• Robust Stabilization of a Class of Uncertain Fractional-order Chaotic Systems via a Novel Sliding Mode Control Scheme

Xiaomin Tian,Shumin Fei,Lin Chai 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.7 No.6

This paper proposes a novel sliding mode control (SMC) scheme to stabilize a class of fractional-order chaotic systems. Through constructing two sliding mode variables, the control problem of n-dimensional system can be transformed to the equivalent stabilizing problem of a reduced-order system. Subsequently, on the basis of second-order sliding mode (SOSM) technique, a robust control law is designed, which strongly attenuates the chattering phenomenon inherent in traditional sliding mode controller, and guarantees the existence of sliding motion in a finite time. The stability of two sliding mode variables to the origin is proved by conventional and fractional Lyapunov theories, respectively. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Purpose Since the number of personal information breach incidents increased, many people have perceived the importance of personal information protection, in the recent. Especially, the number of personal information breach targeting middle-aged and elderly people rapidly increases. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the factors which influence to fail of online information security behaviors among the elderly. Design/methodology/approach This study made a research model by adopting the factors deducted from the protection motivation theory. To analyze the research model, we conducted an online survey targeted on the elderly and middle ages users who have nations of Korean and Chinese respectively. Findings According to the empirical analysis result, we identified that only perceived severity and perceived vulnerability affected information security awareness. On contrast, it was also discovered that perceived barriers, self-efficacy, and response efficacy did not affect information security awareness. Additionally, the awareness of information security also did not affect information security behaviors. Middle-aged and elderly people with personal information protection education did more information security behaviors than people those who no education experiences. Korean middle-aged and elderly people with education significantly did more information protection behaviors than the people without the education.

      • On Modified Second-order Sliding Mode Synchronization of Two Different Fractional Order Hyperchaotic Systems

Xiaomin Tian,Shumin Fei,Lin Chai 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.10 No.4

A modified second-order sliding mode (SOSM) control scheme is developed to synchronize two different fractional order hyperchaotic systems. On the basis of chattering free SOSM control scheme, a special fractional sliding mode surface is firstly proposed. Subsequently, a robust control law is designed to ensure the occurrence of sliding mode in a given time. This control scheme is rigorously proved by Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed synchronization approach.

        Fluorogenic probes for disease-relevant enzymes

        Zhang, Junji,Chai, Xianzhi,He, Xiao-Peng,Kim, Hae-Jo,Yoon, Juyoung,Tian, He The Royal Society of Chemistry 2019 Chemical Society reviews Vol.48 No.2

Traditional biochemical methods for enzyme detection are mainly based on antibody-based immunoassays, which lack the ability to monitor the spatiotemporal distribution and, in particular, the in situ activity of enzymes in live cells and in vivo. In this review, we comprehensively summarize recent progress that has been made in the development of small-molecule as well as material-based fluorogenic probes for sensitive detection of the activities of enzymes that are related to a number of human diseases. The principles utilized to design these probes as well as their applications are reviewed. Specific attention is given to fluorogenic probes that have been developed for analysis of the activities of enzymes including oxidases and reductases, those that act on biomacromolecules including DNAs, proteins/peptides/amino acids, carbohydrates and lipids, and those that are responsible for translational modifications. We envision that this review will serve as an ideal reference for practitioners as well as beginners in relevant research fields.

Application of the body force method in the rim driven thruster

        Cai Boao,Tian Binbin,Qiu Liaoyuan,Xu Qing,Mao Xiaofei,He Wei,Chai Wei 대한조선학회 2022 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.14 No.1

The Rim Driven Thruster (RDT) has become a popular ship propulsion system in recent years. Due to the complex structure of RDT, a great number of computational resources are required to study the interaction between RDT and hull by adopting the discretized propeller method. This research looks into a modified body force method which is suitable for the RDT. To simulate self-propulsion of a trawler with a rim driven thruster, the Reynolds-averaged NaviereStokes (RANS) solver is used. In the modified body force method, three virtual disks are adopted to replace the propeller and rim rotors. Before correction, the interactions among the duct, the rim rotors and the propeller were studied. Through the analysis, it is found that the most suitable scheme is to take the open water curves of the propeller, of the “rotors þ duct” and of the RDT as the references for modification. The ducted virtual disks open water curve is modified in open water simulations until the result is consistent with the RDT open water calculation results. When used to self-propulsion simulation, the modified body force method is accurate and can roughly characterize the flow fields. The modified body force method saves a huge number of grids when compared to the discretized propeller method. Furthermore, the interaction between the ship and the RDT can be accurately modeled, which is critical for quickly predicting self-propulsion in ships equipped with rim driven thrusters. Finally, the modified body force method in this work is named as the body force RDT method.

