Objectives : Ryodoraku is a physiological function test using electric current, and is closely related to skin sympathetic tone. Pulse analysis is known to reflect cardiovascular reactivity. There has been no report on the correlation between ryodoraku and pulse analysis in respiratory diseases. The present study examined the diagnostic values of ryodoraku and pulse analysis for respiratory disease patients Methods : For this study, we conducted ryodoraku and pulse analysis in 103 people including 79 respiratory disease outpatients who visited the $5^{th}$ Internal Department of the Oriental Medicine Hospital of Kyung Hee University during the period from January 1, 2003 to July 25, 2006, and 24 volunteers who did not have any respiratory symptoms or disease history. The respiratory disease patients were divided into five sub-groups according to their symptom: cough-sputum group, wheezing-dyspnea group ' nasal symptoms group. cold-prone group, and fatigue prone group. We compared the disease groups with the control group in six items as follows : mean ryodoraku, mean H1, mean elastic index, the percentage of those with mean ryodoraku below $40{\mu}A$, the percentage of those with HI beyond the physiological range, and the ratio of left : right of elastic index Results and Conclusions : Ryodoraku and pulse analysis were found to have a high value as quantitative diagnosis tools reflecting individuals' weakness and firmness. The results of this research suggest that ryodoraku and pulse analysis have value as tools for diagnosing respiratory diseases.

염증성 피부질환 개선 기능 소재로서 둥근전복(Haliotis discus) 유래 항균펩타이드 Ab4-7의 항염증 효과

서해안에 서식하는 해양생물인 전복은 항산화 및 항염증 효과가 있으며, 항생제 개발 및 화장품 원료 등 다양한 산업에 활용될 수 있는 잠재력을 가진 자원이다. 본 연구에서 우리는 서해안의 다양한 해양 생물중에서 전복을 선택하였으며, 전복에서 분리한 항균펩타이드(AMP)를 이용하여 항균펩타이드 유도체인 Ab4-7를 규명하고 생리활성을 연구하였다. Ab4-7의 항염증 효능을 확인하기 위해 염증이 유도된 RAW 264.7에 Ab4-7을 처리한 결과, 염증성 사이토카인, TLR4, TNF-α, IL-1β, COX-2, iNOS 등을 억제하고 항산화와 관련된 유전인자인 HO-1의 mRNA 발현을 증가시켰다. Ab4-7의 강력한 항산화 및 항염증 효과를 바탕으로, 염증이 유도된 RAW 264.7 세포에서 Ab4-7이 extrocellular matrix metalloproteinase (ECM) 분해에 관여하여 다양한 염증성 피부질환을 유도하는 유전자인 matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs)를 조절하는 효과를 RT-PCR을 통해 확인하였다. Ab4-7은 강력한 항염증 및 항산화 효과를 가지고 있으며, 항염증 및 항산화 효과를 통한 MMPs 관련 유전인자 조절을 통해 다양한 염증성 피부질환 치료제의 기능성 재료로 활용될 수 있다고 사료된다. Abalone, a marine organism inhabiting the west coast of Korea, has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and is a resource with potential to be used in various industries such as antibiotic development and cosmetic raw materials. In this study, we chose abalone among various marine lives on the west coast. Antibacterial peptide (AMP) was separated from abalone and its derivative Ab4-7 was identified and its physiological activity was studied. The treatment of Ab4-7 in inflammatory RAW 264.7 to check the anti-inflammatory efficacy nhibited inflammatory cytokines, TLR4, TNF-α, IL-1β, COX-2, and iNOS and increased mRNA manifestation of HO-1, genes related to antioxidants. Based on the strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of Ab4-7, the effects of Ab4-7 in the inflammatory RAW 264.7 cells were identified through RT-PCR, which regulates the gene Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMPs) that induces a variety of inflammatory skin diseases by engaging in the decomposition of the extrocellular matrix metalloproteinase (ECM). Taken together, it is concluded that Ab4-7 has a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect and can be used as a functional material for various inflammatory skin disease treatments by controlling the genes associated with matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs).

