<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The production of <SUP> Z 0 </SUP> bosons at large rapidities in Pb–Pb collisions at <SUB> s NN </SUB> = 5.02 TeV is reported. <SUP> Z 0 </SUP> candidates are reconstructed in the dimuon decay channel ( <SUP> Z 0 </SUP> → <SUP> μ + </SUP> <SUP> μ − </SUP> ), based on muons selected with pseudo-rapidity − 4.0 < η < − 2.5 and <SUB> p T </SUB> > 20 GeV/ c . The invariant yield and the nuclear modification factor, <SUB> R AA </SUB> , are presented as a function of rapidity and collision centrality. The value of <SUB> R AA </SUB> for the 0–20% central Pb–Pb collisions is 0.67 ± 0.11 (stat.) ± 0.03 (syst.) ± 0.06 (corr. syst.) , exhibiting a deviation of 2.6<I>σ</I> from unity. The results are well-described by calculations that include nuclear modifications of the parton distribution functions, while the predictions using vacuum PDFs deviate from data by 2.3<I>σ</I> in the 0–90% centrality class and by 3<I>σ</I> in the 0–20% central collisions.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, the event-by-event variation of the elliptic flow <SUB> v 2 </SUB> reflects fluctuations in the shape of the initial state of the system. This allows to select events with the same centrality but different initial geometry. This selection technique, Event Shape Engineering, has been used in the analysis of charge-dependent two- and three-particle correlations in Pb–Pb collisions at <SUB> s NN </SUB> = 2.76 TeV. The two-particle correlator 〈 cos ( <SUB> φ α </SUB> − <SUB> φ β </SUB> ) 〉 , calculated for different combinations of charges <I>α</I> and <I>β</I>, is almost independent of <SUB> v 2 </SUB> (for a given centrality), while the three-particle correlator 〈 cos ( <SUB> φ α </SUB> + <SUB> φ β </SUB> − 2 <SUB> Ψ 2 </SUB> ) 〉 scales almost linearly both with the event <SUB> v 2 </SUB> and charged-particle pseudorapidity density. The charge dependence of the three-particle correlator is often interpreted as evidence for the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME), a parity violating effect of the strong interaction. However, its measured dependence on <SUB> v 2 </SUB> points to a large non-CME contribution to the correlator. Comparing the results with Monte Carlo calculations including a magnetic field due to the spectators, the upper limit of the CME signal contribution to the three-particle correlator in the 10–50% centrality interval is found to be 26–33% at 95% confidence level.</P>
D -Meson Azimuthal Anisotropy in Midcentral Pb-Pb Collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

<P>The azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v(2) of prompt D-0, D+, D*+, and D-s(+) mesons was measured in midcentral (30%-50% centrality class) Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair root s(NN)=5.02 TeV, with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The D mesons were reconstructed via their hadronic decays at midrapidity, |y| < 0.8, in the transverse momentum interval 1 < p(T) < 24 GeV/c. The measured D-meson v(2) has similar values as that of charged pions. The D-s(+) v(2), measured for the first time, is found to be compatible with that of nonstrange D mesons. The measurements are compared with theoretical calculations of charm-quark transport in a hydrodynamically expanding medium and have the potential to constrain medium parameters.</P>

Background/Aims Gastrointestinal symptoms and hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction are frequently observed in patients with major depression. The primary aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between HPA-axis function and self-perceived functional gastrointestinal symptoms in major depression. Methods Patients with major depression (n = 73) and controls representative of the general population (n = 146) underwent a weightadjusted very low dose dexamethasone suppression test (DST). Patients and controls completed the gastrointestinal symptom rating scale-iritable bowel syndrome (GSRS-IBS) and the hospital anxiety depression scale. Medical records of the patients were screened over a ten year period for functional gastrointestinal disorder and pain conditions. Results Patients with high GSRS-IBS scores (above median) exhibited HPA-axis hypersuppression more often than controls (defined by the lowest 10% cutoff of the post-DST cortisol values among controls, adjusted OR 7.25, CI 1.97-26.7) whereas patients with low GSRS-IBS scores did not differ from controls concerning their post-DST cortisol values. Patients who had consulted primary care for functional gastrointestinal disorder (P = 0.039), lumbago (P = 0.006) and chronic multifocal pain (P = 0.057) also exhibited an increased frequency of hypersuppression. Conclusions HPA-axis hypersuppression is associated with functional gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with major depression. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2016;22:292-303)

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The second and the third order anisotropic flow, <SUB> V 2 </SUB> and <SUB> V 3 </SUB> , are mostly determined by the corresponding initial spatial anisotropy coefficients, <SUB> ε 2 </SUB> and <SUB> ε 3 </SUB> , in the initial density distribution. In addition to their dependence on the same order initial anisotropy coefficient, higher order anisotropic flow, <SUB> V n </SUB> ( n > 3 ), can also have a significant contribution from lower order initial anisotropy coefficients, which leads to mode-coupling effects. In this Letter we investigate the linear and non-linear modes in higher order anisotropic flow <SUB> V n </SUB> for n = 4 , 5, 6 with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are done for particles in the pseudorapidity range | η | < 0.8 and the transverse momentum range 0.2 < <SUB> p T </SUB> < 5.0 GeV / c as a function of collision centrality. The results are compared with theoretical calculations and provide important constraints on the initial conditions, including initial spatial geometry and its fluctuations, as well as the ratio of the shear viscosity to entropy density of the produced system.</P>
First measurement of Ξ c 0 production in pp collisions at s = 7 TeV

