This study aimed to describe and compare the pacing strategy and performance of world level under 19 (U19), under 23(U23) and senior single scullers during world championship races. Data are from 8 years of Rowing World Championships A and B finals of single scull races for U19, U23 and senior age scullers. Pacing was determined for velocity, stroke rate and, distance per stroke (SD). Scullers presented a fast start strategy for all races investigated. There was no significant difference in pacing between age groups. Velocity peaked at the 100m (U19) and 150m (U23 and senior) mark. The scullers in the older age groups showed superior performance scores of the studied variables. U19, Under 23 and senior single scullers present similar pacing regardless of their age group. Performance of single sculler improve from U19, to U23 to senior for both lightweight and heavyweight classes. The results of this study may serve as a reference for athletes, coaches, and sports scientists to be implemented in training.

Powder, agglomerates, and tablets of the microporous zirconium(IV)terephthalate metal–organic framework UiO-66 were evaluatedfor the selective adsorption and separation of xylene isomers in theliquid phase using n-heptane as the eluent. Pulseexperiments, performed at 313 K in the presence of n-heptane, revealed the o-xylene preference of thismaterial, which was further confirmed by binary and multicomponentbreakthrough experiments in the presence of m- and p-xylene, resulting in selectivities at 313 K of 1.8 and2.4 with regards to m-xylene and p-xylene, respectively. Additionally, because p-xyleneis the less retained isomer, UiO-66 presents a selectivity patternthat is reverse of that of the xylenes' molecular dimension with respectto shape selectivity. The shaping of the material as tablets did notsignificantly change its selectivity toward the o-xylene isomer or toward p-xylene, which was theless retained isomer, despite a loss in capacity. Finally, the selectivitybehavior of UiO-66 in the liquid n-heptane phasemakes it a suitable material for o-xylene separationin the extract (heavy product) or p-xylene separationin the raffinate (light product) by simulated moving bed technology.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

In the present study, the pharmacological effects of 2,8-dihydroxy-1,6-dimethoxyxanthone from the bark of Haploclathra paniculata were investigated in mice using in vivo inflammation and nociception models. Acetic acid-induced writhing, paw licking induced by formalin, hot plate, and carrageenan-induced paw edema tests were used to investigate the antiinflammatory and antinociceptive activities of the xanthone compound. Xanthone, at both doses, inhibited abdominal writhing and the formalin test. At a dose of 20mg/kg, the time of reaction to the hot plate increased, and significant effects were observed after 30, 60 and 90min of treatment. At doses of 10 and 20mg/kg p.o., the 2,8-dihydroxy-1,6-dimethoxyxanthone significantly reduced paw edema at 3 h after the stimulus. The tests also showed no acute toxicity of the xanthone compound in mice. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging ability was also studied and confirmed the antioxidant activity of the xanthone. To propose the mechanism of action of anti-inflammatory activity of the xanthone, a molecular docking was performed using the isoenzymes cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 and the results indicate that the molecule is capable of inhibiting both the enzymes. Therefore, it can be concluded that 2,8-dihydroxy-1,6-dimethoxyxanthone from H. paniculata demonstrates analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities.

The restorative procedure in posterior teeth involves clinical steps related to professional skill, especially when using the incremental technique, which may fail in the long term. A recent alternative is bulk-fill resins, which can reduce polymerization shrinkage, decreasing clinical problems such as marginal leakage, secondary caries, and fracture. This scientific study aims to report a clinical case using bulk-fill resin with an occlusal matrix. As determined in the treatment plan, an acrylic resin matrix was produced to establish an improved oral and aesthetic rehabilitation of the right mandibular first molar, which presented a carious lesion with dentin involvement. The occlusal matrix is a simple technique that maintains the original dental anatomy, showing satisfactory results regarding function and aesthetic rehabilitation.
