of bilinguals’grammatical encoding based on Block and Levelt’s production model.

본 연구는 국내 유아교육분야의 상상력 관련 연구 현황을 분석함으로써 상상력 교육 연구 방향을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 1994년부터 2021년 1월 까지 국내에서 발표된 석·박사 학위 논문과 학술지 논문을 대상으로 상상력 관련 연구의 연구시기, 연구대상, 연구내용, 연구방법 동향을 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 상상력 관련 연구는 매년 꾸준히 수행되다가 2016년 이후 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 상상력 관련 연구의 연구대상은 인적대상(50.7%), 실천대상(28.6%), 물적대상(20.8%) 순으로 나타났다. 셋째, 상상력 관련연구의 연구내용은 실천연구(64.8%), 기초연구(35.2%) 순으로 나타났다. 넷째, 상상력 관련연구의 연구 방법은 양적연구(50%), 질적연구(26%), 문헌연구(24%) 순으로 수행된 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과를 토대로 유아 상상력 관련 연구 방향을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 우선 유아들의 놀이맥락에서 발현되는 상상력과 교사의 역할에 초점을 맞춘 연구가 요구된다. 또한 상상력 발현을 돕는 물리적 환경에 대한 연구와 상상력 척도개발 연구에 대한 관심이 필요하며, 상상력 교육의 실천 방법을 탐색하는 질적연구가 적극적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다. The purpose of this study was to explore the research direction of imagination education in early childhood education by analyzing the current status of research related to imagination in the field of early childhood education in Korea. To this end, the research period, research subject, research content, and research method trends of imagination-related research were analyzed for master s and doctoral thesis and journal articles published in Korea from 1994 to January 2021. Research Results First, research related to imagination has been steadily conducted every year, but has increased significantly since 2016. Second, the subjects of research related to imagination were found to be the most research subjects for children and teachers(50.7%). Third, the research contents of research related to imagination were in the order of practical research (64.8%) and basic research (35.2%). Fourth, it was found that the research methods of imagination-related research were conducted in the order of quantitative research (50%), qualitative research (26%), and literature research (24%). Based on these research results, the direction of research related to imagination that needs to be carried out in the future was suggested.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Because various stimuli can affect living organisms, substances that response to stimuli, such as H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>, have been studied for biomaterials. To synthesize a biocompatible H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-responsive ionic cross-linker, we synthesized a water-soluble H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-responsive diselenide compounds containing both sulfate end groups (diSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB>). The synthesis of diSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB> was evaluated by <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR and FT-IR. H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> responsiveness was evaluated by UV–vis spectra, FT-IR, and XPS. The optical density at 303nm due to diselenide in diSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB> was decreased in the H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> concentration increased. FT-IR and XPS results showed new peaks at 880cm and 3500cm<SUP>−1</SUP>, and at 63.0eV, respectively, due to oxidized Se, which indicated the cleavage of the diselenide bond in diSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB> as the H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> concentration increased. The ionic binding efficiency of diSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB> to cationic materials was confirmed by measuring the zeta-potential difference (from –15.6mV to 10.3mV) before and after mixing with chitosan. MRC-5 cell viability and apoptosis in the presence of diSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB> was evaluated using a CCK-8 assay and FACS, respectively. A high cell viability exceeding 95% was observed at 500μMdiSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB> over 48h of culture. In conclusion, the synthesized water-soluble diSe-SO<SUB>4</SUB> provides a H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-responsive ionic cross-linking material with a high cell affinity.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is characterized by abnormal proliferation of renal tubular epithelial cells, resulting in the loss of renal function. Despite identification of the genes responsible for ADPKD, few effective drugs are currently available for the disease. Thus finding additional effective drug targets is necessary. The functions of multidrug- resistance-associated protein 3 (MRP3) have been reported only in the field of drug resistance, and the renal functions of MRP3 are mostly unknown. In this study, we found that MRP3 was significantly downregulated in kidneys of human patients with ADPKD and polycystic kidney disease (PKD) mouse models. Our results suggest that downregulated MRP3 stimulated renal epithelial cell proliferation through the B-Raf/MEK/ERK signaling pathway. In contrast, we found that restoring MRP3 reduced cell proliferation and cystogenesis in vitro. These results suggest that the renal function of MRP3 is related to renal cell proliferation and cyst formation and that restoring MRP3 may be an effective therapeutic approach for PKD.</P>