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The production of the charm-strange baryon Ξ c 0 is measured for the first time at the LHC via its semileptonic decay into e Ξ − + <SUB> ν e </SUB> in pp collisions at s = 7 TeV with the ALICE detector. The transverse momentum ( <SUB> p T </SUB> ) differential cross section multiplied by the branching ratio is presented in the interval 1 < <SUB> p T </SUB> < 8 GeV / c at mid-rapidity, | y | < 0.5 . The transverse momentum dependence of the Ξ c 0 baryon production relative to the <SUP> D 0 </SUP> meson production is compared to predictions of event generators with various tunes of the hadronisation mechanism, which are found to underestimate the measured cross-section ratio.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The ALICE Collaboration reports the measurement of semi-inclusive distributions of charged-particle jets recoiling from a high-transverse momentum trigger hadron in p–Pb collisions at <SUB> s NN </SUB> = 5.02 TeV. Jets are reconstructed from charged-particle tracks using the anti- <SUB> k T </SUB> algorithm with resolution parameter R = 0.2 and 0.4. A data-driven statistical approach is used to correct the uncorrelated background jet yield. Recoil jet distributions are reported for jet transverse momentum 15 < p T , jet ch < 50 GeV / c and are compared in various intervals of p–Pb event activity, based on charged-particle multiplicity and zero-degree neutral energy in the forward (Pb-going) direction. The semi-inclusive observable is self-normalized and such comparisons do not require the interpretation of p–Pb event activity in terms of collision geometry, in contrast to inclusive jet observables. These measurements provide new constraints on the magnitude of jet quenching in small systems at the LHC. In p–Pb collisions with high event activity, the average medium-induced out-of-cone energy transport for jets with R = 0.4 and 15 < p T , jet ch < 50 GeV / c is measured to be less than 0.4 GeV / c at 90% confidence, which is over an order of magnitude smaller than a similar measurement for central Pb–Pb collisions at <SUB> s NN </SUB> = 2.76 TeV . Comparison is made to theoretical calculations of jet quenching in small systems, and to inclusive jet measurements in p–Pb collisions selected by event activity at the LHC and in d–Au collisions at RHIC.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We present a measurement of azimuthal correlations between inclusive J/<I>ψ</I> and charged hadrons in p–Pb collisions recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The J/<I>ψ</I> are reconstructed at forward (p-going, 2.03 < y < 3.53 ) and backward (Pb-going, − 4.46 < y < − 2.96 ) rapidity via their <SUP> μ + </SUP> <SUP> μ − </SUP> decay channel, while the charged hadrons are reconstructed at mid-rapidity ( | η | < 1.8 ). The correlations are expressed in terms of associated charged-hadron yields per J/<I>ψ</I> trigger. A rapidity gap of at least 1.5 units is required between the trigger J/<I>ψ</I> and the associated charged hadrons. Possible correlations due to collective effects are assessed by subtracting the associated per-trigger yields in the low-multiplicity collisions from those in the high-multiplicity collisions. After the subtraction, we observe a strong indication of remaining symmetric structures at Δ φ ≈ 0 and Δ φ ≈ π , similar to those previously found in two-particle correlations at middle and forward rapidity. The corresponding second-order Fourier coefficient ( <SUB> v 2 </SUB> ) in the transverse momentum interval between 3 and 6 GeV/<I>c</I> is found to be positive with a significance of about 5<I>σ</I>. The obtained results are similar to the J/<I>ψ</I> <SUB> v 2 </SUB> coefficients measured in Pb–Pb collisions at <SUB> s NN </SUB> = 5.02 TeV, suggesting a common mechanism at the origin of the J/<I>ψ</I> <SUB> v 2 </SUB> .</P>
J/ψ Elliptic Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

<P>We report a precise measurement of the J/psi elliptic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The J/psi mesons are reconstructed at midrapidity (|y| < 0.9) in the dielectron decay channel and at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4.0) in the dimuon channel, both down to zero transverse momentum. At forward rapidity, the elliptic flow v(2) of the J/psi is studied as a function of the transverse momentum and centrality. A positive v(2) is observed in the transverse momentum range 2<p(T)<8GeV/c in the three centrality classes studied and confirms with higher statistics our earlier results at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV in semicentral collisions. At midrapidity, the J/psi v(2) is investigated as a function of the transverse momentum in semicentral collisions and found to be in agreement with the measurements at forward rapidity. These results are compared to transport model calculations. The comparison supports the idea that at low p(T) the elliptic flow of the J/psi originates from the thermalization of charm quarks in the deconfined medium but suggests that additional mechanisms might be missing in the models.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>First results on the longitudinal asymmetry and its effect on the pseudorapidity distributions in Pb–Pb collisions at <SUB> s NN </SUB> = 2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider are obtained with the ALICE detector. The longitudinal asymmetry arises because of an unequal number of participating nucleons from the two colliding nuclei, and is estimated for each event by measuring the energy in the forward neutron-Zero-Degree-Calorimeters (ZNs). The effect of the longitudinal asymmetry is measured on the pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles in the regions | η | < 0.9 , 2.8 < η < 5.1 and − 3.7 < η < − 1.7 by taking the ratio of the pseudorapidity distributions from events corresponding to different regions of asymmetry. The coefficients of a polynomial fit to the ratio characterise the effect of the asymmetry. A Monte Carlo simulation using a Glauber model for the colliding nuclei is tuned to reproduce the spectrum in the ZNs and provides a relation between the measurable longitudinal asymmetry and the shift in the rapidity ( <SUB> y 0 </SUB> ) of the participant zone formed by the unequal number of participating nucleons. The dependence of the coefficient of the linear term in the polynomial expansion, <SUB> c 1 </SUB> , on the mean value of <SUB> y 0 </SUB> is investigated.</P>
