Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) is one of the most important grass species in the world's temperate zones. It is used as high-quality forage in pastures and for recreational use as turf in golf courses, lawns and parks. Genetic improvement of perennial ryegrass is difficult due to its self-incompatibility. Consequently, progress by conventional breeding can be slow. Genetic transformation is an alternative that permits direct introduction of useful genes into a plant's genome and is becoming a powerful tool to complement conventional breeding. To improve environmental stress tolerance and quality of perennial ryegrass by introducing better and useful genes into the genome, we have developed a rapid and efficient transformation system using Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer system.
CASE REPORT : Brain Metastases of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma with Horner`s Syndrome

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common type of thyroid malignancy and has relatively favorable prognosis. Blood-borne metastases of PTC are very rare among the thyroid malignancies. Moreover a case of blood-borne central nervous system metastasized PTC with only unilateral Horner s syndrome, and without any abnormalities in laboratory or physical examinations has not been described before. A 53-year-old female patient had been managed in ophthalmologic clinic due to vague symptoms of right monocular blurred vision with eye dryness for 3 months, but showed no signs of improvement. So it was performed a magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography to evaluate the possibilities of cerebral lesion. And a left frontal mass was incidentally found, and the tumor turned out to be a PTC that had metastasized to brain, regional lymph node, cervical, thoracic spine, and lung. We describe a PTC with extraordinary initial symptoms that metastasized to an unusual site. We recommend that if a papillary thyroid tumor with unusual symptoms or at an advanced stage is found, further investigation should be performed for distant metastasis.

목적: To investigate whether subclinical hypothyroidism (SH) affects controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) results and pregnancy outcome in infertile patients undergoing stimulated intrauterine insemination (IUI). 방법: In our retrospective cohort study a total of 160 infertile patients who underwent IUI in COS cycles using GnRH antagonist multiple-dose protocol (MDP) between January 2009 and June 2013 were included. Forty-nine patients (30.6%) of 160 had a SH that is defined as an elevated serum TSH level associated with a normal free T4 level, and without frank symptoms of hypothyroidism. Results: Total dose and days of recombinant human FSH (rhFSH) required for COS were significantly higher in SH group than in control group. Miscarriage rate was also higher in SH group. Both thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOA) and thyroglobulin antibody (TGA) titers were significantly higher in miscarriage group than in live birth group. 결과: Total dose and days of recombinant human FSH (rhFSH) required for COS were significantly higher in SH group than in control group. Miscarriage rate was also higher in SH group. Both thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOA) and thyroglobulin antibody (TGA) titers were significantly higher in miscarriage group than in live birth group. 결론: SH in infertile patients undergoing stimulated IUI results in lower ovarian response to COS and higher miscarriage rate. Elevated TPOA and TGA appears to be associated with miscarriage.

목적: To compare the effect of long-acting recombinant FSH (rFSH), corifollitropin alfa with daily rFSH administered during 1st 7days of controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) using GnRH antagonist multiple dose protocol (MDP) in poor responders undergoing IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). 방법: In this prospective randomized study total of 90 poor responders who were scheduled for IVF/ICSI were enrolled and divided into the corifollitropin alfa group (study group) or the daily rFSH group (control group). The diagnosis of poor responder was based on the Bologna criteria of the 2011 ESHRE consensus. In all subjects, GnRH antagonist MDP was used for COS. 결과: There were no differences in patients` characteristics between the two groups. Duration of COS was comparable between the study and control groups. The numbers of oocytes retrieved and grade I or II embryos were also similar in the two groups. However, the number of mature oocytes was higher in the study group with a borderline significance (p< .07) and the ratio of mature oocytes among total oocytes retrieved was significantly higher in the study group of 78.6 ± 13.0%, compared with 61.2 ± 16.0% in control group (p< .001). There were no differences in the clinical pregnancy rate per cycle initiated, embryo implantation rate and miscarriage rate between the two groups. 결론: Corifollitropin alfa is at least as effective as daily rFSH treatment for COS using GnRH antagonist MDP, and may improve the synchrony of follicular development in poor responders undergoing IVF/ICSI. Therefore, corifollitropin alfa may be a feasible, patient-friendly alternative for poor responders.
HVAC System Power Consumption and Temperature Control Algorithm For OLEV<SUP>®</SUP> Application

In recent years, electrical vehicles (EVs) have been in the limelight as one of the green technologies that could be the key solution to global energy depletion and green house effects. In order to overcome the most common issues when it comes to EV introduction, mostly related to batteries, KAIST introduced the new concept of electric charging technology-applied vehicle, called OLEV<SUP>®</SUP> (On-Line Electric Vehicle). The key of this technology is that it enables EV to be charged whether it is in motion or at a stop by utilizing the inductive power transmission principal. In this paper, control algorithm of HVAC system for OLEV<SUP>®</SUP> is introduced. The main purpose of this algorithm is to control the amount of power consumed by HVAC system down to 20% and 25% of the suppliable power in case of cooling and heating respectively while maintaining the desired room temperature. This particular power management is necessary because the capability of meeting the customers’ expectations on driving distance and still have other functions work as conventional cars do with the minimum amount of charging time is the key to successful EV introduction We developed a proper set of dynamic models and control algorithms for HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air-Conditioning) system linked to gether with OLEV<SUP>®</SUP> system operation. Based on the operation conditions of OLEV<SUP>®</SUP>, the advanced control algorithm is applied considering several key parameters such as power being supplied from the road, battery SOC (state of charge), power consumptions from each component of OLEV<SUP>®</SUP> and room temperature. This control algorithm aims for HVAC system to maintain the driver’s desired room temperature while consuming only 20% and 25% of the suppliable power for cooling and heating respectively.

We report a patient with combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma confi ned in the common hepatic duct and scirrhous type of hepatocellular carcinoma in the caudate lobe of liver separately. The patient was a 55-years-old Korean man with hepatitis B virus (HBV) carrier who referred from a local hospital due to detected liver mass on abdominal computed tomography (CT). He has presented jaundice and weight loss for the previous 3 weeks. Laboratory examination showed AST/ALT elevation and hyperbilirubinemia. HBsAg was postivie. The tumor marker study showed elevated AFP and DCP, not CEA and CA 19-9. Abdominal CT disclosed an about 2. 1 x0. 9cm sized soft tissue density in hilum with both intrahepatic duct (IHD) dilatations and an about 3 x 2. 1cm sized arterial enhancing lesion at segment 8 of the liver. Patient received 15 cycles of Gemcitabine/Cisplantin chemotherapy from Feburary 27, 2013 to December 31, 2013. Caudate lobectomy of liver, segmental resection of bile duct and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy was performed on February 10, 2014. The fi nal pathologic report showed double primary liver cancer, combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma in common hepatic bile duct and scirrhous type of hepatocellular carcinoma in segment 1 of the liver. This is a very unusual case in which combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma confi ned in the large bile duct and two rare hepatic cancers coexisted.
