        해안매립지 하천의 수위 및 침수기간이 저수하안 식생공법의 식생피도에 미치는 영향 -인천광역시 심곡천 실험구의 사례를 중심으로-

        수위 및 침수기간이 저수하안 식생공법의 식생피도에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위하여 심곡천 실험구에 적용된 식생공법에 대한 시공모니터링을 수행하였다. 시공모니터링의 항목은 각 공법의 출현식물종과 피복도, 토양의 이화학적 특성, 수위 및 수질 등이다. 모니터링 결과, 2010년도 5월 1차 조사에서는 모든 저수하안 식생공법의 식물생육은 양호하였으나, 2011년 약 1주일 이하의 침수가 있었던 6월 2차 조사에서는 적용된 식생공법의 식물 생육상태 및 피도가 부분적으로 불량하였다. 그리고 조사 기간 중 침수기간이 약 8주로 가장 길었던 8월 3차 조사에서는 갈대를 제외한 대부분의 식생이 고사하였다. 하지만 침수기간이 2주 이내로 3차 조사 때 보다 수위가 하강한 10월 4차 조사에서는 식물의 출현종수와 피복도가 점차 회복되는 것으로 관찰되었다. 이에 정량적 분석을 위하여 식생공의 식물출현종수 및 피도와 수위, 침수기간에 대한 상관성 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 출현종수 및 피도는 수위 및 침수기간과는 음(-)의 상관성을 나타내었는데, 침수기간이 수위보다 다소 더 높은 상관성이 있는 것으로 분석되었다. The study performed the implementation monitoring of the revegetation methods applied to the test-bed of Simgok Stream in Incheon to identify the effect of water level and inundation period on the vegetation coverage of the stream bank revegetation methods. The categories of monitoring included the plant species and plant coverage for each method, physicochemical property of soil, water level and water quality. The result of monitoring revealed that plant growth conditions of all revegetation methods of each stream bank were good in the first survey as of May 2010. However, in the second survey of June 2011 when inundation period was less than a week, plant growth conditions and coverage of revegetation methods were partially bad. In the third survey as of August 2011 when inundation period was longest as 8 weeks during survey period, most vegetations did not survive except for Phragmites communis, But plant species number and plant coverage were increased gradually in the forth survey as of October 2011 when inundation period was less than 2 weeks so water level decreased more than that of third survey. Accordingly, the correlation analysis among number of plant species and plant coverage on stream bank, which applied revegetation method, water level and inundation period was performed for quantitative analysis. The result revealed that number of plant species and plant coverage has a negative correlation with water level and inundation period, but inundation period had higher correlation with plant occurrence than water level.

        Combined therapy involving electroacupuncture and treadmill exercise attenuates demyelination in the corpus callosum by stimulating oligodendrogenesis in a rat model of neonatal hypoxia-ischemia

        <P>We investigated whether electroacupuncture (EA) and treadmill (TM) exercise improve behaviors related to motor and memory dysfunction in a cerebral palsy-like rat model via activation of oligodendrogenesis. A neonatal hypoxia-ischemia model was created using Sprague-Dawley rats (P7), and these underwent EA stimulation and treadmill training from 3 to 5 weeks after hypoxia-ischemia induction. FA treatment was delivered via electrical stimulation (2 Hz, 1 mA) at two acupoints, Baihui (GV20) and Zusanli (ST36). Behavioral tests showed that EA alleviated motor dysfunction caused by hypoxia-ischemia on a rotarod test, and TM exercise alleviated motor and memory dysfunction seen on cylinder and passive avoidance tests. Combined therapy with EA and TM exercise showed synergistic effects on the cylinder, rotarod, and catwalk tests. TM exercise significantly restored corpus callosum thickness, and combined therapy with EA and TM restored myelin basic protein (MBP) levels in this region. While EA stimulation only increased activation of cAMP-response element hinging protein (CREB) in oligodendrocytes of the corpus callosum, TM exercise increased newly generated oligodendrocyte progenitor cells or oligodendrocytes via activation of CREB. Synergistic effects on oligodendrogenesis were also observed by the combined therapy. Furthermore, the combined therapy induced mature brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in the cerebral cortex. These results demonstrate that combined therapy with EA and TM exercise may restore myelin components following neonatal hypoxia-ischemia via upregulation of oligodendrogenesis involving CREB/BDNF signaling, which subsequently improves motor and memory function. Therefore, combined therapy with EA and TM exercise offers another treatment option for functional recovery from injuries caused by neonatal hypoxia-ischemia, such as cerebral palsy.</P>

