<P>An all‐solution‐processed flexible piezoelectric nanogenerator, composed of polycrystalline ZnO thin film and functional polymer layers such as P3HT/PCBM and PEDOT:PSS, generates energy through a mechanical rolling and muscle stretching system. On page 6022, Youn Sang Kim, Sang‐Woo Kim, and co‐workers show that this all‐solution‐processed nanogenerator is feasible as a piezoelectric patchable device and is promising for use in future energy harvesters such as wearable human patches and mobile electronics. </P>

Since 1970s, energy-saving design criteria of buildings has been improved through numerous revisions. The purpose of this research is to show how energy saving design criteria affects heating energy consumption of apartments using district heating. Heating energy consumption has been measured in 4 apartments located in Gyeonggi province, Korea from Nov. 1, 2007 through Oct. 31, 2008. Collected data was regressed to linear correlations. Heating energy consumptions were calculated for past, present and future energy-saving design criteria, which are outdoor temperature, ventilation and insulation. The results show that present design criteria has reduced heating energy consumption by 15%, and the future criteria will reduce the energy consumption by 42% compared to the criteria before 2001.
Comparison of Outcomes between Primary Closure vs. Patch Angioplasty in Carotid Endarterectomy
Woo-Sung Yun,Dong-Ik Kim,Kyung-Bok Lee,Ui-Jun Park,Young-Wook Kim,Gyeong-Moon Kim,Chin-Sang Chung,Oh Young Bang,Keon-Ha Kim 대한외과학회 2010 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.78 No.5
Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the short and long-term outcomes following carotid endarterectomy (CEA) with either primary closure (PC) or patch angioplasty (PAT) performed by single center vascular surgeons. Methods: Between November 1994 and March 2008, a total of 366 patients underwent 401 consecutive primary CEA procedures at our institution. We retrospectively reviewed patients’ medical records. Two vascular surgeons prefer routine PC and one vascular surgeon prefer routine patch closure using bovine pericardial patch. Postoperative neurologic complications were determined by clinical neurologists. Restenosis was defined as >50% stenosis on follow-up duplex scan. Data was analyzed to compare the early (≤30 days) and late results of CEA between PC group and PAT group. Results: The mean follow-up duration was significantly longer in the PC group than that in the PAT group (61.7 months vs. 41.2 months, P<0.001). Coronary artery disease and combined CEA with coronary artery bypass were more common in the PAT group (39% vs. 55%, P<0.002; 4% vs. 12%, P<0.004). Perioperative ipsilateral TIA/stroke rates in the PC and PAT groups were 1.5% and 0.7% (PC=4/270 vs. PAT=1/131, P=0.564). Regarding late outcomes, Kaplan-Meier analysis failed to show any difference between 2 groups on freedom from ipsilateral transient ischemic attack (TIA)/stroke, freedom from restenosis and TIA/stroke-free survival (P=0.851, P=0.232, P=0.103, log-rank test). Conclusion: Our results suggest that PC following CEA is not necessarily inferior to PAT for experienced surgeons.
The Crystalline Quality of Si Films Prepared by Thermal- and Photo-CVD at Low Temperatures
Chung, Chan-Hwa,Rhee, Shi-Woo,Moon, Sang-Heup The Korean Vacuum Society 1995 Applied Science and Convergence Technology Vol.4 No.s1
Various silicon films were prepared by thermal- and UV photo-CVD processes. The reactants were SiH4, Si2H6, SiH2F2, SIF4, and H2. Silicon films grown at temperatures below $500 ^{\circ}C$ were either amorphous or crystalline depending on the process conditions, and the growth rates ranged between 5 and $80\AA$min. Crystallinity of the film was improved even at $250^{\circ}C$ when the film was grown by photo-CVD using fluoro-silanes as the reactants. Analysis of the film by RBS, SIMS, XRD, and ex-situ IR indicated that substrate surface was contaminated by oxygen and other impurities when the reactants contained neither hydrogen nor fluoro-silnanes, but when fluoro-silanes were used as reactants the silicon film was highly crystalline.
Experimental Study on the Dynamic Response of Oil Seals
Sung, Boo-Yong,Shim, Woo Jeonm,Kim, Chung Kyun Korean Tribology Society 2000 KSTLE International Journal Vol.1 No.1
This paper deals with an experimental study on the dynamic response of an elastomeric oil seal when the interferences between shaft and lip as well as the dynamic eccentricities are present. The dynamic response of seal lip in oil seals was observed with the aid of an image processing apparatus. The temperature of the seal lip edge, friction torque and the dynamic sealing gap between shaft and lip are measured at different conditions of the initial interference and the shaft eccentricity, The data were simultaneously measured under dynamic conditions. Experimental results show that, as the shaft speed is increased, S/e$_{d}$ has nearly reached a constant asymptotic value fur a certain range of shaft speeds. The results indicate that the gap separation between shaft and lip is provided due to the shaft eccentricity because the seal lip cannot follow quickly the radial displacements with increasing shaft speed.d.

Although prosthetic materials are commonly used to repair abdominal wall defects, they are also associated with postoperative complications. These complications could be prevented by the adoption of uniform guidelines on surgical methods and materials, but the best anatomical position for placement of prosthetic meshes is unclear. We report a case of an enterocutaneous fistula that developed after an abdominal wall defect was repaired by intraperitoneal application of a prosthetic mesh (Marlexⓡ) to raise awareness of the consequences of improper use of prosthetic materials.

<P>We proposed a simple method, a thermally purified solution (TPS) process, to lower the fabrication temperature of solution-processed hafnium oxide (HfOx) gate insulator films. The TPS process is proceeded by transferring thermal energy to the HfOx precursor solution ‘BEFORE’ film formation. The TPS process could induce chemical reactions including pre-hydrolysis by thermal energy in the HfOx precursor solution. These chemical reactions reduce the required thermal energy for forming a solution-processed HfOx film and improve the film quality. As a result, the HfOx film fabricated <I>via</I> the TPS process has satisfactory dielectric characteristics: a breakdown electric field of ∼6 MV cm−1, a leakage current density of ∼10−9 A cm−2, and a dielectric constant of 10.23 at low temperatures, <I>i.e.</I>, below 200 °C. Solution-processed indium oxide (In2O3) thin film transistors with a HfOx gate insulator fabricated <I>via</I> the TPS process exhibit a field effect mobility of 3.67 cm2 V−1 s−1, an on/off current ratio of 9.8 × 106, and a subthreshold swing of 0.18 V dec−1.</P>
