A novel sialic acid-specific lectin (MCsialec) was detected from an expressed sequenced tag (EST) sequence from manila clam hemocytes infected with Perkinsus olseni (Kang et al. 2006, Dev. Comp. Immunol. 30, 1119–1131). The cDNA of the lectin was cloned using gene-specific primers based on a previously determined EST and characterized. The full-length cDNA of MCsialec is 603bp in length and encodes a polypeptide of 200 amino acids with a calculated molecular mass of 21.928 kDa. Sequence alignment and protein motif analyses showed that MCsialec shares identity with sialic acid-specific invertebrate lectins from Cepaea hortensis, Helix pomatia, and Haliotis discus discus. The lectin was expressed in E.coli M15cells and purified using a Ni-NTA His-binding resin matrix for antibody production. The presence of the lectin in various tissues of Perkinsus-infected and -uninfected manila clams was analyzed by both PCR and immunohistochemical localization assays. MCsialec was detected in each tissue of the clams; however, upon infection, the level of expression of the lectin increased in each tissue. Vibrio tapetis infection also induced high-level expression of MCsialec in the hemocytes. These data suggest that MCsialec plays a crucial role in the immune system of the manila clam during pathogenic infection.
Experimental Study on Drain Ability of Water in the Flow Channels of Fuel Cell

This present study aims to investigate a relation between water-draining ability and geometries of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell flow channels by performing water-removal tests on the bipolar plate component of the fuel cell. The cathode side of the fuel cell flow field should be optimally hydrated, meaning the flow channels should allow a balanced water formation and removal to maintain a good proton conductivity in the bipolar plate and to ensure the oxygen transport to the gas diffusion layer (GDL) is not clogged.[1,2] The square-shaped bipolar plates tested in this study are all equipped with different flow fields and active areas. The water-removal tests were done by measuring the mass of each bipolar plate with its respective GDL using an electronic balance, and then, each flow field was filled with enough water to flood the entire flow field before covering it with the GDL. Air with a constant pressure of 200 kPa and volume flow rate of 0.076 L/min·cm² through the flow channels for 60 seconds. The mass difference between the bipolar plate and GDL after and before each test represents the mass of remaining water in its respective flow channels. Thus, the ratio of the volume of the remaining water to the total flow channels volume can be determined. The experiment result confirmed that the flow field with a larger active area has a better water-removal capability compared to the one with a smaller active area and same channel depth. Furthermore, the flow field with shallower channel attains less water in the flow channels compared to the flow field with a deeper channel and same active area. [그림 본문 참조]

Lectin has been played a key innate immune parameter in invertebrate host defense. Previously, we reported a novel sialic acid specific lectin (MC-sialec) cloned from EST sequence of Manila clam hemocytes infected with Perkinsus olseni. The lectin was expressed in E. coli M 15 and purified by Ni-NTA His binding resin matrix for antibody production. Lectin specific antibody was raised in mice. The presence of this lectin in different tissues of Perkinsus infected manila clam was studied by both Real Time-PCR and immunohistochemical localization assay. The results showed that upon infection, expression of MC-sialec was induced and expressed in foot, gill, adductor, mantle, hemocyte, stomach, intestine and digestive gland, siphon, palp and female gonad. Vibrio Tapetis infection induced expression of MC-sialec in hemocytes.

The (anti-)hypertriton has been reconstructed via its charged two-body mesonic decay channel and the lifetime has been determined from an exponential fit to the d<I>N</I>/d(<I>ct</I>) spectrum. The measured value, τ = 242 − 38 + 34 (stat.) ± 17 (syst.) ps, is compatible with representative theoretical predictions, thus contributing to the solution of the longstanding hypertriton lifetime puzzle.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The jet radial structure and particle transverse momentum ( p T ) composition within jets are presented in centrality-selected Pb–Pb collisions at s NN = 2.76 TeV. Track-based jets, which are also called charged jets, were reconstructed with a resolution parameter of R = 0.3 at midrapidity | η ch jet | < 0.6 for transverse momenta p T , ch jet = 30 –120 GeV/<I>c</I>. Jet–hadron correlations in relative azimuth and pseudorapidity space ( Δ φ , Δ η ) are measured to study the distribution of the associated particles around the jet axis for different p T , assoc -ranges between 1 and 20 GeV/<I>c</I>. The data in Pb–Pb collisions are compared to reference distributions for pp collisions, obtained using embedded PYTHIA simulations. The number of high- p T associate particles ( 4 < p T , assoc < 20 GeV/<I>c</I>) in Pb–Pb collisions is found to be suppressed compared to the reference by 30 to 10%, depending on centrality. The radial particle distribution relative to the jet axis shows a moderate modification in Pb–Pb collisions with respect to PYTHIA. High- p T associate particles are slightly more collimated in Pb–Pb collisions compared to the reference, while low- p T associate particles tend to be broadened. The results, which are presented for the first time down to p T , ch jet = 30 GeV/<I>c</I> in Pb–Pb collisions, are compatible with both previous jet–hadron-related measurements from the CMS Collaboration and jet shape measurements from the ALICE Collaboration at higher p T , and add further support for the established picture of in-medium parton energy loss.</P>