      • Histological and functional assessment of the efficacy of constraint-induced movement therapy in rats following neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury

        <P>Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) is used in stroke rehabilitation to promote recovery of upper limb motor function. However, its efficacy in improving functional outcomes in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy has not been clearly determined in clinical or experimental research. The aim of our study was to assess the efficacy of a new experimental model of CIMT, evaluated in terms of mortality, stress, motor and cognitive function in rats having undergone a neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury. Neonatal HI injury was induced at post-natal day 7 through unilateral ligation of the common carotid artery followed by exposure to hypoxia for 2 h. CIMT was implemented at 3 weeks, post-HI injury, using a pouch to constrain the unimpaired forelimb and forcing use of the affected forelimb using a motorized treadmill. After HI injury, animals demonstrated motor and cognitive deficits, as well as volumetric decreases in the ipsilateral hemisphere to arterial occlusion. CIMT yielded a modest recovery of motor and cognitive function, with no effect in reducing the size of the HI lesion or post-HI volumetric decreases in brain tissue. Therefore, although animal models of stroke have identified benefits of CIMT, CIMT was not sufficient to enhance brain tissue development and functional outcomes in an animal model of hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Based on our outcomes, we suggest that CIMT can be used as an adjunct treatment to further enhance the efficacy of a program of rehabilitation in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy.</P>

        Comparison of Quality of Bologna Sausage Manufactured by Electron Beam or X-Ray Irradiated Ground Pork

        Ground lean pork was irradiated by an electron beam or X-rays to compare the effects of two types of radiation generated by a linear accelerator on the quality of Bologna sausage as a model meat product. Raw ground lean pork was vacuum packaged at a thickness of 1.5 cm and irradiated at doses of 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 kGy by an electron beam (2.5 MeV) or X-rays (5 MeV). Solubility of myofibrillar proteins, bacterial counts, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values were determined for raw meat samples. Bologna sausage was manufactured using the irradiated lean pork, and total bacterial counts, TBARS values, and quality properties (color differences, cooking yield, texture, and palatability) were determined. Irradiation increased the solubility of myofibrillar proteins in a dose-dependent manner (p<0.05). Bacterial contamination of the raw meat was reduced as the absorbed dose increased, and the reduction was the same for both radiation types. Differences were observed only between irradiated and non-irradiated samples (p<0.05). X-ray irradiation may serve as an alternative to gamma irradiation and electron beam irradiation.

        Axitinib (AXT) is a potent and selective orally administered inhibitor of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1.3 that contribute to the pathogenesis of solid tumors. The goal of the present study was to enhance the antiangiogenic and antitumor effects of AXT under hypoxia. Here we developed spherical polypeptide-coated hybrid liposomal nanoparticles (P-LNP/AXT) with a narrow size distribution and high loading efficiency. The cytotoxic effects of P-LNP/AXT on cancer cells were lower than those of AXT, and the human cancer cell lines SCC7, BT-474, and SH-SY5YP efficiently incorporated P-LNP/AXT. However, these formulations were not significantly internalized by the mouse macrophage cell line RAW 264.7, suggesting that they could evade the reticuloendothelial system. Western blotting analysis showed a significant increase in the level of expression of hydroxy-HIF-1a when cells were treated with P-LNP/ AXT. The growth of tumors in mice treated with P-LNP/AXT was significantly inhibited compared with controls. Further, elevated levels of caspase-3 and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase and reduced levels of platelet/endothelial cell adhesion molecule 1 (PECAM1, CD31) and Ki-67 in tumor cells suggested that tumor cells underwent apoptosis and that angiogenesis was inhibited within the tumor. Thus, P-LNP/AXT shows promise for cancer chemotherapy by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis.

