In the Airport Railroad, the Yeongjong Bridge has a length of 4,420 m and connects Yeongjong Island with the mainland of Incheon City. The bridge is a two-level structure, consisting of a six-lane road at the upper level and a combination of a road and railroad at the lower level. The environmental conditions for the electric railway come mainly from the salt injury area and a heavy industry zone, and the maintenance cycles are determined differently depending on these conditions. This study analyzed the deterioration characteristics of long rod insulators produced with a movable ceramic bracket and polymer materials in the Yeongjong Bridge section of the Airport Railway operating in the salt injury area according to the material characteristics. Comparison of the corona measurements when the insulators were cleaned at the same time showed that the polymer insulator had a higher insulation performance than the ceramic insulator.

DC traction system generates leakage current because running rails are used in return circuit. And it is very important to estimate the leakage current to the train operation situation. Therefore this paper presents dynamic simulation technique that is very similar to the real operation situation using TPS and PSCAD/EMTDC. For this we model DC traction system included in DC substation, variable feeding circuit model and variable train model. And we extract train location and power using TPS program and use these data for dynamic simulation. Finally we can estimate leakage current to the various operation condition using dynamic simulation.

DC traction system can damage human and other facilities due to the rising of rail potential. Therefore the earth fault detection relay protects system using rail potential induced in train operation and ground fault. However the conventional protection system cannot operate due to the fault resistance and might operate unwanted voltage rising due to the other substation ground fault. So this paper models DC traction system using PSCAD/EMTDC and simulates the rail potential rising. We can estimate the rail potential rising in DC traction system through the various simulation.

This paper present adaptation method of rail potential test to verify DC railway system's performance and safety. For protection of person and utility caused by rail potential rise, international standard to limit rail potential rise is made and rail potential is tested at the time of plan and construction of DC railway system in foreign country. So, we need rail potential test at the opening time and prepare a continuous monitoring technique of rail potential and a limitation method of rail potential rise. For these, we describe cause of rail potential rise, international standard about rail potential, protection principle, an example of calculation and measurement, and adaptation method for performance test.

In this paper, we propose a catenary heating measurement system using small-scaled DC power supply for the configuration of a DC de-icing system and measure the current distribution ratio and heating value of contact wire and messenger wire. As a result, the measurement showed similar temperature increases in comparison with theoretical formulas, and it is believed that relatively accurate predictions will be possible for future melting temperature estimations through theoretical formulas.

Online monitoring system is becoming an essential element of railway traction system for utilized to condition based malignance management and various techniques currently employed in railway traction system. Among the various techniques, it is efficient to detect partial discharge signals by electromagnetic wave detection in order to detect insulation fault of rectifier. Although VHF (Very High Frequency), UHF (Ultra High Frequency) sensors were adopted to detect partial discharge of power facilities, due to characteristics of urban railway, excessive noise occurs from 500 ㎒ to 1.5 ㎓ on UHF bandwidth. In this paper a new measurement system able to monitoring the conditions of power facilities on DC substation in metro was studied and set up. The system uses UHF sensors to measure the partial discharge of the rectifier due to electric faulting and dielectric breakdown. Comparison and estimation for performance of SHF sensor which had devised to detect partial discharge signal of urban railway rectifier has conducted. In order to estimate performance of SHF sensor, we have compared the sensor with existing UHF sensor on sensitivity upon frequency bandwidth generated by pulse generator, and also we have verified performance of the SHF sensor by detection results of partial discharge signal from urban railway rectifier.
