The objective of the present study is to investigate the load delivery characteristics of a hybrid-renewable energy system with geothermal and solar heat sources for hot water, heating and cooling of a residential house in Korea. The hybrid energy system consists of ground source heat pump of 2 RT for cooling with a 150 m vertical U-bend ground heat exchanger, solar collectors of 4.8 m2 and gas fired backup boiler. The averaged coefficient of performance of geothermal module during cooling and heating seasons are evaluated as about 4.5 and 3.8, respectively.

Recently global regulations on environment pollution and green house gases due to conventional energy consumption have been reinforced. So in the present study feasibility investigation on the solar assisted heating and hot water supply system for apartment houses were carried out by the review of service facility and heat load pattern of it, also operation and design of a small sized experimental simulator was performed.<br/> The experimental results showed that the mean collector efficiency was about 42% at sunny day in the heating season, and discharging efficiency of storage tank was 80~85%. And this hybrid system showed an energy savings of 27 ~ 48% compared to a typical gas boiler system in the case of artificial load pattern of hot water based on measurement data of apartment houses. Through the feasibility study, we found that the hybrid system can be applied to apartment houses for the energy savings and reduction of green house gases.

The simulation investigation on the availability of sewage treatment plant by scenario of failure event and combination has been carried out. This study focuses on availability and criticality induced by failure rate of major equipment. The equipment classification of sewage treatment plant and failure type and event schematic for the evaluation algorithm are designed and the methodologies on simulation are established. The availability in the case of serial connection is calculated as around 50%. In other case with combination and back up system, availability showed around 80%. The criticality, affect availability, is estimated highly in the dehydration and sludge concentration process.
