Developing and Establishing a Wound Dressing Team: Experience and Recommendations

        Namgoong Sik,Baik Seunghee,Han Seung-Kyu,Son Ji-Won,Kim Jae-Yeon 대한의학회 2023 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.38 No.21

Background: The existing literature has comprehensively examined the benefits of specialized wound-care services and multidisciplinary team care. However, information on the development and integration of wound-dressing teams for patients who do not require specialized wound care is scarce. Therefore, the present study aimed to elucidate the benefits of a wound-dressing team by reporting our experiences with the establishment of a wounddressing team. Methods: The wound-dressing team was established at Korea University Guro Hospital. Between July 2018 and June 2022, 180,872 cases were managed for wounds at the wounddressing team. The data were analyzed to assess the types of wounds and their outcomes. In addition, questionnaires assessing the satisfaction with the service were administered to patients, ward nurses, residents/internists, and team members. Results: Regarding the wound type, 80,297 (45.3%) were catheter-related, while 48,036 (27.1%), 26,056 (14.7%), and 20,739 (11.7%) were pressure ulcers, dirty wounds, and simple wounds, respectively. In the satisfaction survey, the scores of the patient, ward nurse, dressing team nurse, and physician groups were 8.9, 8.1, 8.2, and 9.1, respectively. Additionally, 136 dressing-related complications (0.08%) were reported. Conclusion: The wound dressing team can enhance satisfaction among patients and healthcare providers with low complications. Our findings may provide a potential framework for establishing similar service models.

Vol.27 No.1

This case examines the process The Carlyle Group (“Carlyle”) acquired Yakjin Trading, an OEM-focused clothing manufacturer, through a leveraged buy-out (LBO), a rare case in Korea; and multiple exit strategies practiced by the private equity fund to recoup its investments. This paper offers opportunities to review both benefits and vulnerabilities of an LBO by discussing the private equity fund’s exit strategies. At the end of 2013, Carlyle announced its planned acquisition of Yakjin Trading at roughly 200 billion KRW, of which 90 billion KRW is borrowed from banks, with the managerial rights of Yakjin Trading held as collateral. Following the acquisition, Carlyle secured cash through a leveraged recapitalization in early 2015, using the cash in turn to purchase treasury stocks. Carlyle retired these treasury stocks against retained earnings, harvesting approximately 100 billion KRW. Carlyle also attempted to sell-off Yakjin Trading and with closed doors, talked to potential buyers in vain. After the struggle, Carlyle has been demonstrating a dual-track strategy, merging Yakjin Trading with Yakjin Holdings and pursuing both liquidation and IPO. This case walks readers through Carlyle’s acquisition process of Yakjin Trading and endeavors to collect invested capital, helps readers understand characteristics of an LBO, and offers lessons on how stock retirements against retained earnings differ from those against contributed capital and dividends. The story about a private equity fund’s investment cycle also displays shifts in financial status and management performances of the acquired firm, enabling an examination of effectiveness of exit strategies such as liquidation and IPO.

Empathy and Social Attribution Skills Moderate the Relationship between Temporal Lobe Volume and Facial Expression Recognition Ability in Schizophrenia

        정민지,Seung Yeon Baik,Yourim Kim,Sungkean Kim,Dongil Min,Jeong-Youn Kim,Seunghee Won,이승환 대한정신약물학회 2020 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.18 No.3

Objective: While impaired facial expression recognition has been closely associated with reduced temporal lobe volume in patients with schizophrenia, this study aimed at examining whether empathy and social attribution affect such a relationship. Methods: A total of 43 patients with schizophrenia and 43 healthy controls underwent a facial expression recognition task (FERT) and magnetic resonance imaging. Basic empathy scale and the social attribution task-multiple choice were used to measure empathy and social attribution. Results: Patients with schizophrenia showed significant positive correlations between the total temporal lobe volume and the FERT-accuracy (FERT-ACC). Diminished temporal lobe volume predicted the impaired facial emotion recognition ability. Both empathy and social attribution played roles as moderators of the path from the left amygdala volume, left fusiform gyrus volume, both sides of the superior temporal gyrus volume, and left middle temporal gyrus volume to the FERT-ACC. In contrast, empathy alone functioned as a moderator between the right fusiform gyrus volume, right middle temporal gyrus volume, and FERT-ACC. No significant interaction was found for healthy controls. Conclusion: Our results suggest that social cognition remediation training on empathy and social attribution, could buffer the negative effects of small temporal lobe volume on interpersonal emotional communication in patients with schizophrenia.
