Developing a Data Model of Product Manufacturing Flow for an IC Packaging WIP System
Lin, Long-Chin,Chen, Wen-Chin,Sun, Chin-Huang,Tsai, Chih-Hung The Korean Society for Quality Management 2005 The Asian Journal on Quality Vol.6 No.3
The IC packaging industry heavily relies on shop floor information, necessitating the development of a model to flexibly define shop floor information and timely handle manufacturing data. This study presents a novel data model of product manufacturing flow to define shop floor information to effectively respond to accelerated developments in IC package industry. The proposed data model consists of four modules: operation template setup, general process setup, enhanced bill of manufacture (EBOMfr) setup, and work-order process setup. The data model can flexibly define the required shop floor information and decision rules for shop floor product manufacturing flow, allowing one to easily adopt changes of the product and on the shop floor. However, to handle floor dynamics of the IC packaging industry, this work also proposes a WIP (i.e. work-in-process) system for monitoring and controlling the product manufacturing flow on the shop floor. The WIP system integrates the data model with a WIP execution module. Furthermore, an illustrative example, the MIRL WIP System, developed by Mechanical Industrial Research Laboratories of Industrial Technology Research Institute, demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Background: The prevalence and incidence of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in patients with kidney transplant remains unclear. Methods: In this prospective study, we enrolled kidney transplant candidates (KTCs) and recipients (KTRs) from 2014 to 2018. We defined LTBI as a positive result of QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-tube (QFT). We analyzed the predictors for LTBI acquisition and followed QFT test for 2 years among those initially without LTBI. Results: Of 425 patients enrolled, 305 (71.8%) patients belonged to the KTC group and 120 (28.2%) to the KTR group. The initial QFT showed positive results in 33 (10.8%) and 25 (20.8%) in the KTC and KTR groups, respectively (p=0.007). The QFT response value in LTBI patients was higher in the KTR group than in the KTC group (1.85 vs. 1.06 IU/ml, p=0.046). Multivariate logistic regression showed that old age, absence of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin scar, and KTR group were independent factors for positive LTBI. For participants with initial negative QFT, positive QFT conversion within 2-year follow-up was higher after kidney transplantation (20%) than in KTCs (5.5%) (p=0.032). Conclusion: This study is the first cohort to follow up LTBI status in patients with kidney transplant and shows its higher prevalence and incidence in those belong to KTR. It indicates that surveillance of LTBI after renal transplantation is important.

An immune-enhancing strain, Lactobacillus plantarum Pi06, isolated from a healthy infant was used for biomass production following optimization of the medium in shake-flask culture. Preliminary studies showed that commercial MRS medium and cultivation under static conditions generated higher biomass production than four other tested media with or without a shaking condition. The selected medium composition, consisting of glucose, yeast extract, soy peptone, ammonium citrate, and corn steep liquor, was further optimized using a systematic method that integrated the Taguchi array design and the Box–Behnken method. The response effects of these factors were first investigated using Taguchi design under an L16 (45) array. The suggested medium composition, derived from Statistica 7.1 using the Taguchi design, was applied to cultivate cells and a biomass of 7.16 g dry cell weight (DCW)/L was obtained. Response surface methodology based on the Box–Behnken method for the three response variables of glucose, yeast extract, and corn steep liquor was then used to further increase the biomass level to 8.94 g DCW/L. The resulting optimum medium consisted of 35 g/L glucose, 35 g/L yeast extract, and 40 mL/L corn steep liquor. Compared with the initial medium, the biomass yield was improved from 4.31 to 8.94 g DCW/L, an enhancement of approximately 107%.