        The Prevalence of <i>Coxiella burnetii</i> Infection in Wild Korean Water Deer, Korea

        <P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of <I>Coxiella burnetti</I> infection in wild Korean water deer (<I>Hydropotes inermis argyropus</I>) in Korea, by using serology and real-time PCR analyses. One hundred ninety-six sera were collected from 4 provinces and tested for anti-<I>C. burnetii</I> antibody detection, by means of CHEKIT Q fever ELISA kit; and <I>C. burnetii</I> IS1111 insertion sequence detection, by means of real-time PCR. Antibodies were detected in 18 of the 196 (9.18%) serum samples, whereas genomes of <I>C. burnetii</I> were detected in 13 of the 196 (6.63%) serum samples. Based on overall high seroprevalence, the public health implications of these findings are important, because they indicate that asymptomatic seropositive or seronegative wild animals may be consistently shedding <I>C. burnetii</I>. This is the first study of <I>C. burnetii</I> prevalence in Korean water deer in the Republic of Korea that has indicated the presence of infected animals throughout the country.</P>

        Fluorine Plasma Corrosion Resistance of Anodic Oxide Film Depending on Electrolyte Temperature

        Samples of anodic oxide film used in semiconductor and display manufacturing processes were prepared at different electrolyte temperatures to investigate the corrosion resistance. The anodic oxide film was grown on aluminum alloy 6061 by using a sulfuric acid ($H_2SO_4$) electrolyte of 1.5 M at $0^{\circ}C$, $5^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, and $20^{\circ}C$. The insulating properties of the samples were evaluated by measuring the breakdown voltage, which gradually increased from 0.43 kV ($0^{\circ}C$) to 0.52 kV ($5^{\circ}C$), 1.02 kV ($10^{\circ}C$), and 1.46 kV ($15^{\circ}C$) as the electrolyte temperature was increased from $0^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$, but then decreased to 1.24 kV ($20^{\circ}C$). To evaluate the erosion of the film by fluorine plasma, the plasma erosion and the contamination particles were measured. The plasma erosion was evaluated by measuring the breakdown voltage after exposing the film to $CF_4/O_2/Ar$ and $NF_3/O_2/Ar$ plasmas. With exposure to $CF_4/O_2/Ar$ plasma, the breakdown voltage of the film slightly decreased at $0^{\circ}C$, by 0.41 kV; however, the breakdown voltage significantly decreased at $20^{\circ}C$, by 0.83 kV. With exposure to $NF_3/O_2/Ar$ plasma, the breakdown voltage of the film slightly decreased at $0^{\circ}C$, by 0.38 kV; however, the breakdown voltage significantly decreased at $20^{\circ}C$, by 0. 77 kV. In addition, for the entire temperature range, the breakdown voltage decreased more when sample was exposed to $NF_3/O_2/Ar$ plasma than to $CF_4/O_2/Ar$ plasma. The decrease of the breakdown voltage was lower in the anodic oxide film samples that were grown slowly at lower temperatures. The rate of breakdown voltage decrease after exposure to fluorine plasma was highest at $20^{\circ}C$, indicating that the anodic oxide film was most vulnerable to erosion by fluorine plasma at that temperature. Contamination particles generated by exposure to the $CF_4/O_2/Ar$ and $NF_3/O_2/Ar$ plasmas were measured on a real-time basis. The number of contamination particles generated after the exposure to the respective plasmas was lower at $5^{\circ}C$ and higher at $0^{\circ}C$. In particular, for the entire temperature range, about five times more contamination particles were generated with exposure to $NF_3/O_2/Ar$ plasma than for exposure to $CF_4/O_2/Ar$ plasma. Observation of the surface of the anodic oxide film showed that the pore size and density of the non-treated film sample increased with the increase of the temperature. The change of the surface after exposure to fluorine plasma was greatest at $0^{\circ}C$. The generation of contamination particles by fluorine plasma exposure for the anodic oxide film prepared in the present study was different from that of previous aluminum anodic oxide films.
