      • Human Papilloma Virus Frequency and Genotype Distribution in a Turkish Population

Akcali, Sinem,Goker, Asli,Ecemis, Talat,Kandiloglu, Ali Riza,Sanlidag, Tamer Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.1

Objectives: To determine human papillomavirus (HPV) frequency, genotypes and the relation between cervical smear results, risk factors and types in women living in Manisa, Turkey. Materials and Methods: A total of 410 women were included in the study. Cervical specimens were obtained for linear array HPV genotyping and pathological testing. Conventional Pap test and Bethesda system were used for evaluation of cytology specimens. Results: A total of 410 women with a mean age of 34.9 years were tested. A positive result of any HPV was found in 35 patients (8.5%). Among them, 26 different serotypes of HPV were identified and the most frequent type was HPV 16 (28.5%) followed by type 45 and 53 (11.4%). Patients were infected by 65.7% high risk, 11.4% probable high risk and 22.9% low risk HPV types. Multiple HPV positive results were found in 13 patients (37.1%). Patients with single partner, history of abnormal smear or condyloma had positive HPV results and this was statistically significant (p<0.05). Correlation analysis showed a statistically weak relation between positive HPV and abnormal smear results (r=0.120). Conclusions: Determining HPV types of genital HPV infections is important for epidemiological studies. We have found the rate of positive HPV as 8.5% which implies the need for extended screening programs in order to diagnose oncogenic HPV at an early stage.

Case Reports : Annular Plaques on the Tongue: What Is Your Diagnosis?

( Tuba Celebi Kayhan ),( Cemal Bilac ),( Dilek Bayraktar Bilac ),( Talat Ecemis ),( Aylin Turel Ermertcan ) 대한피부과학회 2011 Annals of Dermatology Vol.23 No.4

Geographic tongue is an inflammatory disorder of the tongue characterized by asymptomatic erythematous patches with serpiginous borders. Candidiasis of the tongue may be confused with geographic tongue. A 63-year-old male patient with painful white annular lesions localized to the left side of his tongue is presented. He applied topical corticosteroid and antiinflammatory agents, but his lesions did not respond to those therapies. Using direct mycologic examination and culture, the patient was diagnosed with candidiasis. After systemic and topical antifungal therapy, clinical improvement was observed. With this case, the clinical forms of oral candidiasis were discussed, and it was suggested that the clinical presentation of mucosal candidiasis may vary according to the stage of infection and individual immunity. • Poster Session : PS 0462 ; Genetics ; Different Effects of Polymorphisms in HLA-DR Locus are Possible Between Females and Males in the Development of Graves` Disease

( E Sacide Kozan ),( Salih Kozan ),( Yalcin Aral ),( Ahmet Yildirim ),( Mesut Akyol ),( Zafer Aydin Ecemis ),( Necat Imirzalioglu ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Graves` disease is more prevalent in women. HLA-DR locus, an immune response genes, is well-studied in different populations, but the difference in distributions of succestibility alleles between females and males are required to be clarifi ed. Methods: Totally 140 subjects consisting of 70 patients with Graves` disease (GD) (44 females, 26 males) and 70 controls (55 females, 15 males) were included to the study. Thirteen polymorphisms for DRB1 with DRB3, DRB4 and DRB5 were analysed by PCRSSP method. The difference in distributions of DR alleles were compared between females and males. A study model was designed for confi rming of Results: Results: None of DR polimorphisms, in existance or absence of alleles, was associated with GD among males. However, in absence of DRB1*07, GD risk was higher than the carriage of at least one allele in females (p=0.012, OR=9.56). In addition, the development of GD risk among females was higher in the carriage of at least one DRB1*15 allele (p=0.004, OR=4.67). Carriage of DRB5 was also found in association with GD among females with suggestive risk (p=0.003, OR=4.07). However, underlying cause of the risk was unclear due to the haplotype inheritance of DRB1*15/ DRB5. Conclusions: We concluded that, gender is an effective factor on the evaluation of the association between DR polymorphisms and GD.
