A Note on How and Why Growth and Unemployment Go Hand in Hand in Developing Economies

Biswajit Mandal,Arindam Mandal 한국국제경제학회 2015 International Economic Journal Vol.29 No.4

This paper develops a simple model to explain the phenomenon of persistent unemployment, even in an economy experiencing high output growth. In the model, unemployment grows at a rate identical with the growth rate of input factors and sectors. The result is primarily triggered by a pre-fixed minimum wage for unskilled workers. To corroborate our claim, we have empirically tested our model hypothesis using data for 12 developing countries and found empirical results consistent with the theory. To mitigate or reduce unemployment, history becomes crucial in deciding on the desired rate of growth in different sectors.

Maxwell–Wagner-type relaxation behavior through impedance spectral analysis of YMnO3 single crystal

Midya Arindam,Mandal Bikash,Patra Moumita 한국물리학회 2023 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.83 No.5

Single crystalline YMnO3 has been investigated through the temperature- dependent dielectric and conductivity analysis in between the temperature region 100 and 320 K with frequency range from 20 to 100 kHz. A distinct peak has been observed in temperature-dependent dielectric loss (tanδ) which has been shifted to higher temperature with frequency. The activation energy has been calculated as 0.44eV from peak shifting of tanδ. To explore the bulk and electrode contribution of the sample, impedance spectral analysis of the obtained dielectric data has been performed which suggests the presence of a Maxwell–Wagner-type interfacial effect in addition with intrinsic effect. It was found that the activation energy 0.44–0.46 eV obtained from the Arrhenius fit is similar to the value from the obtained parameter from the Nyquist plot.

        Piperazine-activated diethanolamine formulation for post-combustion CO2 capture

        Bisweswar Das,Haijun Guo,Lian Xiong,Bishnupada Mandal,Arindam Modak,Kamal Kishore Pant,Xinde Chen 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.118 No.-

Although activated alkanolamine based solvents had great potential for energy-efficient post-combustionCO2 capture, yet these suffers from disadvantageous due to high capital cost of the process. In thisresearch we developed and discussed the overall reaction scheme between CO2 and activated solvents. We investigated the kinetics of CO2 into piperazine (PZ) activated aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) bywetted-wall column contactor at (298–323) K, (5–15) kPa and fixed 3.0 kmol∙m3. Physicochemical propertiesof such systems were determined while detailed uncertainty analysis were conducted. In thermodynamicspoint of view, liquid–liquid interaction were explored and evaluated by related parameters. The kinetics rate parameters for such activated solvents were interpreted based on kinetic study affordingto the pseudo-first-order reaction method. At various temperature, kov of (PZ + DEA + H2O) were considerablylarger than reported (AMP + PZ + H2O) systems. The results of kinetics study demonstrated thatrate of CO2 in solvents were enhanced substantially as compared to DEA due to the addition of low quantity(0–0.45 kmol∙m3) PZ into solvents. Besides, physicochemical properties were measured in terms ofdifferent models with absolute average deviation (AAD) < 5 %. Ultimately, (PZ + DEA + H2O) may be consideredas vital solvents in amine scrubbing due to lower energy requirement for CO2 capture comparedto (PZ + MEA + H2O).
