The uniqueness and versatility of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) makes it an indispensable tool in monitoring almost any quantitative raw data from the environment. This paper reviews the characteristics and applicability of WSN to monitor seismic and infrasonic signals from active volcanoes. A sensor network deployment infrastructure that integrates to centralized data storage was proposed. This infrastructure was aimed to offer remote network monitoring, data management and maintenance. A simple and efficient reservation-based medium access control (MAC) protocol was developed for the proposed deployment. Using the network topology and parameters of the proposed sensor deployment, the performance of this MAC protocol was simulated in parallel with implementations similar to SMAC and TMAC. The simulation results indicated that the proposed MAC protocol performed better in terms of power usage, sleep and delay time.

As the AMR business expanded, It is necessary to understand the PLC characteristics of the site to build the entire AMI system. This paper deals with channel and noise characteristics in details from 2MHz to 30MHz based on the field tests over low voltage power line in Korea grid. And we analyze frequency which is measured by distance and consumer characteristics and suggest the direction of demonstration system for the AMI system. Finally we suggest that the coverage of power line communication is under 50m, and if the distance is over 50m, then it is necessary to use the repeater which amplifies the signal. And we found that noise characteristic is more related to the customer type rather than distance.

In order to avoid the electronic speed bottleneck, new optical switches/routers have been built for the next-generation optical Internet backbone network. Also new approaches which are called Optical Burst Switching(OBS) are under research, which combine the advantages of Optical Circuit Switching and Optical Packet Switching. In this paper, we proposed a new burst assembly method, which provides QoS through the differentiated burst assembly that can be used in the Internet backbone network. A simulator is designed to measure the performance improvement of the proposed burst assembly method over existing burst assembly method. The simulator runs under mixed traffic environment of real-time traffic and non real-time traffic. An exhaustive simulation study have been carried out to compare the performance of the proposed burst assembly method to the existing burst assembly method. The simulation results show that the characteristic of real-time packets of the proposed QoS-support Burst Assembly(QBA) method is better than that of the General Burst Assembly(GBA) method which are used in most of existing routing systems.