Background: It is reported that the percentage of smudge cells in the blood smear could be a prognostic indicator in chronic lymphocytic leukemia. However, the clinical significance of smudge cells in other hematological malignancies, solid tumors or non-malignant diseases is less clear. Hence, this study was conducted to survey the clinical significance of smudge cells in hematological cancers and other disorders. Materials and Methods: From January to November, 2015, the clinical data of patients who received blood examination with differential counts for clinical purpose and were found to have smudge cells in the peripheral blood film in Far Eastern Memorial Hospital were selected. The percentage of smudge cells and patient outcomes were evaluated for further univariate and survival analyses. Results: A total of 102 patients with smudge cells in their blood smears were included. Smudge cells were frequently presented in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA; n=30), infections (n=23), hematological cancers (n=23) and solid cancers (n=10). There was no relationship between the percentage of smudge cells and the patient mortality in all diseases (OR: 1.08, 95% CI: 0.47-2.48, P=1.000) as well as the OHCA group (OR: 1.91, 95% CI: 0.38-9.60, P=0.694). It was observed that in patients with all cancers with the percentage of smudge cells less than 50% had a lower mortality rate in comparison with those who had the percentage of smudge cells of 50% or more (OR: 22.29, 95% CI: 2.38-208.80, P<0.001). Additionally, it was seemingly that patients with smudge cells of 50% or more had a lower survival rate than those with smudge cells less than 50% in all cancers with follow-up at 2-month intervals, but without statistical significance (P=0.064). Conclusions: Our survey indicated that in all cancers, those who had higher percentage of smudge cells were prone to have poor outcomes when compared with the subjects with lower percentage of smudge cells. This finding was quite different from the results of previous studies in which the race-ethnicity of most study populations was non-Asian; hence, further investigations are required. Besides, there was no apparent association of the percentage of smudge cells with patient outcomes in all diseases, including OHCA.

Background/Aims Detailed characterization of the ultrastructural morphology of intercellular space in gastroesophageal reflux disease has not been fully studied. We aimed to investigate whether subtle alteration in intercellular space structure and tight junction proteins might differ among patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Methods Esophageal biopsies at 5 cm above the gastroesophageal junction were obtained from 6 asymptomatic controls, 10 patients with reflux symptoms but without erosions, and 18 patients with erosions. The biopsies were morphologically evaluated by transmission electron microscopy, and by using immunohistochemistry for tight junction proteins (claudin-1 and claudin-2 proteins). Results The expressions of tight junction proteins did not differ between asymptomatic controls and gastroesophageal reflux disease patients. In patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease, altered desmosomal junction morphology was only found in upper stratified squamous epithelium. Dilated intercellular space occurred only in upper stratified squamous epithelium and in patients with erosive esophagitis. Conclusions This study suggests that dilated intercellular space may not be uniformly present inside the esophageal mucosa and predom - inantly it is located in upper squamous epithelium. Presence of desmosomal junction alterations is associated with increased severity of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Besides dilated intercellular space, subtle changes in ultrastructural morphology of intercellular space allow better identification of inflamed esophageal mucosa relevant to acid reflux. Angiotensin II (Ang II) is a very important cardiovascular disease inducer and may cause cardiac pathological hypertrophy and remodeling. We evaluated a Chinese traditional medicine, alpinate oxyphyllae fructus (AOF), for therapeutic efficacy for treating Ang II-induced cardiac hypertrophy. AOF has been used to treat patients with various symptoms accompanying hypertension and cerebrovascular disorders in Korea. We investigated its protective effect against Ang II-induced cytoskeletal change and hypertrophy in H9c2 cells. The results showed that treating cells with Ang II resulted in pathological hypertrophy, such as increased expression of transcription factors NFAT-3/p-NFAT-3, hypertrophic response genes (atrial natriuretic peptide [ANP] and b-type natriuretic peptide [BNP]), and Gαq down-stream effectors (PLCβ3 and calcineurin). Pretreatment with AOF (60–100 μg/mL) led to significantly reduced hypertrophy. We also found that AOF pretreatment significantly suppressed the cardiac remodeling proteins, metalloproteinase (MMP9 and MMP2), and plasminogen activator, induced by Ang II challenge. In conclusion, we provide evidence that AOF protects against Ang II-induced pathological hypertrophy by specifically inhibiting the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) II/IIR-related signaling pathway in H9c2 cells. AOF might be a candidate for cardiac hypertrophy and ventricular remodeling prevention in chronic cardiovascular diseases.
The Neural-Network Approach to Recognize Defect Pattern in LED Manufacturing
Chen, Wen-Chin,Tsai, Chih-Hung,Hsu, Shou-Wen The Korean Society for Quality Management 2006 The Asian Journal on Quality Vol.7 No.3
This paper presents neural network-based recognition system for automatic light emitting diode (LED) inspection. The back-propagation neural network (BPNN) is proposed and tested. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristic data of LED from the inspection process is used for the network training and testing. This study selects 300 random samples as network training and employs 100 samples as network testing. The experimental results show that if the classification work is done well, the accuracy of recognition is 100%, and the testing speed of the proposed recognition system is almost one half faster than the traditional inspection system does. The proposed neural-network approach is successfully demonstrated by real data sets and can be effectively developed as a recognition system for a practical application purpose.