Acid-hydrolyzed agricultural residue: A potential adsorbent for the decontamination of naphthalene from water bodies

        Mijia Zhu,Wei Tian,Hankui Chai,Jun Yao 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.4

Development and application of low-cost and effective adsorbents to remove polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from effluents has become a research focus in recent years. We selected reed stem, ginkgo nut shell and hazelnut shell as adsorbents, and used acid hydrolysis as a simple modification technology. The adsorption isotherms of naphthalene to raw and modified adsorbents were controlled by partitioning. The adsorption capability of the hydrolysed hazelnut shell was notably enhanced at a higher level compared with that of other adsorbents. Results showed that the adsorption capacity (17250.42 μg/g) of modified hazelnut shell was observed for an initial naphthalene concentration of 25mg/L, with a contact time of 72 h, adsorbent dosage of 1 g/L and initial pH of 7.0. Furthermore, the regeneration capability of hydrolyzed hazelnut shell indicated that it was a promising adsorbent for naphthalene removal in wastewater treatment.

Analysis of Fretting Problems Using a Numerical Method Based on Cauchy Singular Integral Equation

Lee, Choon Yeol,Tian, Li Si,Bae, Joon Woo,Chai, Young Suck Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2007 Key Engineering Materials Vol.353-358 No.3

Numerical analysis by influence function method (IFM) is demonstrated in this study in order to investigate the fretting wear problems on the secondary side of the steam generator, caused by flow induced vibration. Two-dimensional numerical contact model is developed in terms of Cauchy integral equation. The distributions of normal pressures, shear stresses and displacement fields are derived between two contact bodies which have similar elastic properties. The work rate model is adopted to find the wear amounts between two materials. The results are compared with the solutions by finite element analyses, which validates the application of the present method to fretting wear problems.

Variation of sexual dimorphism and asymmetry in disease expression of inflammatory arthritis among laboratory mouse models with different genomic backgrounds

        Wei Dong,Cheng Tian,Z. Galvin Li,David Brand,Yanhong Cao,Xiaoyun Liu,Jiamin Ma,Andy Chai,LindaK.myers,Jian Yan,Karen Hasty,John Stuart,Yan Jiao,Weikuan Gu,Xiaojun Cai 한국실험동물학회 2023 Laboratory Animal Research Vol.39 No.4

Sex difference has shown in the arthritis diseases in human population and animal models. We investigate how the sex and symmetry vary among mouse models with different genomic backgrounds. Disease data of sex and limbs accumulated in the past more than two decades from four unique populations of murine arthritis models were analyzed. They are (1) interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) deficient mice under Balb/c background (Balb/c KO); (2) Mice with collagen II induced arthritis under DBA/1 background; (3) Mice with collagen II induced arthritis under C57BL/6 (B6) background and (4) A F2 generation population created by Balb/c KO X DBA/1 KO. Our data shows that there is a great variation in sexual dimorphism for arthritis incidence and severity of arthritis in mice harboring specific genetic modifications. For a F2 population, the incidence of arthritis was 57.1% in female mice and 75.6% in male mice. There was a difference in severity related to sex in two populations: B6.DR1/ B6.DR4 (P < 0.001) and F2 (P = 0.023) There was no difference Balb/c parental strain or in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in DBA/1 mice. Among these populations, the right hindlimbs are significantly higher than the scores for the left hindlimbs in males (P < 0.05). However, when examining disease expression using the collagen induced arthritis model with DBA/1 mice, sex-dimorphism did not reach statistical significance, while left hindlimbs showed a tendency toward greater disease expression over the right. Sexual dimorphism in disease expression in mouse models is strain and genomic background dependent. It sets an alarm that potential variation in sexual dimorphism among different racial and ethnic groups in human populations may exist. It is important to not only include both sexes and but also pay attention to possible variations caused by disease expression and response to treatment in all the studies of arthritis in animal models and human populations.
