Sohn, W.M.,Yong, T.S.,Eom, K.S.,Min, D.Y.,Lee, D.,Jung, B.K.,Banouvong, V.,Insisiengmay, B.,Phommasack, B.,Rim, H.J.,Chai, J.Y. Verlag für Recht und Gesellschaft ; Elsevier 2014 Acta tropica Vol.136 No.-
This study confirmed the prevalence of the intestinal fluke Haplorchis taichui (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) among people and fish in Luang Prabang Province, Lao PDR. Fecal specimens were collected from 559 riparian people (229 males and 330 females), residing in 4 Districts (Luang Prabang, Xieng Ngeun, Pak Ou, and Nam Bak) and were examined by the Kato-Katz fecal smear technique. The overall helminth egg positive rate was 64.9%. The positive rate for small trematode eggs (STE), which may include H. taichui and other heterophyids, Opisthorchis viverrini, and lecithodendriids, was 15.2%. For recovery of adult helminths, 10 STE-positive people were treated with 40mg/kg praziquantel and 15mg/kg pyrantel pamoate, and then purged. Mixed infections with 3 Haplorchis species (H. taichui, H. pumilio, and H. yokogawai), a species of cestode (Taenia saginata), and several species of nematodes including Enterobius vermicularis and hookworms were found. The worm load for trematodes was exclusively high for H. taichui with an average of 7691 specimens per infected person, followed by H. yokogawai (8.3 specimens) and H. pumilio (4.1 specimens). Out of 207 freshwater fish (17 species) purchased in a market in Luang Prabang District, 138 (67%) harboured H. taichui metacercariae (metacercarial burden per fish; 520). Lower prevalence of fish and lower metacercarial density were observed for H. yokogawai (52% and 50 per fish, respectively) and H. pumilio (18% and 3 per fish, respectively). STE found in the surveyed population of Luang Prabang Province were verified to be those of intestinal fukes, particularly H. taichui.

The characteristics of interface layer and the effect of mole fraction of inlet gas mixture(B2H6/H2/N2/TiCl4) on the microstructure of Ti(B,N) films were studied by microwave plasma hot filament CVD process. Ti(B,N) films were deposited on a substrate(STD-61) to develop a high performance of resistance wear coating tool. Ti(B,N) films were obtained at a gas pressure of 1 torr, bias voltage of 300 V and substrate temperature of 480℃ in B2H6-H2-N2-TiCl4gas system. It was found that TiN, TiB2, TiB and hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) phases exist in thin layer on the STD-61.

Six low-carbon high-strength bainitic steels containing Cr, Mo, and B were fabricated by controlling finish cooling temperature, and the effect of bainitic microstructure on tensile and Charpy impact properties were investigated. All the specimens were composed primarily of bainitic ferrite, together with small amounts of granular bainite, acicular ferrite, martensite-austenite constituent. These bainitic microstructures were more critically affected by the finish cooling temperature than by the alloying elements. The H-series specimens with a high finish cooling temperature had larger amount of acicular ferrite and smaller amount of granular bainite and bainitic ferrite, compared to the L-series specimens with the low finish cooling temperature at the same chemical composition. The L-series specimens exhibited higher strength and yield ratio, and lower uniform and total elongations than the H-series specimens because the volume fraction of BF was higher in the L-series specimens than in the H-series specimens. On the other hand, the energy transition temperature decreased with increasing the volume fraction of AF having fine effective grain size, while it increased with an increase in the volume fraction of GB having coarse effective grain size. Thus, the energy transition temperature of the H-series specimens with the high finish cooling temperature were slightly lower than that of the L-series specimens with the low finish cooling temperature because the H-series specimens had a larger amount of AF than the L-series specimens.

<P>A reactive plume model (RPM) was developed to comprehensively consider power-plant plume photochemistry with 255 condensed photochemical reactions. The RPM can simulate two main components of power-plant plumes: turbulent dispersion of plumes and compositional changes of plumes via photochemical reactions. In order to evaluate the performance of the RPM developed in the present study, two sets of observational data obtained from the TexAQS II 2006 (Texas Air Quality Study II 2006) campaign were compared with RPM-simulated data. Comparison shows that the RPM produces relatively accurate concentrations for major primary and secondary in-plume species such as NO2, SO2, ozone, and H2SO4. Statistical analyses show good correlation, with correlation coefficients (<I>R</I>) ranging from 0.61 to 0.92, and good agreement with the Index of Agreement (IOA) ranging from 0.76 to 0.95. Following evaluation of the performance of the RPM, a demonstration was also carried out to show the applicability of the RPM. The RPM can calculate NO<I>x</I> photochemical lifetimes inside the two plumes (Monticello and Welsh power plants). Further applicability and possible uses of the RPM are also discussed together with some limitations of the current version of the RPM.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/esthag/2017/esthag.2017.51.issue-3/acs.est.6b03919/production/images/medium/es-2016-03919y_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/es6b03919'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

<P>Poly(d,l-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles with negative surface charge were reversed to positive by cationic surfactant-DDAB before being coated with an anionic polymer, hyaluronic acid, to improve their site-specific intracellular delivery against CD44 receptor overexpressing cancer cells. Incorporating artesunate (ART)-a promising anticancer drug into PLGA/HA nanoparticles, is expected not only to overcome its poor aqueous solubility and stability but also enhance the activities. The obtained particles were characterized by dynamic light scattering, zeta potential measurements, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Cancer cell internalization of the NPs was evaluated by flow cytometry and cytotoxicity of the NPs was tested by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay. PLGA/HA nanoparticles showed greater extent of cellular uptake to SCC-7 and MCF-7 cells, indicating their affinity with CD44 receptor-mediated endocytosis. Almost 60 % of ART was released into the outer media after 48 h. In vitro fluorescence sorting demonstrated that PLGA/HA had highly efficient targeting and accumulation into CD44 receptor overexpression cells. The significant reduction in cell viability as well as greater induction of apoptosis suggested a potential in anticancer therapy of ART loaded PLGA/HA.</P>