The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial transformational patterns according to the spectator and the exhibition environment and to examine the role of ‘the middle space’ organically linking the exhibition space with MoA which is a representative example of ‘sequential exhibition space’. The concept of sequential exhibition space in MoA is applied not only to building but also to extended continental concepts including neighborhood. MoA"s exhibition space consists of the library area and the exhibition area. In particular, the spaces of library area perform a complex function as a quasi-exhibition space, and the exhibition spaces have variable spatial transformation through an associated structure of the library area and the educational area. The types of exhibition space those constitute the sequential exhibition space of MoA appear as ‘Room type’, ‘Free plan type’, and ‘Gallery type’. Each exhibition space maintains independence, but it is changed according to the situation of exhibition. The flow is based on the spiral induction around the central void space, but with selective circulation considering the visitors. Therefore, through the transformation of the exhibition area and the division of the flow, the whole museum space appears as the area differentiation.

제주 재래식된장의 생리적 특성

제주재래식된장의 생리적 특성을 측정하기 위하여 제주도내 전통된장업체로부터 된장제품 4종(JTD1-4)을 수거하여, 유기용매로 추출, 분획하여 총 페놀 함량, 항산화활성(DPPH 유리기 소거능, superoxide 유리기 소거능), ACE 및 α-glucosidase 저해능, 항염 및 항암효과를 측정하였다. 에틸아세테이트 분획물에서 총 페놀 함량(201.8~305.4 ㎍/ g)과 DPPH 유리기 소거활성(37.5~59.9%)이 가장 높았다. Superoxide anion radical 소거활성은 부탄올 분획물에서 56.3~85.1%로 가장 높았는데, JTD1(81.7%)과 JTD4(85.1%)의 소거활성은 양성대조구로 사용한 ascorbic acid의 소거활성(82.2%)과 유사하였다. ACE 저해활성은 메탄올 추출물에서 23.6~74.5%로 가장 높았다. α-Glucosidase 저해활성은 디클로로메탄 분획물에서 72.0~80.2%로 양성대조구인 acarbos의 57.4%보다 높았다. RAW 264.7 세포를 대상으로한 NO 생성 저해활성(IC50: 17.3~29.0 ㎍/mL)은 에틸아세테이트 분획물이 가장 높았지만, 세포독성은 모든 분획물에서 관찰되지 않았다. 에틸아세테이트 분획물의 세포증식 저해활성은 정상세포주인 피부섬유아세포(HS-68)에서 JTD1-3은 100 ㎍/mL 이하의 농도에서 나타내지 않았으나, JTD4는 21%의 세포독성을 나타내었다. 대장암 세포주(HT-29)에 대해서는 JTD1과 JTD2는 세포증식이 저해되지 않았으나, JTD3과 JTD4는 50 ㎍/mL 이상에서 증식저해 효과를 나타내었다. 유방암 세포주(MCF-7)는 100 ㎍/mL에서 JTD3은 30.9%, JTD4는 34.7%의 세포증식 저해효과를 보였다. Four Jeju traditional Doenjangs (JTD), a traditional fermented soybean paste, were extracted and fractionated using organic solvents, and their physiological properties were evaluated such as total phenolic contents (TPC), antioxidant capacity (DPPH and superoxide free radical scavenging), inhibitory effect of ACE and α-glucosidase, and anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities. Ethyl acetate fractions had the highest TPC (201.8~305.4 ㎍/g) and DPPH radical scavenging activity (37.5~59.9%). Buthanol fractions had the highest superoxide anion radical scavenging activity (56.3~85.1%), and the activities of JTD1 (81.7%) and JTD4 (85.1%) were almost the same as that of ascorbic acid (82.2%) as the reference material. Inhibitory activities of ACE were 23.6~74.5% in methanol extracts, and those of α-glucosidase were 72.0~80.2% in dichloromethane fractions compared with 57.4% in acarbos as the reference. Inhibitory activities of NO production in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 were the highest as 17.3~29.0 ㎍/mL (IC50) in ethyl acetate fractions, and cell toxicities were not detected in all fractions. Ethyl acetate fractions of JTD1-3 showed no inhibitory activities, but that of JTD4 showed 21% of inhibitory activity of cell growth against human genital skin fibroblast cell line HS-68. Cell growth of human colon cancer cell line HT-29 was not inhibited by ethyl acetate fractions of JTD1 and 2, but was inhibited by those of JTD3 and 4 at more than 50 ㎍/mL. JTD3 and JTD4 showed the growth inhibition of breast adenocarcinoma cell line (MCF-7) by 30.9% and 34.7% at 100 ㎍/mL, respectively.

