As the delay of the Kyungbu High Speed Railroad, HST should use conventional line through Daegoo to Pusan until the new railroad build. High speed railroad noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. Whenever HST on conventional railroad line is planned or a housing project near an existing railroad is proposed, an estimate of the relevant noise levels is usually required. For this, it is necessary to quantify those parameters that affect the railroad noise. This paper deals with an estimation of high speed railroad noise on conventional line.

This paper sums up the study of the soundproof facilities to be placed on the test track section within the Seoul-Pusan ?H.S.T. project. The objective of this study is to determine optimum design of soundproof including height, length, location, sound absorbing materials for test track (chonan-taejon). This paper shows the model to design the shape and materials of noise barrier for high speed trains(TGV, ICE, etc). Noise prediction is to be conducted by MITHRA. Various parameters affecting the noise propagation outdoors are surveyed and discussed in relation to H.S.T. noise.

To identify the possibility of interlinking the railroads of two Koreas as well as the relevant technical advancement, it's necessary to compare the industrial standards associated with the railroad system, and on a long-run, the study on integration measures shall follow. The priority was given to the question on whether the parts or components as well as the freight car are technically compatible, that is, the connectivity of two different systems.

In line with the accelerating inter-Korean economic cooperation, the contact point between the South and the North will be extended accordingly, but given the separation in many aspects over last 6 decades, many difficulties in communicating with each other resulting from differentiated terminologies will be likely. The study hence was intended to compare and analyze the terms used by two Koreas in preparation for upcoming interconnection of the railroads and increasingly growing cargo volume, thereby better understanding the system and structure of the counterpart and resolving the language barrier between them, if any.