감귤 과피의 페놀성 화합물 함량과 항산화 활성

감귤 7종을 대상으로 과피를 80% 메탄올로 추출하여 총 페놀과 총플라보노이드 함량을 측정하였고, 유해산소 흡수능력(ORAC) 분석을 통한 free radical 소거능, RAW 264.7 murine macrophage를 이용한 NO 생성 저해능, LPS와 t-BHP 자극에 의한 활성산소 생성 저해 활성을 분석하였다. 총페놀 함량은 영귤, 천혜향, 진귤이 각각 30.6, 30.2, 28.2 mg GAE/g으로 높은 값을 나타내었고, 총플라보노이드 함량은 영귤과 진귤이 각각 30.3와 25.5 mg RE/g으로 높은 값을 나타내었다. ORAC 분석을 통한 free radical 소거능은 영귤이 1076 mM TE/g으로 가장 높은 활성을 나타내었으며, 그 다음이 천혜향(1012), 진귤(984), 한라봉(914) 순이었다. 마우스 대식세포인 RAW 264.7에 의한 NO 생성 저해능 (IC50)은 천혜향이 215.3 μg/mL로 가장 높았으며, 그 다음으로 영귤(259.2), 진귤(328.9) 순이었다. LPS 자극에 의한 활성산소 생성은 한라봉이 16.4%, 진귤이 12.8% 저해하였고, t-BHP 자극에 의한 활성산소 생성은 진귤, 한라봉, 천혜향이 각각 28.7, 26.1, 26.6% 저해하였다. 총페놀과 ORAC 간의 상관계수는 0.884이고 총플라보노이드와 ORAC 간의 상관계수는 0.855로, ORAC에 의한 항산화 활성은 총페놀 및 총 플라보노이드의 함량과 밀접한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 총페놀 및 총플라보노이드 함량과 NO 생성 저해능 간의 상관계수는 각각 0.921과 0.683으로 NO 생성 저해능도 총페놀 및 총플라보노이드 함량과 밀접한 관계가 있었다. The peel from seven types of citrus was extracted with 80% methanol, and their phenolic compound content, oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), inhibitory activities of nitric oxide (NO), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production induced by LPS and t-BHP in LPS-activated RAW 264.7 cells were measured. Total phenolic content was high in Yungkyool, Cheonhyehyang, and Jinkyool (30.6, 30.2, and 28.2 mg GAE/g, respectively), while total flavonoid content was high in Yungkyool and Jinkyool (30.3 and 25.5 mg RE/g, respectively). ORAC was the highest at 1,076 mM TE/g in Yungkyool, followed by Cheonhyehyang (1,012), Jinkyool (984), and Hallabong (914). High inhibitory activity against NO production was shown in Cheonhyehyang, Yungkyool, and Jinkyool with IC50 values of 215.3, 259.2, and 328.9 μg/mL, respectively. LPS-induced ROS production was inhibited by 16.4% and 12.8% in Hallabong and Jinkyool, while t-BHP-induced ROS production was inhibited by 28.7%, 26.1%, and 26.6% in Jinkyool, Hallabong, and Cheonhyehyang, respectively. Correlation coefficients between total phenolic, total flavonoid content, and ORAC were 0.884 and 0.855. Inhibitory activity against NO production showed higher correlation with total phenolic content than total flavonoid content. It was concluded that citrus peels had potent antioxidant activities and could be used as natural antioxidants in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

서울대 미술관에서 나타나는 연속적 전시공간의 특성에 관한 연구

This study intends to analyze the exhibition space of the Seoul National University Art Museum(MoA) base on the sequential space. The purpose of this study is to consider the spatial structure, figures and characteristics of exhibition spaces in MoA. The exhibition spaces in MoA distribute vertically around the central void space that has visual perception, which appears an important factor to combine each exhibition space. And the figures of exhibition spaces are open, and are connected continuously. As a result, exhibition spaces make sequential space. Furthermore the exhibition spaces have complex functions that combine or separate with the scale and feature of the exhibition.

할리우드의 아시아 타자 묘사의 복합화

Although their release dates trace back to the early post-Cold War era, Black Rain (1989) and Mr. Baseball (1992) still serve as noteworthy examples of complicating the traditional dichotomy of “us” and “them.” A traditionally stereotyped Japan still can hardly be missed; nevertheless, the Japanese protagonists are no longer those who work in the shadows of the white heroes in old-fashioned Hollywood films located in Asia. Given that they are all human beings with universal weaknesses, the Japanese demonstrate moral superiority and professional work ethic that enhance a mutual understanding and crucial cooperation with the white protagonists of the two films. While examining the significance of the positive portrayals of the Japanese as a slow and ongoing process of lessening Westerners’ prejudice against East Asians, this essay argues that the traditional dichotomy in Hollywood films between the U.S. and Asia is not so much demolished or deconstructed as readjusted under the newly formed socio-economic circumstances of U.S. hegemony in the late 1980s and the early 1990s.

야구 신화, 미국적 가치, <꿈의 구장>

American baseball has been mythologized as an embodiment of the American Dream since its emergence as a "national game" or "national pastime" in the nineteenth century. The privileged title evinces the American ideological belief that baseball concretizes the traditional national values, integrating pastoral ideal, morality, work ethic, individualism, communal cooperation, democracy, and so forth. The historical facts tell us, however, that the mythology of baseball, based on the belief in the seemingly timeless American values, was a historical construct powered and reinforced by capitalist and commercial intents. To discuss the materialist dimension of the Americans Dream in the national game, the paper examines the process of mythologizing American baseball in association with the industrialization and urbanization of American society that has eventually precipitated the commodification of baseball as competitive business. Given that mythology has been publicly distributed and consumed through fictional methods, the paper also discusses Field of Dreams as a representative example of resuscitating the mythology in the contemporary era. While the film nurtures cultural fantasies of baseball as a force of unifying conflict and healing trauma, its conclusion reaffirms the power of capital as an integral part in the underlying structure of the national mythology. In this way, the paper notes how the mythology of baseball is intertwined with materialistic values, representing traditional mainstream points of view of the capitalist nation.

강의실에서의 코믹스 교육에 대한 단상

This article intends to open discussions about comic books as potential texts for advancing college students’ understanding of Western, particularly American culture and society. As a case study, the article presents a teaching experience of Gene Luen Yang’s American Born Chinese in “Seminar for First Year Students” in the spring of 2012. The choice of the text foregrounds not only the increase of overseas Korean students but also “Korean Korean” students’ lack of experience with a diverse and multicultural environment on campus. The lingual and cultural distinctions among the students pointed out the need to explore the subject of cultural identity, and American Born Chinese seemed the appropriate choice to explore the complicated and difficult topic. The assumption of comics as entertainment for the young has a long history, but the genre has generated significant socio-political and cultural discourse. Since the late twentieth century in particular, selected American comic books, frequently referred to as graphic novels, have engaged more in social critique through complex narratives and aesthetic images. These texts are qualified enough to be used as main textbooks in the courses of cultural studies offered by the department of English in South Korea. The “not-so-funny” topic of American Born Chinese, which is Asian American identity, allowed the students to modify their expectations about the genre and interpret the significance of both visual and literary depictions. The result of this case study cannot define the overall pedagogical significance and effect of comics in South Korean English programs. Nevertheless, the need to enhance the complex literacy of students calls for new academic and pedagogical strategies. For this purpose, comics can serve as an effective text which represents the zeitgeist of our time.
